Linkin Park Blocked From A New No. 1 By An Unlikely Champion
Linkin Park has returned — again – and the band's momentum continues. The Grammy-winning hard rockers are back with a brand new single, and it's become a quick success in the U.K. The new cut, titled 'Up From the Bottom,' launches this week across a number of charts, and in most cases, it manages to reach impressive heights right out of the gate. The track performs especially well on one genre-specific tally, but its notable launch is not limited to that one roster, which speaks to how popular the group is in the country.
'Up From the Bottom' debuts on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, a ranking that Linkin Park has become very familiar with over the years. The track doesn't just start off well, it nearly runs the show. The single opens at No. 2, narrowly missing out on the top spot and what could have been another genre-specific champion for the band.
This time around, it's 'Iris' by the Goo Goo Dolls that keeps the rockers from running the show. That somewhat unlikely winner is a non-mover at No. 1 this frame, holding strong decades after it initially became a global hit, and after what's now become a stunningly-long reign. 'Iris' has now led the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart for 195 weeks – a nearly unheard-of stretch on any ranking.
Beyond the rock tally, 'Up From the Bottom' also enters the top 10 on a pair of other U.K. charts this week. The tune starts at No. 6 on the Official Singles Downloads list and comes in at No. 8 on the Official Singles Sales ranking. These two rosters count purchases only, as they highlight which cuts fans are willing to pay for.
The digital-only tally has now played host to nine Linkin Park top 10s, while the sales-focused list has seen just five enter that highest tier. But neither of those sums comes close to the band's success on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, where 'Up From the Bottom' gives Linkin Park its thirty-fourth top 10 placement.
While 'Up From the Bottom' is an obvious hit in many ways, it doesn't become an immediate smash on every tally right out of the gate. The tune launches at No. 42 on the Official Singles chart, which ranks the most-consumed songs in the U.K. based on a combination of sales and streaming. Somewhat frustratingly, it misses entering the important top 40 region by just two spots. 'Up From the Bottom' also finds space on the Official Streaming roster, where it starts off at No. 91.
'Up From the Bottom' serves as the lead single from the upcoming deluxe re-release of From Zero, which served as Linkin Park's first major project following the loss of frontman Chester Bennington more than half a decade ago. Nine tunes from the standard edition have appeared on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, and three of them climbed into the top 10. 'The Emptiness Machine' spent six weeks at No. 1, while 'Heavy is the Crown' and 'Two Faced' peaked at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.

Sabrina Carpenter fans upset over new album cover: ‘I'm not feeling it'
Sabrina Carpenter has divided opinion among some of her fans after unveiling the artwork for her next album, Man's Best Friend. The Grammy-winning US pop star, 26, announced the follow-up to her 2024 album Short n' Sweet this week. Scheduled for release on 29 August, the album features artwork showing Carpenter on her hands and knees, while an anonymous figure in a suit holds her by her hair. The image has sparked a debate on social media, as some fans argue that it perpetuates misogynist fantasies while others say Carpenter is owning her sexuality as well as poking fun at patriarchal values. 'I understand that Sabrina Carpenter's new album cover is supposed to be a satirical/tongue in cheek way to highlight how poorly women are treated by men in society but the men who are going to see and engage with it are too stupid and porn pilled to extract that nuance from it,' one critic wrote on X/Twitter. She continued: 'And even if they are able to take it at its ironic face value do you really think it's going to inspire them to course correct their misogynistic behaviour long enough to stop masturbating to it? NO!' Several fans and critics seemed to agree, as another said: 'Sabrina Carpenter's new album cover does not give imo… girl in these times, to pose for a photo w a man holding you down in a submissive manner and it being so degrading like you're a dog?! wutttt.? You can be sexy and embody[that] energy and uplift being a woman..!!' 'I've never once thought Sabrina is for 'the male gaze' or whatever and I've always enjoyed her latest aesthetic and how comfortable she is in her sexuality but there's something about that album cover… I'm not feeling it,' one fan said. Another X user countered with their take: 'I'm seeing a lot of discourse about Sabrina Carpenter's new album cover… for those of you who may lack critical thinking skills, the cover is clearly satirical with a deeper meaning, portraying how the public views her, believing she is just for the male gaze.' Others pointed out that Carpenter has a history of making provocative or NSFW jokes, and incorporating sexual innuendos into her songwriting. 'The Sabrina Carpenter album cover is satire, she is portraying how society/men view her and not how she views herself and her relationships with men you people would look up if you were outside and someone told you gullible was written on the ceiling,' one fan agreed. Meanwhile, some fans jokingly urged others not to buy tickets to Carpenter's next tour: 'If you have tickets you need to get rid of, my dms are open for ex-Carpenters in need.' More fans took the comments section of Carpenter's Instagram post, where she shared the artwork, to tell her what they thought of it. 'Love Sabrina, but this picture... why is the man in there like that? It's not a very empowering image for women,' one person said. 'Is this a humiliation ritual?' another fan asked. 'WTH is this cover?' Others rushed to support the 'Please Please Please' singer, with British star Rachel Chinouriri, who recently supported Carpenter on tour, writing 'OH YOU'RE WORKING LATE' in reference to her hit song 'Espresso'. Man's Best Friend is being supported so far by Carpenter's new single, 'Manchild', which was written with Amy Allen and pop producer and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff. Carpenter recently headlined Primavera Sound Barcelona festival and will headline British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park, London, next month.

Pink Floyd's Classic Albums Return To The Charts Together
Pink Floyd charts multiple albums this week in the U.K., with At Pompeii returning to No. 1 and The ... More Dark Side of the Moon back in the top 10. (MANDATORY CREDIT Koh Hasebe/) Pink Floyd live at Hakone Aphrodite, Kanagawa, August 6, 1971. (Photo by Koh Hasebe/) Quite a few legendary rock bands manage to remain on the charts in Western markets thanks to one compilation or a generation-defining successful album, but the number of acts able to do so with more than one collection at a time, on any consistent basis, is much smaller. Pink Floyd is included in that elite group. The pioneering rock outfit frequently places multiple releases on the rankings in the United Kingdom at the same time, and this frame is no exception to that trend. Several of the band's titles return in what has turned out to be a very busy moment for Pink Floyd in the country where the musicians who make up the act got their start. Two Pink Floyd classics rock their way onto one ranking apiece in the U.K. The Wall reenters the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart at No. 34, which is its sole placement this week. Wish You Were Here already appears on that tally, and this frame, it shoots up more than 10 spaces, jumping from No. 30 to No. 17. At the same time, it also reappears on the Official Albums Download chart, returning at No. 77. As is often the case, The Dark Side of the Moon remains Pink Floyd's most successful project in the U.K. — at least in terms of the number of rankings it can be found on. This frame, the classic collection rises on three tallies, even managing to reenter the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart's top 10, as it surges to No. 9. The only list where it slips slightly is the Official Albums Download chart — which is, interestingly, where Wish You Were Here reappears. Pink Floyd's most recent release, At Pompeii - MCMLXXII, is still doing very well a month into its run on the U.K. charts. The set gains ground on three tallies, returning to the top 20 on two of them and climbing back to the summit on the Official Rock & Metal Albums roster for another turn in the spotlight. Last week, the live effort sat in third place on the rock-only tally, but now it rockets back to the throne, earning its second stint at No. 1 in just the five frames it has spent somewhere on the genre-specific roster.

Diddy trial updates: Sean Combs' ex Jane testifies on alleged sexual exploitation
Diddy trial updates: Sean Combs' ex Jane testifies on alleged sexual exploitation Show Caption Hide Caption Witness says she resented Diddy over hotel nights, sex with escorts Witness Jane testified in Sean "Diddy" Combs' sex trafficking trial she resented him over hotel nights that involved sex with escorts. This story contains graphic descriptions that some readers may find disturbing. Sean "Diddy" Combs' ex-girlfriend "Jane," who has peeled back the curtain on their allegedly volatile sexual relationship, is set to conclude her time on the stand in the high-profile criminal trial. The woman, who is testifying under a pseudonym in the sweeping federal sex-crimes case, returned to Manhattan court on June 12 to wrap up cross-examination. Attorneys for Combs have attempted to elicit testimony that indicates she freely participated in, and even encouraged, the sexual performances she took part in during her on-and-off romance with Combs. During cross-examination on June 11, Jane was asked to explain messages from the Grammy-winning rapper that appeared to give his then-girlfriend options when it came to their "hotel nights," or sexual encounters Combs allegedly orchestrated between Jane and various sex workers. "I was just adapting to my circumstances and my environment," and adjusting to "the pressures of my lover," Jane told the court, responding to messages where she'd agreed to sex acts. "I was going along with something I really didn't feel I could say no to." The online content creator, who previously said she still loves Combs to this day, admitted she also harbors negative feelings: "I resent him for all of it," she told Combs' attorney Teny Geragos. Combs, 55, was arrested in September and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty. Using RICO law, which is typically aimed at targeting multi-person criminal organizations, prosecutors allege that Combs coerced victims, some of whom they say were sex workers, through intimidation and narcotics to participate in "freak offs" — sometimes dayslong sex performances that federal prosecutors allege they have video of.
