Oman Club target top position in 2025–26 Oman League
MUSCAT: Oman Club have announced the completion of their preparations for the 2025–2026 Omantel League season during a press conference held at the club's headquarters in Al Khuwair, attended by the Board of Directors, technical and administrative staff. The conference reflected a positive atmosphere and clear ambitions, as the club aims to deliver a season befitting its rich history and the progress it has made in recent years. Jihad bin Abdullah al Sheikh, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors, confirmed that the team's preparations are progressing positively, noting that the players began assembling at the start of July. New players have been carefully selected to strengthen the squad, in consultation with the club's football committee. He explained that the club has retained the team's core by renewing the contracts of most players, while also working to address gaps identified in last season's line-up. He added that the squad now consists of 26 players, including young talents from the Olympic team alongside experienced players, with the aim of nurturing youth and providing them with the necessary experience for upcoming seasons. He also indicated the possibility of adding more players in the coming days, pending the technical staff's evaluation and approval. Al Sheikh expressed optimism for a strong season, stressing the club's respect for all league competitors, such as Seeb, Al Nahda, Al Shabab and Dhofar. He affirmed that Oman Club will be a strong contender against these teams. The team recently held a 10-day closed domestic training camp, which included morning and evening sessions to boost players' physical and technical readiness ahead of the league's kickoff. HIGH TECHNICAL AMBITIONS For his part, Idris al Mourabti, head coach of the first team, expressed his happiness to return to leading the team, confirming the club's ambition to maintain the strong performance shown in recent seasons. 'Last season we finished the league in third place, and this places a great responsibility on us to remain in the top positions and compete strongly this season,' he said. Al Mourabti praised the players' discipline and cooperation with the technical staff during the preparation period, affirming that the coaching team is working to develop the players' technical, skill, and mental aspects. He expressed strong confidence in their ability to deliver an outstanding season that will compel other teams to take Oman Club seriously. Meanwhile, team captain Mohamed al Ashri confirmed that this season's preparations build on the past two seasons, during which the team was a strong contender. 'Our ambition this season is even greater, and we thank the management for appointing coach Idris al Mourabti, who is a great technical asset to the team. We aim for this season to be a fruitful one after achieving third place last season,' he said. Al Ashri stressed that the team will enter the league with the ambition to compete for the title, despite the strength of the competition. He acknowledged the pressure, as is the case with all clubs, but emphasised that the team is determined to achieve positive results, starting with their opening match against Dhofar, which they view as a final before the league's break. Oman U-19 handball team gears up for Asian Youth Games in Bahrain
MUSCAT, July 31 The Oman U-19 national handball team will kick off its initial phase of preparations for the upcoming third Asian Youth Games on Saturday with a one-full day training camp scheduled to take place at the indoor hall of Oman Club. The multi-sport event is set to be hosted by Bahrain from October 22 to 31, and will see the participation of 45 countries across 24 sports, including handball which will begin on October 19, prior to the official opening ceremony. Oman team's last appearance in the Asian Men's Youth Handball Championship was in July 2024 in Jordan, which served as a key developmental experience for many of the current players. This first training session for the team will aim to assess the current squad of 32 players, allowing the technical team led by national head coach Yahya al Mashari and his assistant Hassan al Mamari to evaluate the players' technical and physical capabilities as well as their discipline and responsiveness to coaching instructions. Based on these assessments, the coaching staff will shortlist the best talents who will advance to the intensive preparation phase in the coming weeks leading to the continental event. The Oman Handball Association (OHA) is committed to supporting national teams at all levels and continue development through regional and continental participation. As part of its preparation plan, the team will undergo both domestic and international training camps and is expected to play several friendly matches in the coming days to accustom players to competitive match conditions. The OHA board directors recently announced appointment of Yahya al Mashari as head coach of Oman Under-19 handball team. Hassan al Maamari is his assistant while Ahmed al Jassasi is the team manager. Al Khabourah stun Oman Club; Bahla and Saham shine
MUSCAT, APRIL 23 Al Khabourah clinched an exciting 3-2 win over Oman Club in the round 19 of Omantel League at the Seeb Sports Stadium on Tuesday. The match began with an aggressive approach from Oman Club, aiming for an early goal. However, the game quickly turned into an even contest between both sides. Al Khabourah's best chance in the first half came in the 18th minute when Ahmed al Riyami went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, only to be denied by a brilliant save. This was followed by a dangerous header from captain Rashid al Hosani that went over the bar. On the other end, Mahmood al Hassani missed a clear chance for Oman Club in the 38th minute. Al Khabourah eventually opened the scoring in the 41st minute through Ahmed al Riyami, who capitalised on a defensive error. In the second half, Oman Club quickly got back into the game with an equaliser in the 51st minute, scored by Azan al Tamimi, who followed up a rebound off the goalkeeper. Mohammed Lamine Dia restored Al Khabourah's lead in the 67th minute. However, Daniel Etor brought Oman Club level again in the 78th minute with a well-taken free kick by Mohammed al Maashari. In the dying minutes, substitute Noah al Araimi sealed the win for Al Khabourah, scoring from a defensive scramble inside the box. The referee added five minutes of stoppage time, but no further goals were scored, and the match ended 3-2 in favour of Al Khabourah. With this victory, Al Khabourah raised their tally to 25 points and climbed to fifth place in the standings, while Oman Club remained at 35 points in third place, suffering a significant blow in the title race. SAHAM HOLD AL NAHDA Saham started strongly and opened the scoring in the ninth minute through their Nigerian professional Adeniji Babatunde. Al Nahda responded with an equaliser by Harib al Saadi in the 36th minute, ending the first half at 1-1. In the second half, Al Hajj Malik gave Al Nahda the lead in the 49th minute, but Saham fought back and equalised through Bassam al Saadi in the 78th minute, with both teams sharing the spoils. With this result, Al Nahda moved to 40 points in second place, missing a chance to close the gap on league leaders Seeb. Meanwhile, Saham reached 22 points and sit in seventh place. BAHLA EDGE AL RUSTAQ Bahla secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Al Rustaq at the Al Rustaq Sports Complex. The lone goal came from Bahla's Loke Vimke. With this win, Bahla moved up to 22 points, escaping the relegation zone and climbing to ninth place. Al Rustaq, on the other hand, remained at 20 points and fell back into the danger zone, sharing the same points total with Ibri but holding 10th place on goal difference.

Sur revive hopes, Sohar and Bahla draw blank
MUSCAT, APRIL 6 Sur Club clinched a 1-0 victory over hosts Oman Club in a match held on Saturday evening at Seeb Sports Stadium, marking the opening of Round 17 of the Oman Professional League (OPL). The first half saw a slight advantage for Oman Club, who pushed to score through the movements of Mohammed al Maashari, Ahmed al Siyabi, and their foreign player Aitor. However, Sur's solid defence and goalkeeper Salem al Dawoodi's brilliance kept the score level, and the half ended goalless. In the second half, Sur's coach, Said al Farsi, made attacking substitutions, which paid off in the 62nd minute when substitute Mohammed al Muhaijri scored the winning goal. He capitalised on a cross from the left flank and slotted it past goalkeeper Abdulaziz al Hasani. Oman Club's coach, Mahdi Laouamen, attempted to equalise by introducing several attacking options, most notably Qasim Said and Traoré, but Sur's defence held firm until the final whistle, securing all three points. With this win, Sur Club raised their tally to 13 points but remained at the bottom of the table, while Oman Club stayed at 29 points in third place. - Sohar and Bahla Settle for Goalless Draw in Tactical Battle - Sohar and Bahla played out a goalless draw on Saturday evening at Sohar Sports Complex. The match was of average technical level, with both teams sharing possession in the first half, relying heavily on long balls and counterattacks. Sohar had two notable chances to score the first from a free kick by Mohsin Jawhar, and the second from a cross by Abdullah Saif, which Bahla goalkeeper Salah al Hanadhli saved brilliantly. In the second half, both teams maintained a similar pace, making several substitutions to boost energy on the field. Bahla came close to scoring in the 80th minute after sustained pressure, but Sohar goalkeeper Faiz al Rushaidi stood firm to keep a clean sheet. In the dying minutes, Sohar thought they had scored through Abdullah Saif, but the goal was ruled out for offside. With the draw, Sohar increased their tally to 17 points, placing them 11th (second-to-last), while Bahla reached 19 points to occupy seventh place in the league standings.

Oman dominate Ahli Sidab to claim MoCSY shield
MUSCAT, MARCH 10 Oman Club were crowned champion of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Handball (MoCSY) Shield after a well-deserved 33-22 victory over Ahli Sidab in the final match held on Sunday evening at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The event took place under the auspices of Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Education and President of the Oman School Sports Association. With this triumph, Oman Club secured the domestic treble for the season, adding the Shield title to their Oman League and Super Cup victories. Meanwhile, Seeb Club claimed third place after an exciting 27-26 win over Muscat Club. The final match began at a fast pace, with Oman Club displaying high energy and taking advantage of their strong attacking lineup. Ahli Sidab attempted to impose their style, but Oman's defensive duo, led by Nasr al Tamimi and Mohammed al Dhaghishi, effectively closed spaces, thwarting the attacking efforts of Mohannad al Zarafi and Abdulhakim al Siyabi. Oman Club's first goal came through Tahir al Hadidi, who capitalised on a fast break after intercepting a misplaced pass from Ahli Sidab. Shortly after, Mohammed EIhab doubled the lead with a powerful shot from outside the area, leaving goalkeeper Huzaifa al Siyabi helpless. Ahli Sidab attempted to narrow the gap through Mohannad al Zarafi, but Oman's goalkeeper Munir al Balushi pulled off a brilliant save, launching a quick counterattack that ended with Asaad al Hassani scoring a third goal. Before halftime, Oman Club exploited Ahli Sidab's defensive lapses, scoring four more goals, while Ahli Sidab managed just two. The first half ended with Oman leading 20-7. Oman Club resumed the second half with the same offensive intensity, but Ahli Sidab had an early surprise, as goalkeeper Huzaifa al Siyabi managed to score after noticing Oman's goalkeeper out of position. However, Tahir al Hadidi quickly responded, scoring his seventh goal to widen the gap to 21-8. Ahli Sidab tried to reduce the deficit but rushed attacks and the continued brilliance of goalkeeper Munir al Balushi kept them at bay. As the match progressed, Oman's superior physical fitness became evident, allowing them to capitalise on fast breaks. Mohammed Ihab and Salah al Naseri scored back-to-back goals, extending the lead to 24-10. Despite efforts from Mohannad al Zarafi and Abdulhakim al Siyabi to mount a comeback, Oman remained clinical in attack. Mohammed al Dhaghishi and Hamad al Dhaghishi added more goals, pushing the score to 27-12 by the 45th minute. In the final moments, both teams exchanged attacks, with Ahli Sidab scoring ten goals in an attempt to narrow the margin, while Oman Club added six more.
