Al Khabourah stun Oman Club; Bahla and Saham shine
MUSCAT, APRIL 23 Al Khabourah clinched an exciting 3-2 win over Oman Club in the round 19 of Omantel League at the Seeb Sports Stadium on Tuesday. The match began with an aggressive approach from Oman Club, aiming for an early goal. However, the game quickly turned into an even contest between both sides. Al Khabourah's best chance in the first half came in the 18th minute when Ahmed al Riyami went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, only to be denied by a brilliant save. This was followed by a dangerous header from captain Rashid al Hosani that went over the bar. On the other end, Mahmood al Hassani missed a clear chance for Oman Club in the 38th minute. Al Khabourah eventually opened the scoring in the 41st minute through Ahmed al Riyami, who capitalised on a defensive error. In the second half, Oman Club quickly got back into the game with an equaliser in the 51st minute, scored by Azan al Tamimi, who followed up a rebound off the goalkeeper. Mohammed Lamine Dia restored Al Khabourah's lead in the 67th minute. However, Daniel Etor brought Oman Club level again in the 78th minute with a well-taken free kick by Mohammed al Maashari. In the dying minutes, substitute Noah al Araimi sealed the win for Al Khabourah, scoring from a defensive scramble inside the box. The referee added five minutes of stoppage time, but no further goals were scored, and the match ended 3-2 in favour of Al Khabourah. With this victory, Al Khabourah raised their tally to 25 points and climbed to fifth place in the standings, while Oman Club remained at 35 points in third place, suffering a significant blow in the title race. SAHAM HOLD AL NAHDA Saham started strongly and opened the scoring in the ninth minute through their Nigerian professional Adeniji Babatunde. Al Nahda responded with an equaliser by Harib al Saadi in the 36th minute, ending the first half at 1-1. In the second half, Al Hajj Malik gave Al Nahda the lead in the 49th minute, but Saham fought back and equalised through Bassam al Saadi in the 78th minute, with both teams sharing the spoils. With this result, Al Nahda moved to 40 points in second place, missing a chance to close the gap on league leaders Seeb. Meanwhile, Saham reached 22 points and sit in seventh place. BAHLA EDGE AL RUSTAQ Bahla secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Al Rustaq at the Al Rustaq Sports Complex. The lone goal came from Bahla's Loke Vimke. With this win, Bahla moved up to 22 points, escaping the relegation zone and climbing to ninth place. Al Rustaq, on the other hand, remained at 20 points and fell back into the danger zone, sharing the same points total with Ibri but holding 10th place on goal difference.

Sur revive hopes, Sohar and Bahla draw blank
MUSCAT, APRIL 6 Sur Club clinched a 1-0 victory over hosts Oman Club in a match held on Saturday evening at Seeb Sports Stadium, marking the opening of Round 17 of the Oman Professional League (OPL). The first half saw a slight advantage for Oman Club, who pushed to score through the movements of Mohammed al Maashari, Ahmed al Siyabi, and their foreign player Aitor. However, Sur's solid defence and goalkeeper Salem al Dawoodi's brilliance kept the score level, and the half ended goalless. In the second half, Sur's coach, Said al Farsi, made attacking substitutions, which paid off in the 62nd minute when substitute Mohammed al Muhaijri scored the winning goal. He capitalised on a cross from the left flank and slotted it past goalkeeper Abdulaziz al Hasani. Oman Club's coach, Mahdi Laouamen, attempted to equalise by introducing several attacking options, most notably Qasim Said and Traoré, but Sur's defence held firm until the final whistle, securing all three points. Oman dominate Ahli Sidab to claim MoCSY shield
MUSCAT, MARCH 10 Oman Club were crowned champion of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Handball (MoCSY) Shield after a well-deserved 33-22 victory over Ahli Sidab in the final match held on Sunday evening at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The event took place under the auspices of Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Education and President of the Oman School Sports Association. With this triumph, Oman Club secured the domestic treble for the season, adding the Shield title to their Oman League and Super Cup victories. Meanwhile, Seeb Club claimed third place after an exciting 27-26 win over Muscat Club. The final match began at a fast pace, with Oman Club displaying high energy and taking advantage of their strong attacking lineup. Ahli Sidab attempted to impose their style, but Oman's defensive duo, led by Nasr al Tamimi and Mohammed al Dhaghishi, effectively closed spaces, thwarting the attacking efforts of Mohannad al Zarafi and Abdulhakim al Siyabi. Oman Club's first goal came through Tahir al Hadidi, who capitalised on a fast break after intercepting a misplaced pass from Ahli Sidab. Oman Club crowned OHL champions
MUSCAT: Oman Club continued their dominance in the Oman Handball League (OHL), securing their fourth consecutive title after a well-deserved 23-16 victory over Ahli Sidab in the final match. The game was held at the main hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher under the auspices of Dr Amer al Matani, CEO of the Development Institution at Oman LNG. The match kicked off with high intensity, as Ahli Sidab's Kuwaiti professional Mahdi al Haddad nearly opened the scoring. However, Oman Club struck first through Sameeh al Azzani in the first minute. Algerian professional Mohamed Ihab doubled Oman's lead with a successful breakthrough of the opponent's defence. Ahli Sidab responded quickly, with Azan al Maashari reducing the deficit by scoring his team's first goal. Muhannad al Zarafi later equalised from a penalty in the sixth minute. The back-and-forth action continued as Mahmoud al Jabri put Ahli Sidab ahead, but Sameeh al Azzani immediately restored parity for Oman. Seeb players pose with their bronze medals. The fierce competition persisted in the final minutes of the first half. Ahli Sidab added another point, while Oman responded with two, reducing the deficit to just one goal at half-time, with Ahli Sidab leading 10-9. The Oman Club captain receives the league shield. SECOND-HALF COMEBACK Oman Club entered the second half with renewed determination. Mohammed Ihab quickly equalised before Hamad al Dhughaishi scored on a counter-attack to give Oman an 11-10 lead. Ahli Sidab attempted to regain control, but goalkeeper Munir al Balushi's solid performance denied them. Mahmoud al Wahaibi extended Oman's lead in the seventh minute, but Muhannad al Zarafi responded for Ahli Sidab in the ninth minute, bringing the score to 12-11. Oman were awarded a penalty, but Hudhaifa al Siyabi made a crucial save. However, Mohammed Ihab swiftly made up for the missed opportunity with two successive goals, increasing Oman's lead to 14-11 by the 13th minute. Oman Club were crowned league champions receiving the championship trophy and gold medals. Ahli Sidab finished as runners-up, earning silver medals, while Seeb secured third place and the bronze medals.

Oman Club in must-win match against Kuwait SC
MUSCAT: Oman Club will chase a semifinal spot in the 41st Gulf Club Handball Championship as they will take on Kuwait SC in a must win match on Wednesday. The high-stake encounter is set to begin at 6 pm at the indoor hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. In the same Group B, toppers Qatar's Al Arabi will face Dibba Al Huson in their final group-stage match at 4 pm at the same venue. Oman's Asad al Hasani and his teammates will work hard to secure slot in the semis of the Gulf event as they are hosting the event and getting support from their fans. Oman Club managed to earn two points from one win against Dibba Al Huson by 29-26 and they lost against Qatar's Al Arabi by 30-20 on Monday night. Mohammed bin Said al Azzan, Oman Club's assistant coach, said that the team is fully prepared to give their best against Kuwait SC. "Our goal is to perform much better in this game than in the previous two. On the other hand, Kuwait SC will aim to boost their last 34-22 victory over Dibba Al Huson. A win against Oman Club would secure their place in the next stage. "Oman Club is a strong rival and well balanced team with top players including the Bahraini professional player. We must use our positive momentum and learn from our mistakes in the loss to Al Arabi," coach Haitham al Rashidi said. Qatar's Al Arabi already secured a semifinal spot after consecutive victories over Dibba Al Huson and Oman Club. They will now seek a third straight win to confirm their dominance in Group B and build momentum for the semifinals.
