Fantasy Football Rankings 2025: Justin Boone's Top Running Backs

Justin Boone won the FantasyPros Most Accurate Expert Award in 2019 and has eight top-10 finishes in the competition. He now brings his rankings acumen to the Yahoo Fantasy audience after recently joining the team as an analyst. He will consistently be refining his draft rankings during training camps, the preseason and leading up to the season. When news breaks, rankings updates will be reflected here, so bookmark this page and get ready for your drafts! And be sure to follow the links below to see his latest redraft rankings at every position. Latest RB Updates Omarion Hampton was always a top-20 fantasy back in my redraft rankings, but he's moved up into low-end RB1 territory now that Najee Harris is missing time due to an eye injury. Harris has been at training camp in street clothes, sporting a hoodie and sunglasses to protect the eye and perhaps to hide it from any onlookers. The longer he sits out, the more time Hampton has to impress coaches and distance himself from the veteran — and that's exactly what he's doing, according to everyone in and around the team. There's a reason why the Chargers used a first-rounder pick on Hampton and fantasy managers should continue investing, even if it requires a third-round pick to draft him now. There was always something strange about the way the Texans discussed Joe Mixon's recovery throughout the offseason. A clear timeline was never provided and the signing of Nick Chubb added doubt to the entire situation. Now we know Mixon will miss multiple weeks of training camp with a foot injury and the team is 'hoping' he'll be ready for Week 1, according to Jordan Schultz. Even after a surprisingly strong performance for Houston last season, it's going to be very difficult to draft Mixon with any confidence over the next month. For the time being, I've dropped Mixon down into the RB3 range, while moving Chubb and rookie Woody Marks up as intriguing late-round selections. The Jaguars' backfield seems to be a completely open competition between Travis Etienne Jr., Tank Bigsby and Bhayshul Tuten. It's no surprise to see the veterans getting more work at the start of camp, but Bigsby earning the bulk of the carries in the early going is worth noting. New Jags coach Liam Coen showed us last year in Tampa that he's willing to let the best man win the job, when he promoted a Day 3 rookie in Bucky Irving into the starting role, so anyone could emerge in Jacksonville this season. While the uncertainty can be frustrating, I still find myself taking chances on Tuten and Bigsby at their very late ADPs. Hype train for Chargers' rookie running back nicknamed 'The Rocket' may already be derailed

The Los Angeles Chargers are already in the thick of training camp, with having to open the preseason next Thursday night in the annual Hall of Fame Game. This offseason, Raheim Sanders was one of the most exciting names the team signed in the undrafted free-agent process. The hype train was barrelling down the tracks with some predictions even suggesting the team could favor Sanders over Najee Harris. Wow. With six practices already in the books, Sanders has done next to nothing as he is dealing with an injury. There are only 11 training camp practices left and four preseason games, so time is not on his side. It is difficult for rookies to miss any time in training camp because each rep they get is so vital. It is even worse for undrafted players who aren't guaranteed much besides an invite to camp. Draft picks were brought to the roster with a valuable pick and for that reason alone, usually make the team. For undrafted players, the team invested nothing (aside from a small contract) for them to be there. MORE:Mike Williams' sudden retirement proves old adage correct This means that Sanders is already firmly behind the 8-ball this summer. And that's a shame, because a huge opportunity exists in the backfield. Omarion Hampton and Harris are going to be the top two backs, but it's anyone's guess as to what will happen beyond that, as it's hard to tell how the team really feels about last year's sixth-round pick, Kimani Vidal. It looks as though Sanders is going to miss the next several practices, at the least, and likely won't suit up for next Thursday's game against the Detroit Lions. Time is ticking and it's not on Sanders' side. Chargers rookie Omarion Hampton primed for RB1 duties amid Najee Harris' absence

The Los Angeles Chargers are entering training camp with a shift in their backfield dynamics, as rookie Omarion Hampton steps into the lead running back role while free-agent signing Najee Harris recovers from an injury. With Harris placed on the Non-Football Injury List due to an eye injury suffered in a July 4 fireworks mishap, Hampton, the Chargers' 2025 first-round pick, is getting valuable first-team reps and making a strong case as RB1 in the early stages of camp. On Sunday, Chargers editorial director Eric Smith noted in his column that Omarion Hampton is currently operating as the team's RB1. "Omarion Hampton figures to play a key role in the Chargers offense this season," Smith wrote. "But the Bolts' 2025 first-round pick has been thrust into the top running back spot with Najee Harris on the Non-Football Injury List with an eye injury." While Harris' return timeline remains uncertain, the team is getting a closer look at what it has in Hampton, a 6-foot, 220-pound back with a powerful frame and high-end upside. Harbaugh said the real evaluation will start once physicality enters training camp: "He's been attacking it, hitting it hard," Harbaugh said. "Still got some days before we're in pads but I think he's going to be even better in pads. Looked good without them. He's well trained and ready to roll." Najee Harris, one of the team's key offseason signings, has yet to participate in practices but is present and engaged in meetings.
