Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra tipped for this long-overdue charging upgrade — what we know

News about the Samsung Galaxy S26 is starting to pick up steam now that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 have gone on sale. We've already heard rumors that the upcoming phone could also, finally, push charging speeds past 45W — and leaked code from One UI 8.5 seemingly confirms this. The code was spotted by X user @erenylmaz075, who shared a screenshot of what's allegedly code from a leaked version of One UI 8.5. Presumably such fast speeds will be exclusive to the Galaxy S26 Ultra, rather than the Galaxy S26 and S26 Edge. This isn't the first time we've heard this rumor either. Ice Universe first reported that the S26 Ultra would exceed 45W wired charging, later adding that the figure seems to have risen to 60W. This upgrade is certainly long overdue. The Ultra models have been limited to 45W for years, while plenty of rival phones race towards triple-digit charging speeds. Plus, with a new upper limit, it means Samsung could offer faster charging on the standard Galaxy S26 without stealing the Ultra's thunder. As much as we complain about 45W charging overstaying its welcome, the 25W charging limit has been around for a lot longer — and it's about time that changed. @erenylmaz075 also claims that Samsung will be renaming the Galaxy S26 as the "Galaxy S26 Pro." This information comes from the GSMA registration database, with the model number SM-S942U1 seemingly changing its name from Galaxy S26 to Galaxy S26 Pro It's speculated that this is to try and attract new users by tweaking the name. Which isn't a particularly logical strategy, considering you need a base level S26 for anything to be considered "Pro," but it wouldn't be the first time a phone company has released a Pro phone without anything cheaper. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Yes, I'm talking about you, the OnePlus 10 Pro. And the fact that OnePlus abandoned this strategy with future releases, starting with the OnePlus 11, suggests the company realized that decision wasn't particularly smart. Then again Apple is rumored to be releasing the iPhone 18 six months after the iPhone 18 Pro. So it's not outside the possibility that Samsung might forgo the "regular" Galaxy S26 as well. Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra to ship with Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and One UI 8.5

Leaked firmware files reveal that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will likely launch with the Snapdragon 8 Elite's successor next year and will ship with One UI 8.5 based on Android 16 out of the box. This appears to be in line with a recent report by Ice Universe revealing a shift in Samsung's software update strategy that gives the foldables the latest One UI iteration and polishing it for the Galaxy S series. The firmware file has been found on Samsung's server, which means the tech giant is already working on developing One UI 8.5 for its future S26 lineup. The firmware reads PMK8850 serial number, which likely refers to Qualcomm's next-generation flagship chipset. Given that the S25 Ultra ships with Snapdragon 8 Elite, also referred to as 8750 in its own firmware, it's probably safe to assume that the S26 Ultra will continue to use Qualcomm's chip. That doesn't mean all three Galaxy S phones will be powered by the Snapdragon, though. The S26+ and the vanilla S26 will likely feature the company's upcoming Exynos 2600 SoC, which promises solid CPU and GPU performance. Also, another recent report claims that Samsung has found a way to keep the Exynos 2600 cooler. Source 1 | Source 2

This long-requested Galaxy upgrade might finally arrive on the S26 Ultra

C. Scott Brown / Android Authority TL;DR A new firmware leak suggests the Galaxy S26 Ultra will support 60W wired charging. That's a major jump from the 45W limit on previous Ultra models, though still slower than some rivals. The phone is expected to keep its 5,000mAh battery and use the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset. Samsung might not be boosting battery capacity on its next high-end flagship, but it looks like faster charging is finally on the cards for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Tipter Erencan Yılmaz on X (via SamMobile) spotted a reference to the device's charging speed in a new One UI 8.5 firmware leak. The two strings of code, as shown below, strongly suggest support for 60W wired charging — a notable upgrade from the 45W cap on previous Ultra models. This lines up with a previous claim from Ice Universe that Samsung would increase charging speeds on the S26 Ultra to 60W. Others, like Yogesh Brar and Chunvn8888, had speculated it could go as high as 65W, though today's firmware suggests the more conservative figure is correct. While 60W still trails the 80W or even 120W charging offered by some rivals, it would represent Samsung's most significant charging speed bump in years, and could help bring full charge times down from just under an hour to something closer to 40 minutes. The phone is still expected to use a 5,000mAh battery. As for the rest of the S26 Ultra, we've already seen signs that it will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset and could be part of a renamed lineup alongside a Galaxy S26 Pro and S26 Edge. But faster charging may become one of the most noticeable upgrades for many users, especially those tired of seeing cheaper phones charge twice as fast. Follow
