🎥 Remembering the iconic Johan Cruyff on the anniversary of his death 🧡

Has any one person had a greater impact on football than Johan Cruyff? World class player. World class manager. Innovator. Genius. Nine years on from his untimely death, the Netherlands, Barcelona and Ajax remember their favourite son. Cruyff was the personification of "Total Football", helping Ajax to three European Cups in a row, and inspiring the Netherlands to the 1974 World Cup final. Not even a striker, he is the top scorer for the Amsterdam giants with 257 goals, and was also the first player to ever win three Ballon d'Or awards in a row. ♾️ @JohanCruyff forever 🧡#NothingLikeOranje — OnsOranje (@OnsOranje) March 24, 2025 At Barcelona, he transformed the club, blending Total Football and Catalan spirit to create the style that has become synonymous with the club. As a player, he helped them win their first LaLiga title in over a decade, while as manager, he won four titles in a row and secured the club's first-ever Champions League title in 1992. Thank you for teaching us to love the years without Johan. Always in our memory. 💙❤ — FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) March 24, 2025 Known for inventing the turn named after him and being the first player to start the tradition of squad numbers - famously 14 in his case - he was ahead of the game in every single way, including from the penalty spot. Alisson Becker returns early from Brazil duty after suspected concussion

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has returned to Merseyside after sustaining a 'suspected concussion' in Brazil's World Cup qualifying win over Colombia. The 32-year-old was forced off in the 78th minute after colliding with former Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez in Brasilia overnight. After the game team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said the player would undergo assessment for concussion and Liverpool have confirmed the goalkeeper has since left South America to come home. 'Alisson is travelling back to Merseyside and will undergo assessment from the Reds' medical staff,' said a statement. Lasmar had said Brazil followed the required protocol immediately following the incident. 'Becker suffered a trauma to the head region, he was replaced (due to) a suspected concussion,' he told CNN Brazil. 'Alisson is normal, with no complaints. He reported no fainting and no memory loss. He thought he was a little slower (and with) this complaint the recommendation is the replacement of the player.' Alisson's issue is another injury worry for head coach Arne Slot after midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who was substituted in Sunday's Carabao Cup final, withdrew from the Netherlands' squad on Wednesday due to a fitness issue. 🔸 Ryan Gravenberch leaves training camp. Ryan Gravenberch has left the Oranje's training camp this evening. The midfielder is still suffering from an injury sustained over the weekend that prevents him from playing in the matches against Spain. Take care, Ryan! 🍀… — OnsOranje (@OnsOranje) March 19, 2025 Centre-back Ibrahima Konate, who had been a fitness concern before Sunday's Carabao Cup final after sustaining a problem in the Champions League exit to Paris St Germain last week, was also substituted at half-time of France's 2-0 Nations League defeat to Croatia on Thursday but head coach Didier Deschamps allayed fears of an injury by suggesting it was a tactical decision. The Premier League leaders, whose next match is at home to Everton on April 2, are already without defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley and midfielder Tyler Morton.

Netherlands vs Spain – Predicted lineup and team news

The Netherlands host holders Spain in the first leg of their UEFA Nations League quarter-final this evening. For the first time, the tournament has introduced quarter-final ties and the Oranje will hope to make home advantage count at De Kuip. Ronald Koeman's side exceeded expectations to reach the semi-finals of Euro 2024 last summer before progressing to this stage of the Nations League with a runners-up finish to Germany in League A Group 3. 𝙿𝙰𝚁𝚃 𝙾𝙽𝙴: 🇳🇱⚔️🇪🇸 #NothingLikeOranje #NEDESP — OnsOranje (@OnsOranje) March 20, 2025 The Netherlands face a tough task against Nations League holders and reigning European champions Spain. However, the Dutch can take heart from a strong record against Spain. In the last eight meetings. the Netherlands have lost just once, in the 2010 World Cup final. Ronald Koeman is light defensively with Nathan Ake, Stefan de Vrij and Devyne Rensch unavailable through injury. Spurs centre-back Micky van de Ven has also not been included after a spell on the sidelines, while Denzel Dumfries has withdrawn from the initial squad. Uncapped Ajax defender Youri Baas has been called up as a replacement for Dumfries, while Brighton midfielder Mats Wieffer was a late inclusion for the injured Jerdy Schouten. Memphis Depay has been selected despite scoring just twice in 15 games for Corinthians in 2025. The 31-year-old has 46 goals for the national team, just four short of Robin van Persie's all-time record. Netherlands predicted XI: Verbruggen; Frimpong, De Ligt, Van Dijk, J. Matthijs de Ligt added to Netherlands squad for Nations League quarter-finals

Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt has been added to the Netherlands squad for March's Nations League quarter-finals. De Ligt was not initially selected when Ronald Koeman named his provisional squad on February 28, but he has since been recalled after defenders Nathan Ake and Stefan de Vrij withdrew due to injury. Ake is sidelined after undergoing foot surgery, while De Vrij sat out Inter's Champions League win over Feyenoord on Tuesday. Advertisement Last month's omission had been the first time the 25-year-old had not been picked in a squad, apart from when he has been injured, since making his international debut in 2017. De Ligt has made 38 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United this season following his summer move from Bayern Munich. He experienced a difficult international call-up in September, where he was substituted at half-time during a 2-2 draw with Germany having made mistakes in the build-up to both opposition goals. The Netherlands squad is otherwise unchanged from the one Koeman named in February, with De Ligt's United team-mate Joshua Zirkzee continuing to miss out, and Memphis Depay returning for the first time since the 2024 European Championship. Presenting our #NationsLeague quarter-final squad! 🇳🇱#NothingLikeOranje — OnsOranje (@OnsOranje) March 14, 2025 Memphis, 31, joined Corinthians on a free transfer in September following the conclusion of his Atletico Madrid contract. He scored seven goals in 11 league appearances for the Brazilian side during the 2024 season. Speaking in September, Koeman said the forward still had an international future, performance-dependent, after criticising Steven Bergwijn's move to Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad. 'I disapproved of Steven Bergwijn's move to Saudi but with Memphis, it can be different,' Koeman said. 'The level of the league in Brazil is different, so yes, he can still be part of the national team, but it depends on his fitness and if he reaches his level.' The Netherlands play Spain in a two-legged Nations League quarter-final tie on March 20 and 23. ()
