Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsri crowned Miss World

Thailand is celebrating a historic first. Opal Suchata Chuangsri has been crowned Miss World 2025, dazzling a global audience in Hyderabad, India. This marks Thailand's maiden win at the iconic beauty pageant, now in its 72nd year. Opal, just 22, outshone 107 other contestants from around the world and received her crown from outgoing queen Krystyna Pyszkova of the Czech Republic. The grand event, hosted at the HITEX Exhibition Centre, was a spectacle of colour, music, and culture. Bollywood stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Ishaan Khatter added even more sparkle to the night, according to New Indian Express. Opal's victory is a moment of pride for Southeast Asia and a story of hope for young women everywhere. 'After waiting 72 years for our first crown, it's an incredible honour to bring it home,' Opal said. 'I now have the opportunity as Miss World to travel and support important projects around the world. I'm excited to make an impact'. As the field narrowed to the final two, Opal felt a strange calm. 'It was the most intense moment, yet I felt calm. I knew my people were proud of me for reaching that far. It felt like a dream,' she recalled. Opal's gown became a talking point of the evening, as she wore a delicate white dress adorned with opal-like florals. These symbolise both healing and strength. 'The shimmering white fabric and delicate opal-like florals reflect women who choose hope over fear,' Opal explained on Instagram. 'Just like the opal, I shine in my light. Her 'Opal For HER' campaign, which inspired the gown, champions women's resilience and transformation. The Swarovski crystals on her dress, she said, 'sparkle like the inner light that guides us through darkness'. As Miss World, Opal plans to focus on causes close to her heart, including breast cancer awareness. 'If you believe in your purpose, you're already extraordinary,' she told reporters. India, the host nation, had pinned its hopes on Nandini Gupta. She made it to the Top 40 but missed out on the final eight. The disappointment was palpable, but the event itself was a showcase of unity and global talent. Opal's win is a reminder that with hope, compassion, and self-belief, anything is possible. As she put it, 'The soft flare mirrors the ripple effect of compassion—how one heart can awaken many'. The new Miss World will now embark on a year-long journey, supporting humanitarian projects and inspiring a new generation of women. Her message is clear: shine in your light, and never stop dreaming. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Miss World 2025: Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsri Crowned Miss World 2025 in Hyderabad

Miss World 2025: Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsri shines as Miss World 2025, crowned in a dazzling ceremony in Hyderabad Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsri has been crowned Miss World 2025 at a glittering ceremony held on 31 May at the HITEX Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad. She received the prestigious title from outgoing Miss World 2024, Krystyna Pyszkova of the Czech Republic. The 72nd edition of the global pageant saw 108 contestants from around the world competing for the crown. Ethiopia's Hasset Dereje was named first runner-up, while Poland's Maja Klajda secured the second runner-up position. Aurlie Joachim from Martinique rounded off the top four. India's representative, Nandini Gupta, made it to the top 20. Who is Opal Suchata Chuangsri? Born and raised in Phuket, Opal is currently pursuing a degree in international relations and works as a professional model. Her advocacy for breast cancer awareness stems from a personal experience — at just 16, she discovered a lump in her breast, which, though non-cancerous, motivated her to become a voice for early detection and awareness in Thailand. Her advocacy initiative, Opal For HER, focuses on education and empowerment for women, and her finale gown was designed as a tribute to this mission — embodying the symbolic strength, beauty, and transformation of the opal gemstone. Interestingly, Opal also competed in the Miss Universe 2024 pageant held in Mexico City, where she initially placed as the third runner-up. However, her ranking was later revoked after she accepted the Miss World Thailand title before completing her full reign as Miss Universe Thailand. A Star-Studded Finale The grand finale in Hyderabad was a celebration of beauty, culture, and purpose. It was hosted by former Miss World 2016, Stephanie del Valle — resplendent in a traditional Indian lehenga — and Indian television host Sachiin Kumbhar. The event featured energetic performances by Bollywood stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Ishaan Khatter, bringing an extra touch of glamour to the evening. The judging panel featured a mix of global personalities, including actor Sonu Sood — who was honoured with the Miss World Humanitarian Award — and Sudha Reddy, who currently serves as the Global Ambassador for the Miss World Foundation's 'Beauty With a Purpose" initiative. Also on the panel were Dr Caryna Turrell (Miss England 2014 and public health expert from the University of Cambridge) and reigning Miss World Krystyna Pyszkova. Julia Morley CBE, the Chairwoman of Miss World, led the jury, while the event was graced by several Indian celebrities, including actors Manushi Chhillar, Rana Daggubati, Namrata Shirodkar, and politician Chiranjeevi. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was also in attendance, underscoring the event's cultural significance. This marks the second consecutive year that India has hosted the Miss World pageant — the 71st edition took place in Mumbai in 2024. With Hyderabad now joining the ranks of global cities that have welcomed this iconic event, the pageant continues to highlight India's growing prominence on the world stage. As the new Miss World, Opal Suchata Chuangsri will spend the year championing her platform and travelling the globe as an ambassador for causes close to her heart, continuing the legacy of beauty with a purpose. 'Just like the opal, I shine in my own light,' Opal shared on Instagram. While Thailand rejoices in Opal's crowning, India's hopes were dashed as Nandini Gupta, the country's representative, failed to make it into the Top 8 finalists. The announcement came through Miss World's official Instagram page. Nandini had made it to the Top 40 after a standout performance in the earlier rounds, where she was among the 18 contestants who 'fast-tracked' to this prestigious category. However, she could not make it to the final cut, and as the competition progressed.
