The title of Miss World 2025 went to Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsri after the grand finale held in Hyderabad, India on Saturday (May 31). Taking over the crown from last year's winner Krystyna Pyszkova of Czechia, Opal is the 72nd Miss World and the first winner from Thailand in the history of the pageant, according to the organisation. She was up against three other contestants in the final round of the pageant: Hasset Dereje from Ethiopia, who was the first runner up; followed by Maja Kladja from Poland and Aurelie Joachim from Martinique. The finalists also had to answer a question to the jury that was meant to test their vision, eloquence and values. Hyderabad, June 1 (UNI) In a glittering ceremony held at Hyderabad's HITEX Exhibition Centre, 21-year-old Opal Suchata Chuangsri from Thailand was crowned Miss World 2025 on Saturday, triumphing over 108 contestants from across the globe. Opal outshone participants from 108 nations, including strong contenders like Hasset Dereje of Ethiopia, Maja Klajda of Poland and Aurelie Joachim of Martinique. Her coronation was presided by Miss World 2024, Krystyna Pyszkova, who ceremoniously passed on the bejeweled crown, sealing Opal's ascension into the international limelight. India's hopeful, Nandini Gupta, was unable to secure a position in the top eight. Along with the prestigious title, Opal was awarded a cash prize of Rs 8.5 crore, sparking an atmosphere of celebration in Thailand as she has brought international fame to her country. She participated in the competition under the slogan of 'Opal for Her' campaign, inspired by her personal battle with cancer. She has been suffering from cancer since the age of 16 and is actively raising awareness about breast cancer and collaborating with organizations to support victims. Her partnership with Prima Jewellery led to the Daobrak collection — beautiful pieces that now fund screenings and treatments for women in need. But what struck me most was her sincerity. During the pageant in India, she spoke about her stay in Telangana. 'The kindness I received in Telangana was overwhelming,' she said. 'The people, the culture, the warmth — it felt like home. It's something I'll always carry with me.' When the crown was placed on her head, it wasn't just a win for Thailand — it was a win for every woman who ever felt unseen. And in true Opal fashion, her message remains: 'You are not alone. In Thailand, we say cancer is afraid of happiness — so keep smiling, keep laughing, and keep living.'
