MyLabourHub aims to support smarter, data-driven decisions, says DOSM
PUTRAJAYA: Whether tackling job mismatches or choosing where to settle after marriage for better economic prospects, the Statistics Department's (DOSM) Malaysia Labour Market Data Hub (MyLabourHub) platform aims to support smarter, data-driven decisions. Officiating the launch of the platform at DOSM headquarters here on Tuesday (May 27), chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said this marks a significant leap in the country's efforts to strengthen data-driven policymaking and empower the workforce. 'MyLabourHub is more than just a portal, it is an intelligent platform that integrates data, institutions and technology to provide labour market information that is current, accurate and accessible to all stakeholders. 'It also offers a wide range of key functions, including a labour market analysis platform that provides a comprehensive picture of employment trends, wage levels and skills requirements that align with the current employment environment,' he said, adding that the platform was built internally by DOSM. Mohd Uzir said the platform adopts a whole-of-nation approach to support inclusive and sustainable growth and talent development, designed to serve a wide range of stakeholders including policymakers, industry players, training institutions and the public. 'It allows users to explore employment trends by skill level, sector and geographic location with data updated monthly, quarterly and annually. 'This initiative goes beyond just statistics. It's about empowering the people, businesses and policymakers with accessible and understandable data. 'Even parents can use this to guide their children in choosing future careers,' he said. Mohd Uzir said the platform supports comprehensive time-series analysis, enabling policymakers to track progress on employment strategies, wage growth and labour demand in alignment with Malaysia's socio-economic goals. 'We provide data down to the district level with over 100 districts to support targeted policy implementation,' he said, adding that the platform is complementary to OpenDOSM, which has earned global recognition. Mohd Uzir said the platform, among others, will help improve labour market efficiency and information flow among employers, job seekers and training providers, reduce job search costs through better access to data and support the transformation of the education system in line with industry needs. He said the platform has more than 100 key indicators across eight labour market themes such as labour supply and demand, graduate statistics, micro, small and medium enterprises, Sustainable Development Goals and others. Among its key features are the integration of over 60 major labour market indicators and with administrative data from 40 ministries and agencies, including Employees Provident Fund, Social Security Organisation, Accountant General's Department, Public Service Department and Higher Education Ministry. 'It also features Kayra-GPT, a generative AI-powered digital assistant that enables quick and user-friendly labour market information search,' he said. In addition to MyLabourHub, DOSM will roll out an agriculture-specific dashboard TaniStats on Thursday (May 29), he added. keywords:

Nga lauds nation's top spot in open data
On the ground: Nga with residents at the Sentuhan Kasih KPKT 3.0 programme in Kuantan. PETALING JAYA: Malaysia scored two major achievements on the global stage in the areas of open data and press freedom, says Nga Kor Ming. The Housing and Local Government Minister lauded the achievements, particularly in the Open Data Inventory (ODIN) 2024/25 ranking where the nation came up tops. 'Malaysia created history by securing the top position in the ODIN with an impressive overall score of 90. 'We outperformed 198 others, including developed nations such as Singapore, Finland, Denmark and Poland,' he told a press conference in conjunction with the Sentuhan Kasih KPKT 3.0 programme in Kuantan yesterday. Nga said the milestone reflects the commitment of the Madani government with regard to data transparency and public accessibility, particularly through the launch of the OpenDOSM portal in 2023. The platform modernised and centralised access to Malaysia's official data while reinforcing the country's digital governance framework. 'Open data is crucial because it supports evidence-based policy planning. 'When data is openly accessible, it enables more accurate, informed decision-making by policymakers. 'This also helps build public trust and strengthens governance,' he said. The achievement, Nga added, also highlights Malaysia's capability to compete globally with regard to its openness and coverage of official data. He said this further cemented Malaysia's status as a global leader on open government data. The minister also highlighted a significant improvement in Malaysia's ranking on the World Press Freedom Index 2025, published by Reporters Without Borders. 'Based on the latest evaluation, our ranking rose 19 spots from 107th in 2024 to 88th this year,' he said. This marked improvement is seen as a positive sign due to ongoing reforms and improvements of the media landscape, he added. Among Asean nations, Malaysia now holds the second-highest position on the index, behind Thailand, which is ranked 85th globally.

Malaysia Tops Global Open Data Ranking Through OpenDOSM NextGen
PUTRAJAYA, May 1 (Bernama) -- The OpenDOSM NextGen application, a platform offering data catalogues and visualisations to help users analyse various datasets, has propelled Malaysia onto the global stage in the Open Data Inventory (ODIN) 2024/25 assessment. Launched by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) in 2023, the platform helped Malaysia outperform 198 countries with an overall score of 90 and an exceptional data openness score of 99. Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said ODIN is an important benchmark as it provides a comprehensive overview of how well a country makes its data open and accessible to all. Malaysia also made history by climbing to the top of the ODIN ranking, a significant jump from 67th place in the 2022/2023 assessment. 'OpenDOSM, which currently hosts 645 datasets, allows anyone, including the public, to access information at their fingertips. In addition to economic data, we also provide social, environmental, and detailed data from parliamentary to state assembly levels, indirectly assisting the government in planning more targeted development and economic projects,' he said in a special interview. He said the OpenDOSM initiative has successfully bridged the information gap between policymakers and the public. By offering an accessible and user-friendly data platform, OpenDOSM strengthens the ability of policymakers and researchers to make evidence-based decisions. 'The platform's recognition has extended beyond Malaysia's borders. Countries like Qatar have shown interest in our approach, and I have been invited to share our experience and best practices in implementing OpenDOSM,' he said. Asked about the factors contributing to Malaysia's success in the latest ODIN assessment, Mohd Uzir credited the commitment and passion of DOSM personnel in promoting public awareness and data literacy. This, he said, led to strategic reforms focused on improving data coverage and openness.

Malaysia tops global open data ranking through OpenDOSM NextGen app
PUTRAJAYA: The OpenDOSM NextGen application, a platform offering data catalogues and visualisations to help users analyse various datasets, has propelled Malaysia onto the global stage in the Open Data Inventory (Odin) 2024/25 assessment. Launched by the Statistics Department of Malaysia (DOSM) in 2023, the platform helped Malaysia outperform 198 countries with an overall score of 90 and an exceptional data openness score of 99. Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin (pic) said Odin is an important benchmark as it provides a comprehensive overview of how well a country makes its data open and accessible to all. Malaysia also made history by climbing to the top of the Odin ranking, a significant jump from 67th place in the 2022/2023 assessment. "OpenDOSM, which currently hosts 645 datasets, allows anyone, including the public, to access information at their fingertips. In addition to economic data, we also provide social, environmental, and detailed data from parliamentary to state assembly levels, indirectly assisting the government in planning more targeted development and economic projects," Mohd Uzir said in a special interview. He said the OpenDOSM initiative has successfully bridged the information gap between policymakers and the public. By offering an accessible and user-friendly data platform, OpenDOSM strengthens the ability of policymakers and researchers to make evidence-based decisions. "The platform's recognition has extended beyond Malaysia's borders. Countries like Qatar have shown interest in our approach, and I have been invited to share our experience and best practices in implementing OpenDOSM," he said. Asked about the factors contributing to Malaysia's success in the latest Odin assessment, Mohd Uzir credited the commitment and passion of DOSM personnel in promoting public awareness and data literacy. This, he said, led to strategic reforms focused on improving data coverage and openness. "A special task force was established to address identified gaps, with particular attention given to gender-based data and district-level statistics," he said. He added that the newly announced assessment methodology by Open Data Watch (ODW) for Odin 2024/25 also spurred DOSM to prioritise the publication of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)-related data, as it is a key component in the scoring system. To sustain Malaysia's performance in future assessments, Mohd Uzir said DOSM has implemented an Odin Self-Assessment Dashboard to monitor real-time progress on data coverage and openness. Among the key enhancements to OpenDOSM is the integration of the Advanced Release Calendar (ARC), synchronised with DOSM's official portal, to help users access the latest information on DOSM publications. Additionally, OpenDOSM now offers an email subscription feature that notifies users when new datasets are published. "DOSM remains committed to strengthening Malaysia's open data agenda to ensure continued relevance at both national and global levels," he said. The Odin report, published biennially, evaluates the openness and coverage of official national statistics based on the availability of key indicators, disaggregation by time and geography, and accessibility in machine-readable formats. Odin aims to promote transparency, accountability, and evidence-based development through the use of high-quality data. — Bernama
