256 suspects arrested in women-led Operation Basadi in Ekurhuleni
A total of 256 suspects were arrested during Operation Basadi in Ekurhuleni, a joint effort led by women in blue and their partners to tackle crime in the area. The operation took place from August 6 and 7 in Alberton, Moffat View, Eastcliff and Oakdene. The initiative was led by female officers from various law enforcement agencies, including the SAPS, EMPD and Gauteng Traffic Police. According to Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole, the operation was a success, with detectives arresting 237 wanted suspects during tracing operations across the district. These included suspects linked to contact crimes, property crimes and gender-based violence cases. EMPD spokesperson Captain Kgotso Letang praised the teamwork and dedication of the women involved. 'The EMPD is proud to have been part of this operation, which demonstrates our commitment to working together with other law enforcement agencies to keep our communities safe,' said Letang. Operation Basadi also included awareness campaigns and community engagement initiatives. Social Crime Prevention teams went door to door raising awareness about house robberies and distributing safety pamphlets to motorists. Community imbizos were held in various areas across Ekurhuleni, giving residents the chance to voice their concerns about policing in their neighbourhoods. Major General Sithole commended the women in law enforcement for their hard work and dedication, saying their efforts are making a real difference in reducing crime across Ekurhuleni. The success of Operation Basadi is a testament to the power of teamwork and collaboration in keeping communities safe.

During an operation focused on promoting road safety and law enforcement on the Bethal Road, women in blue conducted a roadblock. 'During the operation, several illegal immigrants were arrested and traffic fines were issued to motorists for various traffic violations, ensuring safer roads for all commuters,' said police spokesperson, Captain Eddie Hall. Colonel One Thobejane, the acting station commander of Witbank SAPS said, 'Operation Basadi is a key initiative to not only enhance the safety of our community but also to empower and showcase the dedication of our female police officers during Women's Month. We remain committed to protecting our community and ensuring compliance with the law.' Kraaifontein police make multiple arrests at Operation Basadi's kick-off
CAPE TOWN - Police in Kraaifontein have made multiple arrests during the start of Operation Basadi. The operation took place on Friday, where members met at a high school in the area and searched the school bags of over 800 learners as they entered the school grounds. A mini community service centre was also set up, where police managed to service 11 respondents with protection orders for domestic violence-related cases. Members arrested a 25-year-old male for the possession of stolen goods and arrested another 33-year-old for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Police spokesperson Frederick Van Wyk said members checked and searched 47 vehicles around the school 'While the search continued at the school, the members searched a silver Kia Sportage and found a Norinco 7.62 calibre with eight rounds inside the spare wheel in the boot of the vehicle. The firearm with the rounds was confiscated and handed in.' said Van Wyk.
