PONTIAN: A total of 29 foreigners were arrested for various immigration offences in an operation involving three entertainment centres here. Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the suspects, aged between 18 and 40, were arrested during an operation codenamed Ops Gegar, conducted at around midnight on Wednesday (July 30) in Pontian. 'A total of 69 individuals, including locals, were inspected during the operation. 'Further checks led to the arrest of 17 Vietnamese women, 11 Indonesian women and an Indonesian man. 'The suspects are believed to have misused their social visit pass and temporary work visit pass to work as waitresses at the entertainment centres,' he said in a statement on Friday. He added that the department also arrested three local men, believed to be managers and supervisors of the centres. Mohd Rusdi said the foreigners were detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering and staying in Malaysia without valid permits. They are also being investigated under Section 15(1)(c) of the Act for overstaying, and Section 56(1)(i) for possessing false or altered entry permits, passes or certificates. 'They are also believed to have committed offences under Regulation 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for misusing social visit passes, and Regulation 39(b) for violating the conditions of their passes. 'Meanwhile, the three Malaysians were detained for harbouring foreigners under Section 56(1)(d) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,' he said. Mohd Rusdi added that a total of 17 notices were issued to individuals to appear at the department's enforcement division to assist with investigations. 'All detainees are being held at the Pekan Nanas Immigration Depot for investigation and further action,' he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur branch of the Malaysian Immigration Department raided a massage parlour and uncovered prostitution activities on Wednesday (July 30). The raid through Ops Gegar was carried out on a three-storey spa in Jalan Sultan Ismail, Bukit Bintang here at around 4.45pm based on public complaints. KL Immigration director-general Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said during the raid, a total of 22 individuals were arrested, comprising 15 foreign women, five foreign men and two local men, aged between 19 and 36 years. He said all the women arrested were believed to be working as sex workers, including six Indonesian women, five Vietnamese women, two Bangladeshi women, one Mongolian and one Chinese woman. "These premises offer sex and body massage packages or sex services only with an estimated price of around RM250 to RM450, depending on the nationality of the sex workers involved," he said when met at the raid location on Wednesday. According to him, two local men who were acting as guards at the premises were arrested under Section 56(1)(d) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for protecting, hiring or employing illegal immigrants. "All foreigners, including men believed to be employees or customers at the premises, were detained under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for violating the conditions of passes or permits issued under the Immigration Act 1959/63. "A total of seven summons notices to witnesses have been issued to customers and employees to appear to assist in the investigation at the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department," he added. – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign nightclub guest relations officers (GROs) in Kuchai Lama were found earning thousands in tips before immigration officers raided the premises, detaining 20 people. The revelation came from a local woman in her 50s, believed to be the person in charge of the establishment. The woman was among 20 individuals detained during an Ops Gegar raid by the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department yesterday. Kuala Lumpur Immigration Director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said a search of the premises uncovered garlands with tip values ranging from RM100 to RM2,000. "Six women believed to be working as GROs were detained — three Thai nationals and three Vietnamese. Also arrested were four Taiwanese men, five Bangladeshi men, and one Chinese man. "One Malaysian woman, suspected to be the club's manager, was also detained," he told reporters at the raid location today. According to him, the foreign nationals were detained under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963. He added that the local suspects will be investigated under Section 56(1)(d) of the same Act for allegedly harbouring undocumented migrants.

PUTRAJAYA: Immigration Department raids on three Klang Valley locations on Wednesday (July 9) have led to 89 arrests, including locals, in a crackdown on a suspected prostitution syndicate. Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said 'Ops Gegar' involved simultaneous raids in Kuchai, Sri Petaling and Cheras, targeting premises suspected of harbouring foreign sex workers. In the first raid at 3pm, officers arrested 26 foreign women, namely 11 from Vietnam, eight from Indonesia, six from Thailand and one from Myanmar, believed to be offering sexual services. Two men from Bangladesh and Pakistan, as well as four local men acting as 'guardians' of the premises, were also detained. "These operations were disguised as budget hotels and offering sex services from RM160 to RM480," Zakaria said, adding that the syndicate used websites to promote services, with transactions arranged via WhatsApp and Telegram. At around 10.55pm the same day, a second operation was launched at an entertainment centre allegedly employing foreign guest relations officers (GROs). Of 96 individuals screened, 61 were arrested, including 44 Thai women, four Laotians, and two women each from Vietnam and Myanmar. Also detained were five Bangladeshi men and four Thai men suspected of working at the venue, while seven locals were issued notices to report to the Immigration headquarters to assist in investigations. All detainees were transferred to the Putrajaya Immigration Depot for further investigation under Section 51(5)(b) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Immigration Regulations 1963 and the Passport Act 1966. - Bernama

According to a statement from JIM Sarawak, the operation, conducted around midnight by 11 officers from JIM Sarawak's Special Action Team (PTK), aimed to curb vice and illegal activities, particularly those involving foreign workers without valid work permits. 'A total of 64 individuals were inpected during the raid, leading to the detention of 29 for various offences. 'The individuals, comprising 19 males and 10 females, are being investigated under Immigation Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations for offences such as employing workers without valid permits and misuse of permits,' the department stated.
