Immigration nabs 32 foreigners in raid on 'Mini Pakistan' near Ayer Hitam

AYER HITAM: Thirty-two foreigners were detained in a raid conducted by the Johor Immigration Department at a place dubbed 'Mini Pakistan' in Ayer Hitam town near here. Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the raid was carried out following complaints from the public and intelligence gathering. He said the operation codenamed Ops Belanja, Ops Selera, Ops Sapu and Ops Kutip was held on Wednesday (Aug 6) starting from 2.25pm. 'We also detained three local men who are the business owners and supervisors of the detained foreigners," Mohd Rusdi said in a statement. He said the foreigners were 20 Pakistani males, nine Bangladeshi men, an Indonesia man and two Indonesian women adding all detainees including three local men aged between 20 and 54. Mohd Rusdi said the illegal foreign workers have committed offences under the Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155). 'We will continue to work closely with other enforcement agencies to eradicate the influx of illegal immigrants in the state," he said. Mohd Rusdi said Johor Immigration will not compromise and will take stern actions against employers and business owners for employing illegal foreign workers.

SEMPORNA: The Sabah Immigration Department detained 11 Pakistani men during an enforcement operation in Semporna on Wednesday night. The operation, codenamed Ops Sapu, was conducted from 11pm to 3am by the district's Immigration Enforcement Unit with the support of 12 personnel. Sabah Immigration Director Sh Sitti Saleha Habib Yussof said the action followed departmental intelligence and public tip-offs. Of 13 individuals inspected, 11 were arrested under the Immigration Act for lacking valid travel documents or overstaying their permitted duration. GUA MUSANG: The state Immigration Department arrested 25 undocumented migrants, mostly from Myanmar and Bangladesh, during a two-day Ops Sapu enforcement operation in the Lojing Highlands, an area known for its vegetable farming. Its director Mohamed Yusoff Khan Mohd Hassan said the operation, which began at 5pm on Sunday, involved 28 personnel from the department's enforcement division. "A total of 36 foreign nationals were inspected during the operation. "Of these, 25 were arrested for immigration-related offences," Mohamed Yusoff said. He added those detained comprised 14 Myanmar men, six Myanmar women, four Bangladeshi men and one Nepali man. All of them were brought to the Tanah Merah Immigration Depot for further investigation. "They are being held for suspected offences under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said. Mohamed Yusoff urged members of the public to come forward with any information regarding undocumented migrants or illegal activities involving foreigners. "Stern action will be taken against individuals or parties who harbour, assist, or collude in protecting undocumented migrants," he said.

In a statement, the Sarawak Immigration Department said the operations, dubbed Ops Belanja, Ops Selera, and Ops Sapu, were part of ongoing efforts to curb the presence of undocumented migrants in the country. A total of 29 enforcement officers inspected 92 individuals of various nationalities during raids on business premises, including restaurants and workers' quarters at construction sites. The raids were carried out based on prior intelligence. 'Following inspections, a total of 26 individuals comprising 20 men and six women were detained for various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations,' the department said. The offences included overstaying, failure to hold valid passes or permits, and misuse of social visit passes. The department also issued a stern reminder to employers and premises owners not to hire or shelter undocumented foreign workers. 'The department will not hesitate to take legal action against any individual or entity found to be violating existing immigration laws,' it said. SANDAKAN: A 12-hour large-scale immigration crackdown saw 238 undocumented migrants detained here early Wednesday. Sabah Immigration Department Director Datuk Sh Sitti Saleha Habib Yussof said a total of 480 individuals were screened during the operation which began around 1.30am and ended before noon. The integrated operation, codenamed 'Ops Sapu' and 'Ops Mahir', targeted squatter settlements, construction sites and wood-processing factories at four hotspots, including Batu 8 and Batu 10 settlements. The operation involved 71 officers from the Sandakan, Tawau, Lahad Datu and Kota Kinabalu districts, as well as the department's enforcement division. 'The 238 people detained comprise 88 adult men, 88 adult women, 30 boys and 32 girls,' she said. They were detained for not possessing valid documents under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, overstaying under Section 15(1)(c), misuse of passes under Section 39(b) and employing undocumented migrants under Section 55B, among other offences. Of that number, 6,058 individuals have been deported to their countries of origin, while 53 employers have been prosecuted. 'We remind employers in Sabah to cooperate by ensuring that their workers have valid travel documents before hiring them, especially in factories or the construction sector, to avoid facing legal action,' said Sitti. She said such enforcement operations will continue in districts, including Semporna, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau and Sandakan, to uphold immigration laws across the State. She warned that action will be taken against employers and premises owners found hiring undocumented foreigners or individuals violating the conditions of their passes.
