GWM to triple EV lineup in Australia

GWM Australia has confirmed its Ora electric hatch will be joined in Australia by two more electric vehicles (EVs), meaning the brand will have three EVs in showrooms by the end of 2026. Speaking at the launch of the 2025 GWM Haval H6 SUV in Melbourne, GWM Australia chief operating officer John Kett outlined the brand's plans. 'We certainly have an EV story to share next year,' Mr Kett told media, including CarExpert. 'Fast-paced portfolio change is important, and segment expansion of that portfolio, which we've demonstrated.' 'We've got one EV today, [but] I would say by the third quarter next year, [we'll have] three.' Deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Mr Kett wouldn't elaborate on which EVs would be introduced here, but the brand has confirmed it's testing an electric dual-cab ute in China. There may also be a mid-size SUV – slightly smaller than the recently refreshed Haval H6 – in the works, after the automaker showed a pre-production 'Haval New SUV' battery-electric test car in China earlier this year. Another possibility is the Ora Sport sedan, a rival to the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal, which was shown to local media in 2024. The only other EV that GWM currently offers in China is the rather twee Ora Ballet Cat, heavily inspired by the original Volkswagen Beetle and featuring unusual features such as Warm Man Mode. In contrast with rival Chinese brands like MG that have offered multiple electric SUVs, GWM hasn't offered any and instead its EV efforts have traditionally been focused on small hatchbacks. In 2023, GWM introduced its first and currently only EV in Australia, the Ora. Known as the GWM Ora 03 or Ora Good Cat overseas, the MG 4 and BYD Dolphin rival is currently priced at $33,990 drive-away for the Standard Range model grade. That makes it among the cheapest EVs on sale in Australia. The Ora alone was enough to see GWM the tenth-best-selling EV brand in Australia in 2024, with its total sales including hybrid and diesel models seeing it ranked tenth overall, too. Year-to-date, GWM has improved to seventh – knocking off MG as the most popular Chinese brand, with BYD snapping at GWM's heels in eighth, fewer than 2000 sales behind. Sales of the Ora are down, however, with 331 sales to the end of June 2025 seeing GWM ranked 17th in EV sales, behind Toyota (427 sales) but barely ahead of Ford (315). While GWM is among market leaders in terms of hybrids, with plug-in versions of its Cannon Alpha ute as well as its Haval H6 GT SUV. In currently has two PHEVs on sale here – with its Toyota LandCruiser Prado and Ford Everest rival, the Tank 500 PHEV due later by the end of 2025 – alongside four conventional hybrids in local showrooms. The introduction of the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) this year – which includes fines for automakers whose lineup exceeds carbon-dioxide emission limits – makes the case for hybrids yet stronger. 'The only way to comply is to start bringing in technology that transitions people from petrol-diesel into EVs, and we think plug and hybrid is the way to go as a transition,' said Mr Kett. 'We have to resolve EV, but not to the degree that people would think,' Mr Kett said. 'Certainly by 2030, we've got to be 80 per cent PHEV and EV, and 20 per cent diesel. That's what we've been saying … we've got the best pathway to get there.'

My LGBTQ fans are in a league of their own, says Rita Ora

Rita Ora considers her LGBTQ fans to be "in a league of their own". The 34-year-old pop star has developed a big fan following among the LGBTQ community over the years, and Rita admits that the affection is mutual. The singer - who toured with Kylie Minogue earlier this year - told People: "They're just in a league of their own. "There is so much to learn from the years and history of the constant struggle of being authentically themselves. There's so much to it." Rita - who is married to Hollywood director Taika Waititi - believes her LGBTQ fans really know how to "celebrate individuality". The singer said: "They're amazing and they know just how to have a good time, but they celebrate individuality, creativity. "The conversations they have amongst each other is just full of love. But underneath it all there's always a sense of emotion and vulnerability, and that, for me, wins every time. And the makeup slaps! It's like, nobody knows how to do makeup better than the queens, you know what I mean? It's just the way it is." Meanwhile, Rita recently confessed that she wants to "celebrate [her] sexuality" through her new music. The singer released her latest single, Heat, last month, and Rita admitted that it's a taste of things to come from her. The Hot Right Now hitmaker told People: "The whole theme of this record is really about being instant [and] really direct with my messaging and stripping everything back behind me, production wise." Heat was co-written by Troye Sivan, and Rita feels she has "a lot in common" with the 30-year-old music star. The pop singer also feels that her new music is really reflective of her current mindset. Rita - who released her debut album, Ora, back in 2012 - said: "I love his sexuality and the celebration he has with that. "I was really inspired for me and my womanhood to really kind of celebrate my sexuality, my sexiness and get back into my body, you know? And this really just embodied that."

Rita Ora stuns in daring leather outfit during New York outing

Don't miss out on the headlines from Celebrity Life. Followed categories will be added to My News. Rita Ora has turned heads in her most rebellious outfit yet, looking like a fun, fearless rockstar. The singer stepped out in New York over the weekend in a bold leather outfit adorned with silver studs, grommets, chain detailing and tassels. Never one to dress conservatively, the British singer left the pants at home, instead teaming her studded corset with a cheeky pair of hotpants that showed off her pert bottom. Rita Ora turned heads as she stepped out in New York wearing a sexy black ensemble over the weekend. Picture: JosiahW / BACKGRID The singer got cheeky by leaving the pants at home and opting for skimpy hotpants. Picture: JosiahW / BACKGRID The 34-year-old did try to cover up by wearing what looked like a black scarf as a sarong, which had the word 'rockstar' emblazoned on the fabric. She capped off her look with black knee-high cowboy boots decorated with edgy chains. Ora's New York outing comes months after she was dragged online for what was perceived as a 'rich flex'. Ora appeared to wear a scarf as a sarong for some modesty. Picture: JosiahW / BACKGRID But her pert bottom still peeked through. Picture: JosiahW / BACKGRID The singer struck the wrong chord with her followers after joking about her decision to take a last-minute trip to Sydney after a night out, where on a whim she hopped on a plane and flew Down Under. 'P. O. V last night I drunkenly decided I wanted to come to Sydney in the morning,' she wrote on TikTok at the time. While the video was meant to be good-humoured, it was not well received, with people quick to point out that it is privileged to be able to travel internationally at a second's notice while most are in a cost of living crisis. 'I can't relate because I'm poor,' one noted. 'Rich privilege,' someone else claimed. 'No need to flex like this to the poor,' one complained. Not everyone was offended by her last-minute trip. Others praised her travel decision and said, 'Yes, Queen,' and 'I love you.' Ora has spent a fair bit of time in Australia in recent years because she was a judge for two seasons of the singing competition The Voice. X SUBSCRIBER ONLY She's also married to New Zealand director Taika Waititi, who recently spent a lot of his time in Australia filming Marvel blockbusters. Ora credits Australia with helping her embrace a 'healthy' lifestyle. Ora has previously spoken to and praised Aussies for knowing 'how to party,' which she loves doing. The pop singer went on to explain that she feels the most 'free' when she's in Australia and loves the laid-back lifestyle. 'I exercise, I know it's boring … but Australia is where I discovered getting healthy. When I came to do The Voice, everyone was just on a really healthy thing. Now I'm obsessed with it,' she said.
