Orbeez gun leads to aggravated assault arrest in Siloam Springs

Siloam Springs, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A Gentry man was arrested on May 31 after allegedly pointing a toy gun at a woman in Siloam Springs, according to court documents. Donnovan Hayes, 18, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault. No formal charges have been filed as of June 5. According to a probable cause affidavit, police responded around 4:31 p.m. to a report of an individual with a gun in Siloam Springs. Officers found gray Ford Fusion matching the suspect vehicle description at the scene. After being briefly held at gunpoint, all three occupants in the Ford were detained without incident. A white object resembling a firearm, later identified as an Orbeez gun, fell from the vehicle as one person exited, according to the affidavit. An alleged victim, parked nearby, told police the front passenger, Hayes, pointed what appeared to be a gun at them, leaving her and her children frightened. According to the affidavit, that Hayes denied pointing the gun at the victim. Arkansas Hooters location among dozens closed following bankruptcy filing Hayes told officers he was participating in a game involving Orbeez guns, plastic toy guns that shoot soft gel pellets, with about 30 others in the Northwest Arkansas area. Players reportedly used the Life360 app to track each other during the game. The affidavit states Hayes claimed he intended to shoot another participant in the game, not Berry, and said the game included rules prohibiting players from shooting people who are not involved. The two other occupants in the Ford were released, and Hayes was taken to the Benton County Jail. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 'Everybody is not being considerate': Kai Cenat Reacts to Eye Injury at Streamer University

Image via: Christopher Polk / Getty Images A high-energy game at the recent Streamer University event took a dangerous turn on May 25, 2025. A female student got a serious eye injury from an Orbeez gun. The game, meant to be a fun and chaotic end to the event, made Twitch star Kai Cenat stop the activities and go to the hospital. This started a bigger talk about safety at events run by influencers. Streamer University: A Bold Try at Content Creation The University of Akron hosted Streamer University from May 22 to May 25, 2025. It brought in more than 120 people who want to create content chosen from over one million who applied. Kai Cenat, the very popular Twitch streamer known for his high energy and huge social media following, put the event together. Streamer Hospitalised at Streamer University, Kai Cenat Responds The event promised to mix learning and fun. Big names like Duke Dennis DDG, and AMP Agent 00 gave talks and workshops. They covered topics from personal branding and content creation to how to handle the always-changing digital world. The goal was to give people who came both the skills and the exposure they need to do well in content creation. A Game Gone Wrong Nevertheless, the big finale on the last day turned into a disaster. A game that seemed harmless with Orbeez guns—devices that fire small, water-absorbing pellets—got out of hand too fast. The game resulted in one player getting hit in the eye causing a bad injury. As the situation spiraled, Kai Cenat, looking worried, made a quick announcement. 'I'm on my way to the hospital, and all I'm asking for y'all is to clean because everybody is not being considerate. Please, if you come together and just clean, that's all,' he said. The event, which was shown live on Twitch, set off alarms about the balance between making engaging content and keeping participants safe. Critics have asked if events like Streamer University—full of lively and sometimes careless activities—are ready to handle the physical risks that come with them. The incident at Streamer University surely highlights the urgent need for better safety planning. As the content creation grows higher, there will be better plans in the future, at least the community is thinking. 'Scary incident' as gel pellets fired from vehicle at Minneapolis middle schoolers

Officials have filed a police report after a "scary incident" outside two Minneapolis schools that saw an individual firing gel pellets at students from the window of a truck. An email sent to parents says the incident happened near Justice Page Middle School and Washburn High School in south Minneapolis Friday morning. Principals Shannon Tenner and Emily Palmer wrote: "We are writing to share that a scary incident happened near our schools this morning before class started. "A young adult drove by a group of Justice Page students and shot Orbeez gel pellets out the window of a truck, hitting multiple Justice Page and Washburn students." The principals say the suspect has been identified and is not a student at either Washburn or Justice Page. They continue to describe a situation in which a vehicle sidles up before someone opens fire from within – even though using a toy gun – as "very alarming." Orbeez makes water-absorbing beads designed to be fired from splat ball guns, and have been known to cause injury when fired close enough. There have also been reports from other parts of the country of the beads being frozen before firing to cause greater injury. "We are relieved that our students are ok," Tenner and Palmer wrote.

Teen charged with murder in high-speed chase blames Michigan cops in lawsuit

A Michigan teen charged with murder is suing after he says the recklessness of two deputies led to the death of a passenger during a high-speed chase. The federal lawsuit was filed on April 28 against Jackson County and two deputies with the county by Cayden Powers and the estate of Jordan Jarrell. McClatchy News reached out to Jackson County for comment May 1 but did not immediately hear back. On April 28, 2023, Powers, 15 years old at the time, was driving a vehicle in Jackson County, according to the civil complaint. Powers led deputies on a high-speed chase after he and four other teens in the car with him were accused of shooting at vehicles with an Orbeez gun, according to MLive. An Orbeez gun is a toy that shoots small gel balls. Dash cam footage obtained by MLive shows deputies chasing the vehicle. The vehicle crashes then continues driving, and deputies continue chasing it before it crashes a second time, the outlet reported. Two passengers were ejected from the vehicle, WILX reported, including 15-year-old Jarrell. Jarrell died as a result of his injuries, the complaint said. Powers is charged as an adult with second-degree murder, according to court records. However, the lawsuit says the deputies are to blame for the fatal crash. The complaint said deputies were negligent and used 'excessive and unreasonable force and violence' when they engaged in the high-speed chase. 'It was so reckless that it demonstrated a substantial lack of concern for whether (Powers and Jarrell) would be injured,' the lawsuit said. Jarrell was described as 'sweet, caring, and adventurous' in his obituary. He liked sports, being outside and hanging out with his friends. The lawsuit is asking for more than $1 million in damages.

Liberal police investigate violent acts by teen ‘gang'

LIBERAL, Kan. (KSNW) — Police in Liberal are investigating a series of violent acts they say are carried out by a group of teens who may be organizing themselves as a gang. The incidents, which involve kidnapping, assaults, and other crimes, police say, are raising serious concerns within the community. County settles lawsuits over ex-deputy's sex crimes In a public safety announcement published on social media, Liberal police say the group may meet the legal definition of a criminal street gang under Kansas law. Police cited reports and video evidence show juveniles being ambushed, shot with Orbeez guns (water pellet guns), restrained with duct tape — including over their mouths — and even shocked with jumper cables. 'These are not harmless pranks,' the Liberal Police Department said in a statement. 'They are criminal acts and will be treated accordingly.' Anyone with information or who has been affected by these incidents is urged to contact police at 620-626-0141. The case remains under investigation. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
