'Orphan 3' Update: Isabelle Fuhrman Teases Fantastic Script At Spookala 2025

The chilling Orphan franchise is gearing up for its third installment, with star Isabelle Fuhrman offering an exciting update on Orphan 3 at the Spookala Florida Horror Convention in April 2025. Greenlit by Lionsgate in November 2024, the threequel sees Fuhrman reprising her iconic role as Esther, the murderous con artist posing as a child, under the direction of William Brent Bell and writer David Coggeshall. Fuhrman's enthusiasm for the script and fan support signals a promising chapter for this cult horror series. Here's everything we know about Orphan 3 , drawing from Fuhrman's ScreenRant interview and recent reports. Isabelle Fuhrman's Spookala Update At Spookala, Fuhrman shared her excitement for Orphan 3 , speaking to ScreenRant about the project's progress and fan fervor, per ScreenRant. 'It's early stages, but it's definitely rumbling,' she said. 'I just went to my first horror convention… and it was so cool to meet so many fans of Orphan . People dressed up, came from all over to see me… For me, it feels like such a great thing to make another film for the fans, because they seem to really want it. I would love to do it, and the script that I read was fantastic.' Her comments highlight the project's momentum and a script she deems 'fantastic,' echoing her January 2025 remarks to THR about its quality driving her return, per JoBlo. X posts, like @ovicio's 'Está fantástico,' amplify her praise. The Orphan Franchise Legacy The Orphan series began with Jaume Collet-Serra's 2009 cult hit, where Fuhrman, then 10, played Esther, revealed as Leena Klammer, a 33-year-old killer with a hormonal disorder. Grossing $78.8 million on a $20 million budget, per Variety, it earned a 59% Rotten Tomatoes score but became a fan favorite. The 2022 prequel, Orphan: First Kill , saw Fuhrman, aged 25, reprise Esther using camera tricks, earning $45 million despite a day-and-date Paramount+ release, per ScreenRant. The franchise's $125 million global haul and dedicated fanbase, evident at Spookala, fueled Lionsgate's greenlight for Orphan 3 at the 2024 American Film Market, per Deadline. Development Status and Creative Team Orphan 3 is in early development, with Fuhrman confirming active progress behind the scenes. Lionsgate and Dark Castle Entertainment are producing, with Norman Golightly stating, 'With the past success of the first two movies and another thrilling storyline, we are confident that Orphan 3 will be a must-see movie,' per Variety. Bell, known for The Boy , directs, while Coggeshall, who wrote First Kill , pens the script. Fuhrman's January 2025 update to CBR noted production preparations, suggesting a 2026 release if filming begins soon, per ScreenRant. X user @CriticalOverlo3 hyped Fuhrman's return, expecting 'another twisty ride.'. Script and Story Possibilities Fuhrman's praise for the 'fantastic' script, shared at Spookala, builds on her earlier comments to THR about its 'great idea,' per ScreenRant. At Spookala, she teased an 'inbetweenquel,' blending prequel and sequel elements, possibly set between First Kill 's early 2000s and the 2009 original, per Bloody Disgusting. Bell told THR the 'franchise's rulebook has been opened,' hinting at bold twists, per JoBlo. The 2009 film's alternate ending, where Esther survives, and First Kill 's 30-year timeline gap offer room for new schemes, perhaps involving fresh victims or a maternal foe, a recurring theme. Challenges and Expectations Fuhrman's casting at 28 requires continued use of body doubles and forced perspective, as in First Kill , to portray a child, a challenge Bell embraced, per News18. The franchise's mixed critical reception—59% and 53% on Rotten Tomatoes—contrasts with its commercial success, per MovieWeb. Fans on X, like @MisterMovieIT, expect 'wilder and crazier' twists, but topping the shocking reveals of the first two films is daunting. Bell's vision for an expansive lore, per ScreenRant, could deepen Esther's psyche, making Orphan 3 a standout. What's Next for Orphan 3 With Fuhrman's Spookala update confirming a 'fantastic' script and early-stage progress, Orphan 3 is poised to enter production soon, potentially targeting a 2026 release, per GeekVibesNation. Plot details remain under wraps, but the 'inbetweenquel' concept and Bell's open rulebook suggest a daring narrative. Dark Castle's confidence, per Golightly's statement, and Fuhrman's fan-driven enthusiasm at Spookala bode well. As Esther's twisted saga continues, Orphan 3 could solidify her as a horror icon, thrilling fans who dressed as her at Spookala. Are you hyped for Orphan 3 's wild twists? What's your guess for the 'inbetweenquel' story? Share below!

Movie Tea: 'Orphan 3″ In The Works; Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock Reunite For Untitled Film

New movie tea just dropped, and it's awesome! From a much-demanded horror sequel, to a reunion of the world's sweethearts – here's this week's lowdown on new developments in the world of cinema. 'Orphan' Greenlit For A Third Instalment After years of waiting for any news on the cult horror film 'Orphan' fans will be happy to know that the pint-sized killer is back for another instalment. Not only that, but it has been confirmed that Isabelle Fuhrman will return to play her devilishly iconic role as Esther, and joining her on this venture will be David Coggeshall and William Brent Bell, who will be writing and directing the film, respectively. This bit of news was announced by the film's production company, Dark Castle Entertainment, with Lionsgate set to launch the movie at the American Film Market later this week. The Co-CEO of the entertainment company, Norman Golightly, stated that 'Dark Castle is excited to announce another terrifying chapter in the 'Orphan' saga. With the past success of the first two movies and another thrilling storyline, we are confident that 'Orphan 3' will be a must-see movie for both current fans of the franchise and new fans alike.' The details of the plot are, naturally, kept under wraps, and that's for the best. Fans of the original film know that the plot revolves around a major plot twist and that the sequel explores said twist further. If you haven't watched either film, it's highly recommended that you do so in preparation for 'Orphan 3.' Though many have said the franchise is wacky and outlandish, others stand by it. It is a cult film for a reason. Though it has received mixed reviews from critics and fans, we cannot deny that the franchise has grossed a combined US$125 million globally to date and catapulted Fuhrman's acting career. Where the third instalment will take us is anyone's guess, but we'd be lying if we said we aren't excited for it. Reeves & Bullock Reunite For Untitled Amazon MGM Film After years of being apart, the dynamic duo of Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves is back! Known for their 90s classic action film 'Speed' and the romantic drama 'The Lake House,' Reeves and Bullock are once again sharing the big screen, as they've been attached to a yet-to-be-revealed romantic thriller. However, it's not just these two who will be reconnecting, as they will be joined by Mark Gordon, the producer of 'Speed.' Noah Oppenheim will also be writing the script for the film. Though details are under wraps for now, the upcoming project has been described as 'propulsive.' As to what that may allude to is anyone's guess. What we do know is that, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Gordon and Oppenheim brought the idea for the project to the two veteran actors, and they collaborated to develop the film further. Each person brought their own respective companies to help bring the film to reality: Bullock with Fortis Films, Reeves and Gordon through The Mark Gordon Company, and Oppenheim with Prologue Entertainment. Though we may not know what this film is or what it's about, we have a feeling that it's going to be great, just by past experiences alone. 'Speed' is still fondly remembered by action aficionados around the world and is said to be the film that defined the 90s cinema scene. The ''Die Hard' On A Bus' blockbuster has maintained its mass appeal all these years thanks to the leading stars' chemistry, which still endures.

'It's definitely rumbling': Isabelle Fuhrman provides Orphan 3 update

Isabelle Fuhrman says 'Orphan 3' is "definitely rumbling". The third film in the horror franchise was greenlit by Lionsgate in November, with Fuhrman, 28, set to reprise her role as Esther - who is actually escaped Estonian psychiatric patient Leena Klammer, a woman with a rare hormonal disorder that gives her the appearance of a 10-year-old child - while director William Brent Bell and 'Orphan: First Kill' writer David Coggeshall also due to return for the upcoming movie. The lead star insisted it's still "early stages" but she is hopeful they will get to make the new instalment. Speaking to ScreenRant, she said: "It's early stages, but it's definitely rumbling. I just went to my first horror convention, I think it was two or three weeks ago, and it was so cool to meet so many fans of Orphan. People dressed up came from all over to see me, and to talk to me about the movie, and ask questions. For me, it feels like such a great thing to make another film for the fans, because they seem to really want it. I would love to do it, and the script that I read was fantastic. So, I hope that we get to make the movie. Everything is always in stages, takes some time, but it would be great. It would be really, really great." While plot details and a release date are yet to be announced, Lionsgate confirmed Dark Caste Entertainment would be producing the picture. In a statement, Dark Castle co-CEO Norman Golightly said: 'Dark Castle is excited to announce another terrifying chapter in the 'Orphan' saga. 'With the past success of the first two movies and another thrilling storyline, we are confident that 'Orphan 3' will be a must-see movie for both current fans of the franchise, and new fans alike.' After debuting in 2009, the series went on hiatus until the prequel 'Orphan: First Kill' was released 13 years later. Previously, Fuhrman said she loved playing the disturbed character in the first film, and was pleasantly surprised to be asked back for the 2022 prequel given she had aged out of the role. The 'Horizon: An American Saga' actress told Variety: 'It was actually Brent who put his foot down and was like, 'I'm only doing it if Isabel is Esther.' 'He forced the studio to do a camera test with me where I was standing on my knees and they put my hair in pigtails and it was the weirdest day because it was like height of COVID and I hadn't been on a set since COVID, and I didn't know who I was working with. But obviously, it worked.' Fuhrman added she was shocked by the plot twist in 'First Kill', where it is revealed that the real Ester had died, and a young woman Leena had replaced her in her foster family. The actress said: 'I loved the twist because this is something that everybody expects when they see a sequel or a prequel, for it to rehash exactly what you knew about the last one.. And all of a sudden, it just flips everything on its head.'

MOVIE REVIEW: We see if we should keep our distance from horror 'The Woman in the Yard'

Spanish director Jaume Collet-Serra has a varied back catalogue that includes horror (the House of Wax remake, Orphan ). He turns to the dark side once again for Blumhouse's latest which follows Romana (Danielle Deadwyler) and her kids Taylor (Peyton Jackson) and Annie (Estella Kahiha) as they encounter a mysterious Woman (Okwui Okpokwasili) who repeatedly appears sitting in their front yard. It's a small cast in a self-contained farmhouse location so a lot rides on the quality of the acting and storytelling. The former is strong; Deadwyler unleashes a torrent of emotions - and says so much via her expressive eyes - and Jackson and Kahiha comfortably pass for siblings rocked by a family tragedy and frightened by the titular antagonist's arrival. Often bathed in darkness, and for the most part covered in a black cloak, Collet-Serra shoots Okpokwasili from every angle and distance while the actress unsettles using a distorted voice and unclear intentions. When she eventually gets out of her chair, her wobbly movements and simple decaying make-up, accompanied by a throbbing musical score, add to Okpokwasili's imposing presence. Collet-Serra delivers tilted camera work and makes the most of sunlight and shadow to support the off-kilter environment. However, sadly, that's where the positives end. The focus on grief and loss is admirable but ensures this is a tough watch. The constant sniping between Romana and Taylor wears you down and the lines between reality and fantasy blur so much it's not abundantly clear what exactly is going on during the final third. As I've said before, the biggest crime a horror flick can commit is not being scary and while The Woman in the Yard tries its best to be, it fails. A couple of jump scares and the Woman's appearance aside, this is pure family drama that is both bleak and instantly forgettable. It probably would have worked better as a short film - and at least that way poor Okpokwasili wouldn't have had to spend so long sitting in that chair. ● Pop me an email at and I will pass on any movie or TV show recommendations you have to your fellow readers. ● The Woman in the Yard is showing in cinemas now. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. This Reddit post was so popular that Hollywood is turning it into a movie starring Sydney Sweeney

Warner Bros. has secured the rights for a film based on a Reddit post starring Sydney Sweeney. The story was first posted to the r/nosleep subreddit, known for its "creepypasta" scary tales. Hollywood has previously adapted internet stories, like "Slender Man" and "Zola." Hollywood is betting big on a longtime internet classic: the creepypasta. Warner Bros. has won the rights to a film starring Sydney Sweeney based on a 4-year-old story posted to the r/nosleep Reddit community. The r/nosleep community on Reddit is a place where users share scary first-person stories. The community encourages users to maintain "immersion" by behaving as if the stories are real. The term "creepypasta" describes stories from the subreddit and is a play on the term "copypasta" — blocks of text that are so memorable they are reposted and repurposed across social media, becoming a meme. The film will be based on one of the community's most popular stories titled, "I pretended to be a missing girl so I could rob her family." The story follows a girl who pretends to be a daughter missing for several years so she can steal from a family. The plot is similar to the 2009 horror movie "Orphan," which follows a 33-year-old Russian woman pretending to be a young girl so that an unsuspecting family will adopt her. Sweeney has signed on to star in and produce the project and Academy Award-winning "Forest Gump" writer Eric Roth will write the script, Warner Bros. confirmed. Joe Cote, an English teacher from Massachusetts, posted the story on Reddit. Cote told The Daily Mail that his first thought when Hollywood talent managers reached out about the film last year was, "Holy crap. What is happening?'" Cote did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider. Hollywood has tried to bring other popular internet stories to the big screen before, banking on their already-established popularity. In 2018, Ryan Reynolds agreed to produce a film based on a post on the r/nosleep subreddit called "The Patient Who Nearly Drove Me Out Of Medicine." The film was never released. Maybe the most notable "creepypasta" to hit the big screen was the 2018 film "Slender Man," which is based on the Slenderman character that rose to fame through creepy stories on an internet forum called Something Awful. In 2021, A24 also released "Zola," which was based on a popular Twitter thread in 2015 posted by A'Ziah King. It recounted her trip to Florida to become a stripper. Reddit and the moderators of r/nosleep did not immediately return requests for comment from Business Insider. Warner Bros. also did not immediately return a request for comment.
