Awqaf honours participants in fourth ‘Our Summer, Our Way' programme
QNA Doha The Department of Da'wah and Religious Guidance at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs concluded the fourth edition of the 'Our Summer, Our Way' programme, with a closing ceremony held at the Nasser Bin Abdullah Al Misnad Mosque in the city of Al Khor, in the presence of several educational and social figures, parents, and representatives of participating entities. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ministry said the ceremony featured performances by participating students, including religious chants, segments on the Prophet's biography, and simplified explanations of the rules of ablution and acts of worship they learned during the programme. The event also included the honouring of cooperating institutions and outstanding students in the cultural competitions held as part of the summer activities. In his speech during the ceremony, Head of the Religious Guidance Section at the Dawah Department Moaz Al Qasimi praised the contribution of the participating entities in making the programme a success. He noted that the programme aims to utilise the summer vacation by offering educational, moral, and recreational content that helps enhance students' values and skills. During the ceremony, the ministry honoured the Internal Security Force Lekhwiya, the Traffic Department, the Mosques Department, and the Scholarships Section in appreciation of their role in supporting the programme through awareness activities, recreational programmes, and field trips, as part of an active community partnership. Awards were also distributed to outstanding students in the Cubs and Youth categories. The programme's activities were designed by a team of experts from the Ministry of Endowments to address educational, cultural, and skill-building aspects. They included Quranic lectures, courses on acts of worship, sports and cultural activities, training on the call to prayer (Adhan) and vocal improvement, as well as external trips. The programme was launched on July 7 across 10 Dawah centres distributed throughout the country. It targeted 10 to 15 years old age group. It ran four days a week during the morning period and featured specialised cultural and skills-building activities within the centres, in addition to external courses carried out in collaboration with several entities, providing participants with a comprehensive educational experience.

Dubai Police celebrate graduation of 922 students from summer programme
Dubai Police celebrated the graduation of 922 male and female students from its annual summer courses programme, themed "Our Summer: Security and Happiness… Innovation and Leadership.' The graduation ceremony was held at Dubai World Trade Centre and attended by Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police; Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid, Director-General of Dubai's Community Development Authority; and Engineer Marwan Bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality. Other attendees included senior officers, directors of police departments and parents. Organised in cooperation with the Emirates School Establishment, Knowledge and Human Development Authority, and Dubai Sports Council, the programme was hosted by the International Hemaya Centre and offered a variety of specialised courses aimed at fostering personal development and skills among students. Al Marri praised the students' commitment, highlighting the importance of such programmes in supporting youth during the summer break. He stressed that Dubai Police are committed to nurturing disciplined, aware and responsible generations capable of contributing to society. He also thanked parents for encouraging their children to benefit from educational and development opportunities. Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid commended the success of this year's edition, which saw participation from students of 28 nationalities, noting the role of such initiatives in cultivating diverse skills. Brigadier Khalid Bin Muwaiza, Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics, emphasised the role of summer programmes in building character, promoting values of courage and responsibility, and encouraging respect for laws. He underlined the importance of cross-sector collaboration to prepare youth for leadership in future roles. Brigadier Dr Abdul Rahman Sharaf Al Mamari, Director of the International Hemaya Centre, said the centre is committed to launching educational and training initiatives for all community groups, with a focus on students. He said the summer programme remains a key priority aligned with Dubai Police's strategic goal of enhancing community happiness. This year's programme included 13 activities such as the Young Investigator Course, Diving, Swimming, Military and Fitness Training, Future Officer Programme, K9 Police Dogs Course, Horse Care Course, 901 Call Centre Training, and a series of awareness lectures and field visits. A total of 1,332 students from 28 nationalities took part in the summer programme across 16 training centres, including government schools and Dubai Police facilities such as the General Department of Criminal Investigation, Mounted Police Station, 901 Call Centre and K9 Security Inspection Department. Al Mamari also highlighted the centre's achievements over the past three years, during which 375,741 students from 175 nationalities benefited from 505 awareness and summer programmes. Sharing 2024 statistics, he said last year's courses attracted 1,136 students from 31 nationalities, with 816 Emirati and 320 expatriate participants trained at 21 centres. He expressed gratitude to all strategic partners involved, including 40 government and semi-government entities, and praised their contributions to the sustainability and success of the seasonal initiatives. The graduation ceremony featured military drills by students and a documentary showcasing their training journey. An accompanying exhibition presented 22 projects supporting student programmes at the International Hemaya Centre. WAM

Al Khor Cultural Center launches summer camp for children
QNA Doha The Al Khor Cultural Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, has launched its summer programme for this year under the theme 'Our Summer, a Launch into Creativity' . The programme will run until August 6 and feature a wide range of purposeful cultural and artistic activities. This initiative is part of the Ministry of Culture's ongoing efforts to offer summer programmes that enrich the time of children and youth, while fostering their talents and abilities in a stimulating creative environment. Director of Al Khor Cultural Center, Maryam Ali Al Muhannadi, stated that the summer programme aims to make productive use of children's free time during the school break by catering to their needs and interests in a way that benefits them, under the supervision of qualified trainers. Al Muhannadi explained that the programme includes a variety of workshops that cater to different interests, such as oil painting, creative candle-making, anime drawing, kids' crafts, bead and decoration art, 'Make My Own Doll' workshop, advanced resin art, colorful bracelet-making, and floral crown and arrangement workshops for special occasions. Additionally, a mosaic art workshop is offered exclusively for girls aged 7 to 18 years and above. She added that the programme also includes a cooking workshop to teach participants culinary skills, as well as a Majlis Etiquette workshop offered for the first time for boys, in cooperation with the 'Nomas' Center. This workshop aims to introduce participants to the traditional customs and etiquette of Qatari majlis gatherings.

Summer skills programme launched in Suhar, Khaboura & Shinas
Suhar – As part of its efforts to nurture young talent, Ministry of Labour (MoL), represented by the vocational colleges in Suhar, Khaboura and Shinas, has launched a series of specialised training programmes for school students in cooperation with North Batinah Governor's Office. Called Our Summer: Skills and Creativity, the programmes aim to equip students with practical skills that enhance their talents and prepare them for real-life situations. The programmes provide an interactive environment where participants can exchange ideas, experiences and questions. A ministry official stated that the series reflects the ministry's vision to support the younger generation by developing their capabilities through hands-on vocational training. The programmes taking place at Shinas Vocational College are focused on the fundamentals of the English language, basics of electricity and physics, drawing, refrigeration and air conditioning, welding, and fabrication. Khaboura Vocational College is conducting training in 3D model design, printing and assembly, marine safety, distress response and safe navigation. Suhar Vocational College is offering sessions on home water maintenance, wood design and shaping, painting, and decoration. The training programmes are part of MoL's broader aim to prepare students for the future by bridging the gap between academic learning and the technical skills required in the labour market.

Inclusive summer programmes promote wellness
Al Batinah North Governorate is currently experiencing a high level of public engagement in summer programmes that extend beyond traditional cultural activities. This year, there is a greater emphasis on the mental and physical well-being of children and youth. Organised by the General Directorate of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Summer Sports Days have attracted more than 1,000 participants of various ages and genders, reflecting the community's growing interest in inclusive and beneficial development. The programme, held at the Sohar Sports Complex and continuing throughout July, offers a wide range of activities. Boys have participated in football, swimming and karate, while girls enjoy a dedicated centre that provides a safe and motivating space to engage in sports that develop fitness and motor skills. Mohammed al Farsi, General Director of the Department of Youth and Sports Activities, highlighted that the summer initiative is designed to nurture talents, promote values of teamwork and citizenship; and offer meaningful experiences during the school holiday. He noted the high level of enthusiasm across age groups, which highlights the programme's success in meeting its developmental goals. Participants also shared their positive experiences. Azzan al Hinai, a 17-year-old who joined the football programme, said, "It's been a great way to stay active and meet new people. I've learned how to work better in a team and improve my focus both on and off the field". From the girls' centre, Noor al Maqbali shared her excitement: "This is the first time I've joined a sports programme just for girls. It's empowering and I feel stronger and more confident every day". To expand the reach of these initiatives, the Directorate organised a Sports Caravan in Yanba village, located in Suhar. The event featured football, volleyball, tug of war and games for children, drawing strong participation from residents of all ages and helping spread sports culture to more remote areas. Summer centres at local clubs also continue to operate under the theme "Our Summer: Leadership and Creativity", supported by the Office of the Governor of Al Batinah North. These centres provide a mix of sports activities in a safe, energetic environment. Sports activities were distributed across participating clubs like Al Salam (football, volleyball, hockey), Majees (football, volleyball), Sohar (football, volleyball), Saham (football, girls' handball, table tennis), Al Khabourah (football, karate for both genders), and Al Suwaiq (football, girls' chess).
