These are the 10 best sci-fi films of all time according to film lovers

Futuristic cities, advanced technology, and existential horrors beyond our comprehension – science fiction has brought it all to the big screen. Enthralling viewers for generations after generations, some of the biggest blockbusters in history have come from the fantastical subgenre, so it stands to reason that many of our favourite films are rooted in sci-fi. But which one reigns supreme? Letterboxd, a social media platform designed for film fans, allows users to log and rate films as they watch them. So, gathering data from the platform by looking at the highest average ratings under science fiction, we have found the top 10 sci-fi films as decided by film fans themselves. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. From classic flicks to modern hits, these are the best of the best – and where to stream them. Where to watch: Not available to stream Coming in at number 10 is World of Tomorrow, a series of short films stitched together to make one feature-length epic. It follows a young girl named Emily who is contacted by a clone from her future self from 227 years into the future, who takes her to the Outernet, a futuristic version of the internet which allows them to explore their memories. Where to watch: Available to rent on Apple TV La Jetée is a French sci-fi thriller that you can watch on your lunch break with time to spare. Clocking in at just half an hour, Chris Marker's 1966 film is told almost entirely using still photos and explores the time loop story of a post-nuclear war experiment in time travel featuring unnamed characters. Where to watch: ITVX Regularly hailed as one of the best sci-fi films ever made, The Thing garnered a cult following after its home video release back in the 80s. John Carpenter's classic sci-fi film tells the story of a group of American researchers in Antarctica who come across an extraterrestrial life form that can infiltrate the bodies of other living organisms and imitate them to go undetected. Where to watch: NOW TV and Sky While Part One didn't break the top 20 on Letterboxd, Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two ranks in number seven of the top sci-fi films. The 2024 sequel sees Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) unite with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen to hatch a plan for revenge against the Harkonnen and those who killed his family. Where to watch: Disney Plus Despite their legendary status in the world of film, only one Star Wars film impressed Letterboxd users enough to enter the top 10. Set three years after the events of A New Hope, Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) continues to lead the Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire, while Luke Skywalker (Luke Hamill) trains in the ways of the Jedi. Where to watch: Netflix Spider-Man swings into the top five with the animated masterpiece Into the Spider-Verse, released in 2018. Where to watch: Available to rent on Prime Video, Apple TV, and the Sky Store Released in 1979, Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker was ranked number 29 on the BFI's list of the greatest films of all time – but it sits at number 4 in Letterboxd's sci-fi rankings. It tells the story of an expedition led by a figure known as the Stalkee (Alexander Kaidanovsky), who guides two clients to a mysterious restricted site known simply as the Zone, where there supposedly exists a room that grants a person's innermost desires. Where to watch: Netflix We're back into the Spider-verse – or across it, I should say – in our number three spot. Shameik Moore is back as Miles Morales in the 2023 film, as he joined forces with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) in a bid to stop a new threat in the form of the Spot. Where to watch: NOW TV and Sky Christopher Nolan's science fiction magnum opus Interstellar is still raved about more than 10 years after its release, but it didn't quite hit the top spot for Letterboxd users. Set in a dystopian future where Earth is suffering from a catastrophic famine, a group of astronauts travels through a wormhole near Saturn in a bid to find a new home to inhabit. Where to watch: Netflix More Trending Japanese animated apocalyptic science fiction Neon Genesis Evangelion: End of Evangelion is one of the greatest animated films ever made, nay, one of the greatest films ever made, so it stands to reason it's here at number one. Denmark Street and the battle for the soul of London's Tin Pan Alley

The Outernet's Now building — a four-storey light-and-sound spectacular that greets you like a slap as you exit Tottenham Court Road tube station — is not an addition to London's cityscape that pays much heed to history. But walk past the advertising screens and through an LED-covered tunnel and you emerge onto Denmark Street: the almost mythical home of post-war London's music scene. To read some of the more alarmist commentary when the Outernet district opened, you might expect this street to now be just another monument to late-stage capitalism: all global brands, competitive socialising and a Blank Street Coffee. Yet instead I'm stood outside a new record store, looking across the road at Stairway to Kevin, a first-floor guitar repair shop. If Outernet's arrival signalled 'the day the music died', as one Guardian scribe put it, then on this street it seems to be enjoying a rather remarkable afterlife. Nearby, for instance, is the Roland Store — the first standalone shop the instrument specialist has ever opened — which opened in 2022.

Alesha Dixon flashes her washboard abs in a sheer crop top and skirt at YouTube's 20th anniversary bash

Alesha Dixon flashed her washboard abs in a sheer crop top and skirt as she attended YouTube 's 20th anniversary bash at the Outernet on Thursday night. The singer and BGT presenter, 46, confidently flashed her jaw-dropping figure in the cleavage-flashing look. Alesha looked sensational in the ab-flashing ensemble, which she teamed with minimal accessories. YouTube hosted its annual Legacy Party to mark the incredible milestone, with a 'storytelling' theme. Earlier this year, Alesha hinted at relationship woes in a candid podcast interview - amid reports that she is 'giving it one last try' with her partner Azuka Ononye after their 'split' last year. It was first reported in November 2024 that the TV personality and her long-term partner, who share daughters Azura, 10, and Anaya, four, had split. Then in April, it was claimed that Alesha had admitted to friends that despite them having broken up, they were still living together. And it appears being under the same roof may have saved their relationship as The Sun then claimed they are giving things another go. And speaking on the Making A Scene podcast with David Walliams and Matt Lucas, she alluded to a tough time recently but added a positive spin saying she will 'rise above' any adversity that comes her way. She said: 'If I look back at the course of my whole life, I have highs and lows, and I think that's just reflective of life, isn't it? 'So as much as we'd all love to have the magical happy ending, life will be life. I'm sure I'll face many more challenges in my life, but no matter what challenges I'm faced with, I will rise above.' In the podcast interview, Alesha also opened up about the breakdown of her first marriage with MC Harvey and how winning Strictly Come Dancing. She said of his affair coming to light: 'I felt so lost, like, so lost. I've never been in that situation before. I felt sorry for myself for a long time. 'Then I won Strictly Come Dancing. I'm being spun around in the air at the end. All this confetti was falling on me. I just looked up to the sky and I knew I was going to be okay. 'I could feel that energy at the time. And that really was what kind of got me through as well. Because it was a very emotionally challenging time. 'Being in Strictly as well, it enabled me to just be in this bubble.' It was reported that Alesha had rekindled her relationship with her partner of 18 years Azuka - after it was thought that they had split late last year. A source told The Sun: 'They went through a really rocky patch and decided to call it a day. It had been difficult for a long time and Alesha just couldn't see a way forward. 'AZ even moved out to a hotel for a while, despite the fact they were co-parenting. But there is still a huge amount of feeling between them. They've been together for 18 years and have two beautiful children. 'So they have decided to give it one last try. They both desperately want to be a family again and are going to do all it takes to make it work. 'But Alesha's friends aren't convinced it will last. Ultimately, none of their problems have been fixed, so it's going to be tough.' A representative for Alesha was contacted by MailOnline for comment at the time.

The Diana Mixtape

Photo: Here @ Outernet It's a drag celebration of Princess Diana! Well, kind of: drag queens and musical theatre actors – including The Greatest Showman's Keala Settle – join forced in this production by Christopher D Clegg. In it, sundry incarnations of The People's Princess team up to blast through pop hits by Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Jade, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande and Kylie Minogue, because, uh, it's a drag show! Heaven knows exactly how this thing is going to land, but we can certainly say with confidence that if you love Diana, you will love or hate this.
