Cubs President Gives Three-Word Response Regarding Prospects
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Chicago Cubs are in prime position to make a run to the World Series for the first time since 2016. Chicago entered Friday 57-39, good for the second-best record in the National League and third best in all of baseball. The excellent start to the season means the Cubs will be buyers at this season's trade deadline. With that comes the loss of prospects. Team president Jed Hoyer was asked about the possibility of holding onto any key prospects and his response to that was rather short. CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - OCTOBER 01: Chicago Cubs President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer speaks to the media during a press conference at Wrigley Field on October 01, 2024 in Chicago, Illinois. CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - OCTOBER 01: Chicago Cubs President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer speaks to the media during a press conference at Wrigley Field on October 01, 2024 in Chicago, Illinois."No one's untouchable," Hoyer told reporters in a video posted to X by Marquee Sports Network. "At the same time though, we have really great prospects, and we'd have to feel like we're getting great value." Chicago indeed does have great prospects, as it has five on MLB's top 100 prospect list. Those five are No. 41 Owen Caissie, No. 51 Moises Ballesteros, No. 62 Jefferson Rojas, No. 84 Kevin Alcantara and No. 100 Jaxon was the most recent addition to the list, as he was added on Tuesday. After the graduation of Matt Shaw from the Cubs prospect list, Caissie is now the top prospect in the organization and it's for good reason. He is showing out at Triple-A with a .278 average, 19 home runs, 20 doubles, 42 RBIs and a .961 OPS. Combine those stats with his performance in the 2023 World Baseball Classic with Team Canada and you have an outstanding, young outfielder. Owen Caissie carries the momentum from his hot season into the Futures Game! The @Cubs' No. 1 prospect, who has a .961 OPS at Triple-A, laces an RBI double for the National League. Watch LIVE: — MLB Pipeline (@MLBPipeline) July 12, 2025 Ballesteros and Alcantara have both reached the major leagues in their young careers, Rojas has yet to appear in Double-A and Wiggins is currently in Double-A. Whether it is Caissie or any of the other prospects listed above, Chicago's front office will certainly have a tough pill to swallow when deciding which of its top prospects to include in trades. Cubs Top Prospect Owen Caissie Doesn't Pay Attention to Ongoing Trade Rumors
Cubs Top Prospect Owen Caissie Doesn't Pay Attention to Ongoing Trade Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With the Chicago Cubs expected to be aggressive at the MLB trade deadline, it's no surprise that the team's top prospects are involved in trade conversations and rumors. Advertisement In a piece from Bob Nightengale of USA Today, according to MLB general managers, among the top prospects in baseball, Cubs' top prospect Owen Caissie is one of the most likely prospects to be traded. Amid such rumors, and in Nightengale's article, Caissie shared his reaction to being involved in such rumors ahead of the trade deadline in less than three weeks. "I don't have Twitter," Caissie said, "So I don't check that stuff at all. I never really paid attention to that stuff, and I'm not going to start now. Playing GM isn't a good idea because you never know what's going to happen." Caissie is ignoring the trade rumors to the best of his ability; he isn't letting it become a distraction either. "I'm just going to show up at the ballpark every day with a smile on my face and just try to be the best I can be." Advertisement Although Caissie is ignoring the trade rumors, with the deadline approaching and the Cubs expected to be among the most aggressive buyers, Caissie will likely be involved in rumors for the next few weeks. They might even land a second starter if the right players become available. The Cubs are ready to commit to this team and might need to part with their top prospect to land the player(s) they need to improve the team. With a strong offense and bullpen, the starting rotation is the with a strong offense and bullpen largest hole on the roster. Justin Steele is out for the year, Javier Assad has been out for the whole season, and Jameson Taillon is out for a while. Advertisement Adding a starter is a massive priority for the Cubs, and with plenty of other teams looking to improve their rotation, the Cubs may need to use Caissie to land the top starters on the market. Amid such rumors, Caissie is ignoring the buzz and focusing on being the best player he can be every day when he walks onto the field. Whether he's moved or not, Caissie is trying to, as he says, "be the best I can be." This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 14, 2025, where it first appeared.

Cubs Expected To Trade Top Prospect With Superstar Potential
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Chicago Cubs are one of the best teams in baseball, and it's largely due to how aggressive their front office was in the offseason. Rather than sit on their hands, the Cubs went out and swung the trade of the offseason to land Kyle Tucker. The Cubs have dominated in the first half of the season and placed themselves atop the National League Central. With a few weeks to go before the trade deadline, many expect the Cubs to remain as aggressive as ever on the trade market. If this is the case, it should be expected that the Cubs will cut ties with one or two of their top prospects in order to secure whichever trades the front office is eyeing. USA Today's Bob Nightengale recently suggested Cubs top outfield prospect Owen Caissie is expected to be one of the better prospects traded at the deadline. ATLANTA, GEORGIA - JULY 12: Owen Caissie #17 of the Chicago Cubs celebrates winning a challenge using the Automatic Balls and Strikes challenge (ABS System) in the bottom of the first inning MLB Future's Game... ATLANTA, GEORGIA - JULY 12: Owen Caissie #17 of the Chicago Cubs celebrates winning a challenge using the Automatic Balls and Strikes challenge (ABS System) in the bottom of the first inning MLB Future's Game at Truist Park on July 12, 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia. More Matt Dirksen/"The best prospects expected to be traded by contenders this month, GMs believe, could be Cubs outfielder Owen Caissie and Seattle Mariners catcher Harry Ford. But Caisse doesn't want to hear the rumors," Nightengale wrote. Caissie has superstar potential written all over him. The 23-year-old has an OPS of nearly 1.000 in 73 Triple-A games this season. If the Cubs weren't loaded with talent in their outfield, there's a good chance Caissie would be in the big leagues by now. Even then, if he's not traded at the deadline, Caissie will almost certainly make his big league debut in the coming months. But the Cubs could also use him as a trade chip in a monster deal. If Chicago is going to land a starting pitcher like Sandy Alcántara, the front office is going to have to include a star prospect like Caissie. Cubs could soon cut ties with No. 1 prospect, MLB insider hints
One could argue that no matter what happens at the upcoming trade deadline, the Chicago Cubs already made the biggest trade of the season. Sure, there's an argument to be made for either of the blockbusters involving the Boston Red Sox. Yet Kyle Tucker is not only an All-Star starter, but a legitimate candidate to win the Most Valuable Player Award. Advertisement The dilemma, of course, is that Tucker is only guaranteed to be in town for a year. Which means that if the Cubs are going to win a World Series, they'd better do it now, before they enter a period of total uncertainty. So in short, more huge trades could be coming. And that means that Chicago's top prospects, even the number-one player in the farm system, could be on the move. On Wednesday, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reported that outfielder Owen Caissie was a name he had heard a lot in trade whispers from major league executives of late. "I get the impression the Cubs are 'all-in' to win this year and will trade Caissie or Alcántara if that lands them the right pitcher(s). Caissie's name in particular has come up a lot in my conversations and texts with front office execs in both leagues," Bowden wrote. Advertisement Follow The Sporting News On WhatsApp Caissie, 23, is big-league ready. He's put up a .963 OPS and 18 home runs in 71 games at Triple-A this season, and would make a nice addition to a lot of teams' lineups both now and for many years to come. The Cubs could see Caissie as their eventual Tucker replacement if the older superstar leaves in free agency. But if the Cubs don't end up making a difference-making trade and can't get it done in the playoffs, their year with Tucker will be remembered as a huge disappointment. Caissie will just have to wait alongside everyone else to see if his front office pulls the trigger. More MLB: Phillies predicted to acquire Orioles' $9 million All-Star at trade deadline

Cubs Believed to Be 'All-In' at MLB Trade Deadline According to Former Executive
Cubs Believed to Be 'All-In' at MLB Trade Deadline According to Former Executive originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Ahead of the MLB trade deadline, the Chicago Cubs have a chance to make some major additions to the roster. The most pressing need is in the starting rotation, and the Cubs are already scouring the market for their new starter. Advertisement However, a major question remains: how far will the Cubs go in the trade market? According to former MLB general manager Jim Bowden in The Athletic, the Cubs aren't going to back down in the trade market. "I get the impression the Cubs are 'all-in' to win this year," Bowden writes, "And will trade (Owen) Caissie or (Kevin) Alcantara if that lands them the right pitcher(s)." If the Cubs are willing to part with their top prospects, the starting pitching options they can land become much more interesting. Mitch Keller is one starter the team is interested in, while Sandy Alcantara is also of interest. Even with the potential departures of Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki in the offseason, the Cubs are willing to part with their top prospects if they can land the top options on their trade board. Advertisement Chicago Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer speaks before a baseball game between the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Guardians at Wrigley Krzaczynski-Imagn Images Jed Hoyer and the Cubs are ready to go "all-in" this season. With the third-best offense in baseball according to OPS (.779), it's no surprise the Cubs view this season as one to be aggressive. While the offense is good, the pitching staff needs bolstering. Justin Steele is out for the year, and after Jameson Taillon's injury, the need in the rotation became a lot more dire. Adding a strong third starter behind Shota Imanaga and Matthew Boyd would be the perfect trade deadline addition for a team looking to compete for the World Series. Less than a month from the MLB trade deadline, the Cubs are in second place in the National League and 2.5 games up in the NL Central. Between the potent offense and reported willingness to go "all-in," the Cubs making a major trade deadline splash is possible.
