Road works for 'upgrades' on major Oxfordshire A-road cause delays

Road works for 'upgrades' which have closed a major Oxfordshire A-road are causing delays for drivers this morning. The A34 in Abingdon, at the junction with the A4183 Oxford Road, is being impacted by construction works to "improve/upgrade" the carriageway. Multi-way traffic lights were installed on Monday, June 2 this week to cope with the lane closure, while the southbound slip road onto Oxford Road was closed yesterday, June 3. In a busy rush hour this morning drivers were queueing along the A34 through Kennington heading into Oxford, and were met with severe delays at the Hinksey Hill Interchange.

Jeremy Clarkson issues stark warning to drone users at his Oxfordshire sites

Jeremy Clarkson has warned drone users that his Oxfordshire property is a no-fly zone. The Clarkson's Farm star has been inundated with visitors at his Diddly Squat Farm in Chadlington which he purchased back in 2008 since the Amazon Prime show took off. His pub, The Farmer's Dog, also opened near Asthall in August 2024. However, the 64-year-old former Top Gear host has warned that not all attention is welcome at his Oxfordshire attractions in an exchange on social media platform X. The joke drew on the irony of the Tesla on gearhead Mr Clarkson's property, who once wrote in a column for The Sun saying: "It took me about 15 minutes to work out that electric cars were rubbish." RAF Brize Norton near Carterton has a 2.5mile radius Flight Restriction Zone where it is illegal to fly any drone without permission from Air Traffic Control or station operations, which includes The Farmer's Dog site. Mr Clarkson has previously been targeted by drone-flying thieves who were spotted "scouting the house and the farmyard" with the devices back in March this year.

Oxford University students tease Emma Watson with Harry Potter theme

Oxford University students teased celebrity actress Emma Watson by playing the Harry Potter theme after beating her in a rowing race this weekend. The Hollywood actress is well known for her iconic role as Hermione Granger in all eight of the wizarding world's films. After turning her attention to studies, she opted to study a Master's degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford in September 2023. It was announced in February that Ms Watson had switched to a DPhil, which is Oxford's version of a PhD. Before that, Ms Watson had attended the Dragon School as well as the Headington School where she studied for her GCSEs and A-levels. Photographs in the Daily Mail show Ms Watson yelling instructions at the college's women's third team over the weekend (Saturday, May 31). Her team went on to lose three out of their four races and, to add insult to injury, her competitors decided to tease the actress. It comes after she was most recently seen in public at Cannes Film Festival last month having not starred in a film since 2019's Little Women. According to national reports, the festival meant the 35-year-old was unable to attend the compulsory cox briefing before the tournament. Last week saw 11-year-old Arabella Stanton announced as Ms Watson's Hermione Granger successor in the upcoming Harry Potter series on American pay television service Home Box Office (HBO).
