Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry welcomes India-U.K trade agreement
The Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry hailed the India-U.K. Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed on July 24, saying that it would open up export opportunities for many sectors in the State. As the United Kingdom gave duty-free access to 99% of Indian exports, sectors such as textiles, gems and jewellery, leather, marine products, agriculture produce, food processing, electronics, chemicals and engineering goods would get a fillip, Andhra Pradesh Chambers president P. Bhaskar Rao said in a press release. He stated that Andhra Pradesh was strong in those sectors but has been struggling for the last few years owing to the pandemic, economic slowdown and global uncertainties. With the FTA, exporters from A.P. could look forward to increased exports not just to the U.K., but also to the European Union via the U.K. Andhra Pradesh is a major exporter of seafood and the U.K.'s $5.40 billion marine import market now gives widened access with zero tariffs thereby boosting exports. Agriculture and processed food products such as turmeric, coffee, mango pulp, pulses, spices, ready‑to‑eat foods and tropical fruits would gain tariff-free U.K. access. The FTA would not only ensure immediate export gains but also has long-term advantages. With the increase in exports in multiple sectors, Andhra Pradesh could expect employment generation. 'It also promises to streamline customs procedures and remove trade barriers which will benefit Andhra Pradesh exporters, particularly those in the MSME sector,' Mr. Bhaskar Rao added.

AP Chambers urges IndiGo airlines to launch direct flights from Vijayawada to Dubai, Singapore
Members of the Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (AP Chambers) on Thursday urged IndiGo Airlines authorities to operate direct flights from Vijayawada to Dubai and to Singapore. AP Chambers President P. Bhaskar Rao, while interacting with the IndiGo Airlines team, led by Associate Director-Sales (South India) Saurabh Sachdeva, highlighted the immense potential of operating direct flights from Vijayawada to international destinations. Mr. Bhaskar thanked the airline official for operating direct flights from Vijayawada to Kurnool, and said that Vijayawada and its surrounding area have a large NRI population, with a potential for international connectivity to places like Dubai and Singapore, among other destinations. He recalled that before the pandemic, IndiGo had operated direct flights from Vijayawada to Singapore with over 80% occupancy. 'With industrial activity picking up in the Amaravati region, the Vijayawada airport has witnessed 30,000-40,000 increase in passenger traffic. Majority of the flights from Vijayawada now operate with a load factor of 80%,' Mr. Bhaskar Rao said. He also requested for larger aircrafts like Airbus or Boeing, to be put into operations as they have the capacity to carry two to three tonnes of belly cargo, and the Vijayawada airport is equipped with the necessary infrastructure to handle such aircraft. Presently most of the aircrafts operated by IndiGo from Vijayawada are small aircrafts. On the domestic routes front, Mr. Bhaskar Rao requested for new routes with direct flights to destinations like Vijayawada-Varanasi, Vijayawada-Ahmedabad or Surat and Vijayawada-Kolkata via Visakhapatnam. He also wanted the officials to explore code-sharing agreement for flights operating from Vijayawada to facilitate seamless booking for passengers, efficient baggage transfers, and better connectivity to major international destinations. IndiGo Associate Director-Sales for AP and Telangana B.V.B. Chary and Sales Manager for AP Mohit Krishna also participated in the discussion.
