AP Chambers urges IndiGo airlines to launch direct flights from Vijayawada to Dubai, Singapore

The Hindu29-05-2025
Members of the Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (AP Chambers) on Thursday urged IndiGo Airlines authorities to operate direct flights from Vijayawada to Dubai and to Singapore.
AP Chambers President P. Bhaskar Rao, while interacting with the IndiGo Airlines team, led by Associate Director-Sales (South India) Saurabh Sachdeva, highlighted the immense potential of operating direct flights from Vijayawada to international destinations.
Mr. Bhaskar thanked the airline official for operating direct flights from Vijayawada to Kurnool, and said that Vijayawada and its surrounding area have a large NRI population, with a potential for international connectivity to places like Dubai and Singapore, among other destinations. He recalled that before the pandemic, IndiGo had operated direct flights from Vijayawada to Singapore with over 80% occupancy.
'With industrial activity picking up in the Amaravati region, the Vijayawada airport has witnessed 30,000-40,000 increase in passenger traffic. Majority of the flights from Vijayawada now operate with a load factor of 80%,' Mr. Bhaskar Rao said.
He also requested for larger aircrafts like Airbus or Boeing, to be put into operations as they have the capacity to carry two to three tonnes of belly cargo, and the Vijayawada airport is equipped with the necessary infrastructure to handle such aircraft. Presently most of the aircrafts operated by IndiGo from Vijayawada are small aircrafts.
On the domestic routes front, Mr. Bhaskar Rao requested for new routes with direct flights to destinations like Vijayawada-Varanasi, Vijayawada-Ahmedabad or Surat and Vijayawada-Kolkata via Visakhapatnam.
He also wanted the officials to explore code-sharing agreement for flights operating from Vijayawada to facilitate seamless booking for passengers, efficient baggage transfers, and better connectivity to major international destinations.
IndiGo Associate Director-Sales for AP and Telangana B.V.B. Chary and Sales Manager for AP Mohit Krishna also participated in the discussion.

IndiGo flyers stage sit-in on Delhi airport tarmac after Darbhanga flight is cancelled over night landing curbs

New Delhi: Indigo passengers of a flight from Delhi to Darbhanga in Bihar staged a sit-in protest at the airport's tarmac on Thursday evening and refused to leave after their delayed flight from Indira Gandhi International Airport was cancelled. The cancellation was announced as night restrictions would be in place at Darbhanga airport when the flight reaches and landing would not be permitted. Security staff from the airport and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were called to make the protesters vacate the area and escort them to the terminal. Flight 6E360 was among the multiple flights at Delhi airport that suffered huge delays before take-off as water-logged roads in the City due to heavy rains and slow moving traffic made it difficult for both passengers and crew to reach the airport. Bad weather at the airport also caused delays. The A320 Neo aircraft was scheduled to depart at 2 .20 pm but got delayed. It was finally readying to depart two hours later. Passengers were seated inside the aircraft but the flight did not take-off for half an hour and an announcement was made that the trip had been cancelled.

Kin of AI-171 crash ground victims hire US law firm

Families of 10 people killed on the ground in the Air India Flight AI-171 crash have hired Beasley Allen, the prominent US aviation law firm that secured billions from Boeing over the 737 MAX disasters, as the firm expands its representation of those affected by the tragedy in Ahmedabad on June 12. Kin of AI-171 crash ground victims hire US law firm The firm, led by aviation attorney D Michael Andrews, is exploring product liability claims against Boeing in US federal courts and Montreal Convention claims against Air India in UK courts, though no lawsuits have been filed yet. Andrews travelled to India in August to meet families across Gujarat and Mumbai, signing his 10th ground victim family on August 11. Among those killed was Maheshbhai Kalavadia, a Gujarati film producer from Naroda who had attended a meeting at Law Garden before calling his wife at 1:15 pm to say he was heading home. His remains were found 700 metres from the crash site and identified through DNA matching. 'These were innocent people who had nothing to do with the flight - they weren't even passengers,' said a relative who met Andrews. 'They were just going about their normal day when this tragedy struck.' The Boeing 737 MAX cases that established Beasley Allen's reputation involved crashes that killed 346 people between 2018 and 2019. Boeing ultimately paid $2.5 billion under a 2021 deferred prosecution agreement and settled more than 90% of claims, acknowledging liability for crashes caused by the faulty Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) it built into the jets. Andrews has taken on the case of victims killed in the medical college hostel where the plane crashed, including two people in the food preparation area and medical students in the mess hall, and also represents the family of a husband and wife killed while on a scooter for document verification. The firm is pursuing a water leak theory, focusing on the Boeing 787-8's electrical and equipment bay beneath the cockpit that houses flight computers including FADEC and TCMA systems capable of autonomous aircraft control. 'Above that and in those same areas, there are water lines and couplings that are known to have leaked on prior 787-8 aircraft,' Andrews explained, referencing Boeing service bulletins about coupling leaks that can allow water into computer equipment. The firm is filing Right to Information requests in India and Freedom of Information Act requests in the US to obtain complete flight data recorder information for independent expert analysis, Andrews told HT. Andrews met the sole survivor Ramesh and other families during his India visit, saying conversations were brief and private. He plans to file cases separately for each victim but has no fixed timetable pending data collection.
