‘Tharpana Mandapam' at Perur padithurai lying in disuse
The 'Tharpana Mandapam' constructed at a cost of ₹15 crore on a sprawling 5.5 acre land at Perur Padithurai (ghat) is lying unused. Hundreds of people perform their ancestral rites at the ghat on Amavasai day every month. In the event of heavy rain, the ghat gets inundated and puts people into untold hardship. Hence, it was decided to construct a 'Tharpana Mandapam'. A private trust constructed the facility at an outlay of ₹15 crore on 5.5 acres. The facility was handed over to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Department and was received by Minister P.K. Sekar Babu on May 18. However, the facility has not been put to use and people continue to perform the rites in the open or in the coconut farms nearby. The people have urged the HR and CE department to put the facility to use at the earliest.

414-cr Kuthambakkam terminal to open shortly under PPP model
Chennai: After much delay, the 414-crore Kuthambakkam mofussil bus terminal near Thiruvallur is set to become operational in the coming months. The (CMDA) is in the process of appointing a private concessionaire to oversee its operations and maintenance under a 15-year Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Spread over a core area of 24.80acres, the upcoming terminal will serve as a major hub for west-bound buses, including services operated by TNSTC and MTC. The state-of-the-art facility features parking for 136 buses, 64 idle bays, 44 commercial shops, dormitories, and a full suite of public amenities. An additional 9-acre area has been earmarked for idle bus parking and a police station. To enhance connectivity, the project includes a newly constructed 36-metre-wide, 2.2-km-long access road from NH-4, covering an extra 18.20 acres—bringing the total development area to 52 acres. "There were a lot of small issues in Kilambakkam even after its inauguration. In Kuthambakkam, all these problems will be addressed beforehand. It will be inaugurated soon after these minor issues are sorted out," said minister for CMDA P.K. Sekar Babu. The selected concessionaire will be required to establish a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under the Companies Act before signing the concession agreement. A mandatory 15-day trial run must be conducted after fulfilling all preconditions, marking the beginning of the concession period. The concessionaire will be responsible for managing all terminal operations—including bus bays, public amenities, parking, and commercial spaces—and will be allowed to generate revenue through advertisements, parking fees, and shop rentals. "Importantly, the concessionaire may sub-licence specific services like security or parking but will retain full responsibility for the quality and delivery of services," said a senior official.

Mikko Rantanen has second straight hat trick as Stars beat Jets 3-2 in series opener
P.K. Subban joins Dan Patrick to discuss the Maple Leafs, the Panthers, the current state of fighting in hockey, Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Utah's new name, Chris Kreider's 2014 incident with Carey Price and more. WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Mikko Rantanen had a natural hat trick in the second period, Jake Oettinger stopped 30 shots and the Dallas Stars beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Wednesday night in Game 1 of the second-round series. Rantanen, who had a hat trick in the third period of the Stars' Game 7 win over his former Colorado teammates, is the third player in NHL history — and the first in nearly 40 years — with hat tricks in consecutive playoff games. Edmonton's Jari Kurri accomplished the feat in Games 5 and 6 of the 1985 Campbell Conference final, and Chicago's Doug Bentley did the same in Games 4 and 5 of the 1944 Stanley Cup Final. 'Sometimes it goes that way,' said Rantanen, acquired from Carolina at the trade deadline. 'The third goal goes off them and goes five—hole. Or when you're going through a tough stretch, you feel like you could only pray for those and those never come.' Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is Friday night in Winnipeg. Nino Niederreiter and Mark Scheifele scored for the Jets, who had won four in a row at Canada Life Centre. Connor Hellebuyck made 21 saves. Scheifele returned after sustaining an upper-body injury in Game 5 in the first round against St. Louis. Dallas forward Jason Robertson was back after injuring a knee in the final game of the regular season. The Jets led the NHL with 116 points to earn home-ice advantage through the playoffs, while Dallas was second in the Central Division and third in the Western Conference with 106. 'We know we just gave up home-ice advantage,' Jets coach Scott Arniel said. 'And that wasn't a game where they rolled over top of us for three periods. That was a game where we weren't at our best.' Niederreiter got the sold-out crowd cheering when his sharp-angled backhander beat Oettinger at 3:30 of the second period. He became the NHL's first Swiss-born player to skate in 100 postseason games. Rantanen tied it at 8:43 with his sixth goal of the playoffs. His second goal was a tip of Thomas Harley's point shot with 5:39 left, and he made it 3-1 on the power play 2:17 later when his shot went in off Jets defenseman Dylan Samberg. 'Sometimes it's ups and downs in hockey and now it's going well individually and as a team,' Rantanen said. Rantanen extended his points streak to four games with eight goals and six assists across the stretch. He has 15 points this postseason. 'He's one of the best players in the world and he's just on fire right now, so we're just trying to get him the puck,' said center Sam Steele, who assisted on Rantanen's first goal of the night.

Japan's super easy sweet potato spread lets you make sweet potato bread thanks to Don Quijote
We discover a trick to make this DIY sweet snack even more delicious. 'Wait, dude, what? You haven't tried it yet?' Our reporter P.K. Sanjun didn't really appreciate his friend's tone of voice, and the smirk on his face didn't really sit well with him either. But P.K. had to admit that his buddy's surprise wasn't completely unfounded. Here at SoraNews24 we're always on the lookout for unique food and tasty treats, and with P.K. also being openly enthusiastic about sweet potato snacks and sweets, it was natural to assume that he'd already fallen in love with Spread It and Toast It and It'll be Just Like a Sweet Potato Spread, a sweet potato spread from Japan's discount retailer Don Quijote. But despite hitting that trifecta of aspects that would give P.K. both a professional and personal reason to try it ASAP, up until his friend tipped him off about it our reporter had been unaware of the existence of Nutte Yaitara Maru de Yaki-imo Spread, to use its Japanese name. Now that he knew about it, though, he extricated himself from the conversation as swiftly as he could and dashed to the nearest Don Quijote branch to pick up a tub for taste-testing purposes. The sweet potato spread is part of Don Quijote's Jonetsu Kakaku ('Passionate Price') private brand, which seeks to deliver good quality products at the affordable prices the chain is known for. A 140-gram (4.9-ounce) pack is priced at 431 yen (US$3), and with no rival sweet potato spread to compare it to we can't really comment on how good a deal it is, but if nothing else it's probably safe to say that this isn't going to rupture anyone's grocery budget unless you're not eating a container a day. This isn't just a tub of pure pureed sweet potato, though. It's more like peanut butter, but made with sweet potato instead. According to the official product description from Don Quijote, they fine-tuned the ratio of ingredients by a single percent at a time to achieve the optimum flavor that comes closest to a freshly roasted sweet potato, but in a spreadable-on-bread form. For best results, you're supposed to put the sweet potato spread on a slice of bread and then toast them together. As for how much spread you're supposed to use, that's up to you. Once again referring to the official product description, Don Quijote says that using a conservative amount will produce a crisp texture after toasting, while a thicker slathering will retain a moister, more substantial consistency, so P.K. decided to do one slice in each style. The directions say to toast the bread until it browns but doesn't burn. Once the slices achieved that enticing color, P.K. pulled them out of the toaster oven and plated them. Starting with the lightly spread slice, P.K. was a little underwhelmed. Though it had a pleasant sweet potato aroma, the flavor was modest and subdued. Not bad, but not really the sort of thing that he felt he'd be putting into his regular snack rotation. But then… …it was time to taste the second slice, the one he'd applied a thicker layer of the sweet potato spread to. This was exactly what he'd been hoping for, full of deliciously sweet sweet potato flavor…and it was about to get even better. As mentioned above, using less spread results in a crisper texture, which P.K. actually enjoys, but the flavor is a lot better with the thicker spread. Just when he thought he was going to have to compromise on his precise preferences, though, something wonderful happened: the outer layer of the thicker spread developed some extra crispiness as it more fully caramelized from the residual heat from its time in the toaster oven. P.K. now had a slice with the best flavor and most satisfying texture, so he recommends using a thick layer of spread, then letting it sit for a minute or so after coming out of the toaster before you dig in. P.K.'s still not sure how he missed the announcement for Spread It and Toast It and It'll be Just Like a Sweet Potato Spread, or how he failed to notice it in the several months it's been on the market since. Still, as they, or, um, as we say, it's better to be late to the sweet potato party than to never show up at all, and between this and our new DIY melon bread-making skills, we're probably going to need to make another bread run very soon.
