Rapper Tory Lanez Rushed to Hospital After Prison Yard Incident
Rapper Tory Lanez's week got off to a bad start Monday morning when he was reportedly stabbed in prison. Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence in California for the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion. According to TMZ, he was in the yard at the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi earlier today when another inmate stabbed him. "It's unclear what the motivation was for the attack, but one source tells us Tory was rushed by ambulance to a nearby civilian hospital in Bakersfield," said TMZ, which added that the rapper's injuries are said to be "non-life threatening." Lanez recently shared a photo of himself behind bars, and in March, released PETERSON, his eighth LP and a project recorded entirely while in prison. "An album that's recorded in prison, for prisoners, by a prisoner in real time as a prisoner is going through his real-time sentence," Lanez said. "And it's professional. It's going to sound exactly like a Tory Lanez album... The pain is there, the hunger is there. You know, the tears, the cries are there. It's a lot of emotion into it, but it's the first ever professionally recorded prison album. This has never been done before.' While the Canadian entertainer has been locked up for his role in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting, he and the "Savage" rapper are still battling in court, with Megan claiming Lanez has been using internet bloggers to stalk and smear her. As of now, we don't know any real details about today's stabbing incident, but it seems like Lanez was fortunate, if the initial reports are correct. We'll keep you posted if any additional information is released.

Is Tory Lanez OK?!
The week just started, but already Canadian rapper Tory Lanez is having a bad one. Fans and critics are wondering if Lanez is OK after he was involved in an incident inside the California prison he's serving time at. On Monday (May 12) morning, Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was reportedly in the yard of California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi. But instead of enjoying his scheduled time in the yard, Lanez was taken to a hospital after another inmate stabbed him, according to TMZ. The motivation behind the attack remains unclear at the time of this publishing. But according to a source for TMZ, the 32-year-old was wheeled to a Bakersfield hospital, outside of the prison. Although TMZ reported Lanez's injuries are not life-threatening, many folks online rushed to his defense. The hashtag #FreeTory even began to trend on X. 'No matter what those DEMONS try to do to him, Tory will prevail! Send your prayers and love please,' @ComeWithFacts tweeted along with #JusticeforTory and #FreeTory hashtags. @horriblemercy even accused Roc Nation of being behind the stabbing. They wrote, 'Roc Nation must've seen that release date, appeal been looking too good.' Other folks online didn't have any nice things to say on the matter. 'Tory Lanez got stabbed and it's sunny outside it's gonna be a good week,' @jul13an wrote. Another user, @nicole13209 called out the musician's fans saying, 'So…Tory lanez gets stabbed and it's 'guys he's still human omg prayers up for him' but when Megan gets shot it's conspiracies and 'get up on your good foot' ???' News of the 'Say It' rapper's attack comes just one week after he posted a picture of himself in prison clothes. By the looks of the photo, Lanez has been working out big time, gaining some serious muscles. Outside of just working out, Lanez has also been releasing music from behind bars. His last project, titled 'PETERSON,' was released in March. Lanez announced a new album is also on the way. Lanez was sentenced to 10 years at a state prison for shooting Texas rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. Despite Lanez being behind bars, him and Megan— real name Megan Pete— are still battling each other in court. As The Root previously reported, the 'Mamushi' rapper previously accused Lanez of starting a smear campaign against her. She also sued blogger Milagro 'Gramz' Cooper for defamation, cyberstalking, and emotional distress after Gramz allegedly conspired with Lanez to spread lies about her. Tory Lanez Thanks Chris Brown For Supporting Him Financially While Incarcerated
Tory Lanez and Chris Brown's support for one another is still going strong as Lanez revealed in a new song that Breezy helped him out financially, while incarcerated. The Toronto star dropped his new album PETERSON today (March 7) — recorded entirely from prison — where he shouted out his frequent collaborator on the track 'T.D.F x LA County Jail (feat. DSTNY).' On the song, Lanez expressed gratitude to Brown for stepping up when none of his other industry friends offered financial assistance. 'Where was you ni**as when I was in Cali fed up with no covers to bundle up? / Only real ni**a that helped me was Chris Brown, that really my brother, bruh,' he raps. He expanded on this sentiment even further in the album's closing track 'Free Tory,' where he said, 'I had no real, like, access to my funds. I was fed up and my lawyer wanted over, like, a quarter million to represent me for the appeal. So, you know, I start hollering at all my rap friends, my celebrity friends, and nobody was there.' He added, 'Ni**as treating me like I was dead and this ni**a Chris Brown — I'll never forget it — this ni**a Chris Brown came out of nowhere. He just gave me the money. He said, 'Look, bro, when you get outside, holla at me. Hope you come home.' That a real ni**a, bro.' Listen below. Elsewhere on the 20-track album, the 32-year-old recalls the day he received his verdict in his shooting case with Megan Thee Stallion — to which he was found guilty on all felony counts. Lanez broke down his perspective of how his former lawyer, Shawn Holley, didn't do him justice and was 'in bed with the opposition.' 'Shawn Holley, that's a name I would call special/ Only a special person could rep you and wanna dead you/ Go to your DNA expert and say don't test you/ You fully excluded, but inconclusive is what she tells you,' he raps on 'Verdict Day x Layer Fees Interlude.' He continues, 'The DA's first offer was nine years/ The second, it was six at eighty-five, about five years/ My lawyer keep on pressin' me to take it, I'm like, 'Nah'/ I ain't do the crime, so I'ma sit it down right here.' Lanez also admitted that he trusted her because she was a Black woman, but alleged that she was, 'Workin' for my accuser and workin' for me/ All the information I give her is at ROC.' Lanez claimed that Holley was working with Roc Nation, Meg's management, and 'As soon as I realized, you saw it comin'/ You started to look back on your tracks and got 'em covered/ You knew that I found out what you did right before the trial/ You quit before I fired you and did it with a smile.' He concluded the track with a voicemail from Holley explaining her lawyer fees to him where she gives the ultimatum of him paying $900,000 or staying in prison. 'Mr. Peterson, I'm gonna be as frank with you as possible with you here, okay?' she can be heard saying. 'My fee is not negotiable. At the end of the day, it's either $900K or you can stay where you're at. The ball's in your court.' Listen to 'Verdict Day x Layer Fees Interlude' above and stream the full album below.
