Falcons offensive coordinator named future head coaching candidate
In 2024, the Atlanta Falcons hired former Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach and passing-game coordinator Zac Robinson as their new offensive coordinator. Falcons head coach Raheem Morris saw Robinson's potential while the two worked together in Los Angeles, and he made sure to bring the young assistant with him to Atlanta. After working with Super Bowl-winning quarterback Matthew Stafford on the Rams, Robinson got the chance to coach both Kirk Cousins and Michael Penix Jr. last season with the Falcons. The first-year offensive coordinator showed a ton of promise. Both wide receiver Drake London and running back Bijan Robinson had breakout seasons. If he has another successful year as Atlanta's play-caller in 2025, Robinson may find himself with a head coaching gig. Pro Football Sports Network analyst Jacob Infante named Robinson as one of 32 future head coaching candidates in a new feature. PFSN names Robinson future head coach candidate: Like Arizona, the Atlanta Falcons started incredibly hot but cooled off as the 2024 season continued. Part of that was due to Zac Robinson's performance as their offensive play-caller. Robinson, 38, comes from the highly regarded Sean McVay tree, having been the Rams' passing game coordinator in 2022 and 2023 before his promotion in Atlanta. He has a big opportunity to become a strong head coaching candidate if the Falcons' passing game performs well with Michael Penix Jr. now under center. -- Jacob Infante, PFSN While Cousins got off to a good start, his play fell off drastically after he suffered an injury during a Week 10 loss to the Saints. Penix eventually replaced the struggling veteran in Week 16 and played surprising well for a rookie. Atlanta's offense became more explosive the moment Penix entered the lineup, and Robinson deserves credit for having the young quarterback ready to play. Plus, unlike during the three previous seasons under head coach Arthur Smith, the offense did a good job of utilizing the team's personnel. The Falcons offense should be among the NFL's top units this season. Robinson's presence is a big reason for those expectations. With another good year under his belt, don't be surprised to see Robinson go the route of former Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in 2026. Steelers Projected as Possible Landing Spot for Six-Time Pro Bowl Receiver
Steelers Projected as Possible Landing Spot for Six-Time Pro Bowl Receiver originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After the sudden retirement of Mike Williams, there's a good chance that Keenan Allen returns to the franchise that he called home for 11 seasons with the now-Los Angeles Chargers. But if he doesn't, why not Pittsburgh? Allen established himself very quickly as a force in the NFL during his rookie season when he posted 71 catches for 1,046 yards and eight touchdowns. He finished second in AP Offensive Rookie of the Year voting. Since then, the former Cal product has made six Pro Bowls while totaling 11,274 yards on 974 catches and scored 66 touchdowns across 12 years. Allen is 33, but still has a lot to offer a team that needs a veteran presence in the room. That could be why PFSN thinks the Steelers are a good landing spot for the top free agent wideout on the market right now. "Keenan Allen didn't have a bad year in 2024 by any means; it just wasn't up to his standard," PFSN wrote. "He finished with a career low in yards per game in his lone season in Chicago. However, he still finished top 50 in all key receiving categories with 70 catches, 744 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. At 33 years old, Allen isn't the athlete he once was, and he wasn't ever an elite speedster at his peak. However, he's still an incredibly smart slot receiver who knows how to work himself open. "There's still plenty of value he can bring as a No. 3 receiver for a playoff contender, assuming he doesn't just jump back in with the Chargers." Bengals Trade Trey Hendrickson for Disappointing Haul in Proposed Deal
Bengals Trade Trey Hendrickson for Disappointing Haul in Proposed Deal originally appeared on Athlon Sports. On Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter posted a confusing report about alleged progress made between Trey Hendrickson and the Cincinnati Bengals for a contract extension. Hendrickson has been clear about his stance not to play the final year of his current deal, which would pay him $16 million. He even posted a video of himself driving out of Ohio while headed to Florida. Schefter reported that the team and the player now have a framework deal in place but are being held up by a "big disagreement" in guarantees in the contract. If that's the case, then they don't have a framework deal in place. The situation is growing closer and closer to the Bengals having to trade Hendrickson. And PFSN predicted a trade to the Detroit receive: EDGE Trey Hendrickson Bengals receive: 2026 2nd-round pick, 2026 5th-round pick "The Detroit Lions boasted an elite defense (5th in PFSN's Defense+ metric) for much of last season despite playing without Aidan Hutchinson, who suffered a season-ending leg injury. However, they faltered late, failing to register a sack or a takeaway in their playoff loss," PFSN wrote. "Detroit's non-blitz pressure rate in that game was a season low, highlighting how much they missed Hutchinson's disruptive presence. With Hutchinson now cleared for activities but returning from a significant setback, the Lions need a proven pass rusher to avoid a repeat scenario. "Trey Hendrickson stands out as a premier edge rusher after ranking first in sacks (17.5) last season, per Pro Football Reference. He also finished sixth in pressure rate among all players with at least 200 pass-rush snaps, earning his first All-Pro selection." PFSN ranks all 32 NFL offenses (including the Broncos)
Pro Football Network recently released an article ranking the top NFL offenses going into the 2025 NFL season. The Detroit Lions take up the No. 1 spot, while the Cleveland Browns, deservedly, take last place while they find a way to sort through their mess. But the Denver Broncos aren't too high, nor too low: according to PFSN, they are just right at No. 16. PFSN's Kyle Soppe loves the Bo Nix-Sean Payton marriage, but wonders if it can make a similar jump the Baltimore Ravens took under offensive coordinator Todd Monken. 'In Year 1 of the Sean Payton/Bo Nix marriage, the Denver Broncos' Offense+ ranking moved up seven spots and improved their numerical grade by 10.8 points," Soppe wrote for PFSN. "The Ravens were potent in Year 1 under Todd Monken and elite in Year 2 — could the Broncos follow that trajectory? It's not likely, but it's within the range of outcomes. With some plus-matchups after Thanksgiving, Denver could peak at the right time and build on what was a surprisingly positive 2024.' A middle-of-the-pack ranking seems fair going into the summer. Denver will look to improve on that ranking this fall, starting with a Week 1 showdown with the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 7 (view the full schedule). Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.
