Logistics management was deciding factor in success of Op Sindoor: Rajnath Singh

Vadodara: Logistics management was a key factor in the success of Operation Sindoor , said defence minister Rajnath Singh while addressing the third convocation ceremony of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) virtually on Sunday. The event was presided over by Ashwini Vaishnaw, the first Chancellor of GSV and also the union minister for railways, information and broadcasting, and electronics and IT. Singh emphasised that in today's era, wars are won not just with guns and bullets, but through the timely delivery of resources—citing Operation Sindoor as an excellent example of effective logistics management. "The speed at which the world is changing is both impressive and startling. The defence sector is also transforming, and we are witnessing major shifts in the methods of warfare," he said. The union minister stated that managing logistics effectively determines a country's fate on the battlefield, with victory or defeat often depending on it. "Logistics management was a deciding factor in the success of Operation Sindoor. The way various agencies handled logistics—from mobilising our armed forces to delivering required material at the right place and time—proved crucial," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Real-Time Conversations in 68 Languages? AI Just Made It Possible Enence 2.0 Undo He underscored that logistics should not be viewed merely as the movement of goods but as a strategically vital sector. "It is logistics that turns a location into a battlefield. Without it, it becomes a zone of confusion. Arms and ammunition have no meaning if they don't reach the right place at the right time. The stronger our logistics management, the stronger our borders," Singh added. "Today, power is not measured only by weapons but by timely resource management. Whether in war, disaster, or a global pandemic, it has been proven that a nation with a strong logistics chain is the most stable, secure, and capable," he said. Explaining the importance of logistics for the armed forces, Singh said it ensures timely delivery of weapons, fuel, rations, and medicines to remote areas for the Army; spare parts and equipment to ships for the Navy; and ground support and uninterrupted fuel supply for the Air Force. "Just imagine, if we have advanced missile systems but the electronics required to launch them do not arrive in time, then that technology becomes useless," he said, stressing that the 'PM Gati Shakti' initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an extension of the idea of integrated logistics. GSV vice chancellor Vaishnaw highlighted the institute's achievements, stating, "In just two and a half years, the university has collaborated with leading companies, giving students the opportunity to gain real-world, applied knowledge." He added that GSV has gained recognition from the World Economic Forum and will now focus on the marine sector—particularly shipping and ports. He also stressed the increasing need for engineers in infrastructure development, especially in bridges and tunnels. GSV, he announced, will launch an M Tech course in bridge and tunnel engineering and will set up a Centre of Excellence in the same field, where experts can specialise in design and maintenance. A total of 194 students from B Tech, BBA, and MBA programmes were awarded degrees at the convocation ceremony.

Logistics management was deciding factor in success of Op Sindoor: Rajnath

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said logistics management by various agencies was a deciding factor in the success of Operation Sindoor launched by the Indian armed forces in May, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan post the Pahalgam attack. Singh was addressing students and faculty members virtually at the 3rd convocation ceremony of Vadodara-based Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, a university under the Ministry of Railways. "The speed at which the world is changing is both impressive and shocking. The defence sector is also transforming, and major changes are being witnessed in the methods of warfare. In today's era, wars are not won by guns and bullets alone, but by their time-bound delivery," the minister said. Singh stressed that the handling of logistics decides a country's fate on the battlefield. Victory and defeat are decided by logistics, and the whole world had witnessed this during Operation Sindoor, he said. "Logistics management was a deciding factor in the success of Operation Sindoor. The way various agencies managed logistics right from mobilisation of our armed forces to delivering the required material at the right place at the right time has proved to be a deciding factor in the success of the operation," Singh said. He said logistics should not be seen only as a process of delivering goods, but must be considered a strategically important sector. "It is logistics that makes a battlefield a battlefield. Without logistics, it will become a confusion zone. There is no meaning if arms and ammunition don't reach the right place at the right time during a war. The stronger our logistics management is, the stronger our borders will be," he said. "Today, we are in a time where power is not measured only by weapons, but by timely resource management. Be it war, disaster or global pandemic, it has been proven that a nation which keeps its logistics chain strong is the most stable, secure and capable," he said. For the Army, logistics means that weapons, fuel, rations and medicines reach remote areas without delay, and for the Navy, it is important to ensure that spare parts and other equipment are available to the ships in time, Singh said. "And, it is important for our Air Force to ensure that the jets continue their flights without any hindrance with the help of ground support and uninterrupted fuel supply. Just imagine, if we have advanced missile systems but the electronics needed to launch them don't arrive in time, then that technology is of no use," the minister said. He said the 'PM Gati Shakti' initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an extension of the idea of logistics integration. Under this initiative, a multi-modal logistics ecosystem is being created by integrating modes of transport such as roads, railways, waterways and air transport, Singh said.

Karnataka identifies Karikad in Mangaluru for multimodal logistics park

Mangaluru (Karnataka), Jul 25(PTI) As part of its ambitious Industrial Policy 2025-30, the Karnataka government has identified Karikad near Mangaluru as a key location for developing a world-class multimodal logistics park to facilitate freight movement and industrial growth, officials said on Friday. S Selvakumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Commerce and Industries Department, said that Karikad's strategic proximity to the Mangaluru Port, railway infrastructure, and national highways makes it an ideal site. 'The park will serve as a crucial node in the state's logistics corridor, connecting coastal Karnataka with the hinterland," he noted. Speaking at the CII Mangaluru Infrastructure and Logistics Summit here, Selvakumar said the proposed park is expected to ease freight transport, reduce turnaround time for goods movement, and provide dedicated infrastructure to support Karnataka's growing manufacturing and export sectors. Selvakumar visited the site along with senior officials from the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), New Mangalore Port Authority, and other departments to assess feasibility. According to officials, the government is working closely with various stakeholders to ensure the development aligns with global logistics standards and environmental norms. The park is also expected to create employment opportunities and attract private investment in the warehousing and logistics sectors. The project falls under the Centre's PM Gati Shakti scheme and is aimed at improving overall supply chain efficiency. Senior officials said land acquisition and project design will begin soon, and the government plans to expedite clearances to enable early implementation. India On Track To Become Third-Largest Economy By 2028: Morgan Stanley

India is expected to more than double its GDP to $10.6 trillion by 2035, and three-five states might approach the $1 trillion GDP mark, says Morgan Stanley. India is on track to become the world's third-largest economy by 2028 and more than double its GDP to $10.6 trillion by 2035, according to the latest report by Morgan Stanley released on Wednesday. The report also highlighted the pivotal role that Indian states will play in steering this economic transformation. It said that by 2035, three to five Indian states — including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka — are projected to approach the $1 trillion GDP mark, putting them among the world's top 20 economies in their own right. 'Based on the latest data, the top three states are Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Telangana," the report noted. It further highlighted Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh as the states that have shown the most significant improvement in economic rankings over the past five years. Over the next decade, India is expected to contribute 20% to global growth, becoming a major engine for earnings among multinational corporations, the report said. Morgan Stanley economists emphasized the importance of India's 28 states and eight Union Territories in achieving this ambitious growth. 'States not only manage their own finances but also compete for investments by designing policies and easing business conditions. Ultimately, every factory or business is set up in a specific state," the report stated. The report credited the progress to 'competitive federalism," where states operate with significant legislative and political autonomy, enabling them to frame their own industrial policies and compete for investments. The success of this model, it added, will determine India's rise as a global manufacturing hub, its ability to double per capita income within seven years, and whether it can sustain its capital market momentum. Over the last decade, India has significantly increased infrastructure investment. The Centre's capital expenditure has risen from 1.6% of GDP in FY15 to 3.2% in FY25, spurring major improvements in transportation and logistics. Highway networks have expanded by 60%, the number of airports has doubled, and metro systems have grown fourfold. These developments have been driven by major central schemes such as PM Gati Shakti, the National Infrastructure Pipeline, Bharatmala, Sagarmala, and UDAN, which have been executed alongside state-led initiatives. States also lead infrastructure spending in areas like power, water, and urban development. 'The Centre and states must continue to collaborate closely to meet India's economic ambitions," the report concluded. India has already surpassed Japan to become the world's fourth-largest economy according to IMF data, NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam announced in May 2025. According to the IMF, India's GDP is currently $4.187 trillion, overtaking Japan's $4.186 trillion. Meanwhile, a recent report by JP Morgan said India has emerged as a relatively safe haven among emerging markets (EMs) amid global trade uncertainties. The report highlighted that India is benefiting from a combination of falling inflation, improved system liquidity, and lower government borrowing, which are expected to support economic growth. The report adds that India is expected to post the highest GDP growth among countries in JP Morgan's global universe in 2025. Growth is also being supported by timely demand stimulus and measures that have strengthened urban household balance sheets. In addition, a recovery in the rural economy, further aided by a favourable monsoon, is adding to the positive outlook. It stated, 'India: Falling inflation, enhanced system liquidity and lower borrowing to boost growth. Timely demand stimulus and support to urban household balance sheet". JP Morgan's emerging markets strategists are constructive on several emerging market countries, including India, Korea, Brazil, Philippines, UAE, Greece, and Poland. Among these, India holds a 19 per cent weight in the MSCI EM Index and has been rated 'Overweight" (OW) by JP Morgan. tags : indian economy view comments Location : New Delhi, India, India First Published: July 23, 2025, 17:55 IST News business » economy India On Track To Become Third-Largest Economy By 2028: Morgan Stanley Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
