Victim of fatal Summit Township van fire identified
(WJET/WFXP)– The Erie County Coroner has released the name of the man who died in a vehicle fire Monday night in Summit Township. The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Deepak Pakhring, who immigrated to Erie from Bhutan, with Erie County Lyell Cook saying no foul play is suspected, but he was alive when the vehicle caught fire. PSP Erie investigating fatal car fire in Summit Township Crews were called to that vehicle fire around 9:46 p.m. near the crossroads of Pennbriar Drive and Schultz Road on Memorial Day, with the van in a ditch off the side of the road. Minibike crash leaves one injured Monday night
A crash involving a car and a mini bike sent one person to the hospital Memorial Day evening. The accident was reported just before 6:30 Monday night at the intersection of Cole Drive and Helen Road. PSP Erie releases Memorial Day weekend DUI checkpoint results According to Millcreek Township police, the operator of the mini bike was taken to the hospital by ambulance. There's no word on the extent of the injuries but police on scene said they did not appear to be life threatening. The cause of the accident is under investigation Monday night. State police conducting DUI checkpoints Memorial Day weekend
(WJET/WFXP)– The unofficial start to summer in Memorial Day weekend is nearly here and Pennsylvania State Police are reminding drivers to stay sober behind the wheel. Troopers from PSP Erie will be out all of Memorial Day weekend, conducting DUI checkpoints with roving patrols throughout the county. Erie Humane Society Animal Cruelty investigating three abandoned animal cases Police are reminding anyone planning on drinking to designate a sober driver, which includes prescription and illegal drugs, as they continue to see drivers get behind the wheel while under the influence. During last year's checkpoint, troopers from PSP Erie arrested five people for DUI, issued 26 traffic citations to go with 46 verbal/written warnings and one drug arrest. Part of Pittsburgh Ave. to close again for repairs Pennsylvania-wide, there were 756 crashes, 46 of which were DUI-related, that killed six people and injured another 181 on Memorial Day weekend. Elderly Erie couple scammed out of over $9,000: PSP
Pennsylvania State Police said an Erie man and woman in their 70s were robbed of thousands of dollars after falling victim to a phishing scam. According to PSP Erie, one of the victims had gotten an email from who they believed was Netflix. Ashtabula Co. Sheriff warning of numerous scams in area, impersonation scam stopped That email stated that there was an issue with their billing, and to click a link allowing for remote access to their computer to fix it. The scammer then proceeded to get the victim to open their bank account and got them to withdraw $30,000 from banks across Erie County to be sent to Netflix via Bitcoin. Three-year drug investigation in Chautauqua Co. ends in 2 lb. meth bust Almost $9,000 was transferred before a Bitcoin machine in the City of Erie jammed up.
