Winners of art contest announced
Pakistan National Council of Arts has announced the winners of the National Youth Art Competition 2025 organised by its Visual Arts Division. This annual event celebrates the creativity and talent of young Pakistani artists, providing them with a national platform to showcase their skills and compete with their peers. Renowned calligrapher Humayun Bangash, who also presented awards to the winners, inaugurated the show. Former Ambassador to Japan, Farukh Amil, and PNCA Director General Ayoub Jamali were also present on the occasion. The National Youth Art Competition and Exhibition were announced in July 2025 under the themes "Bunyanum Marsoos" and "Marka-i-Haq", received an overwhelming response from young artists. Nationwide, more than 300 submissions were received, each reflecting deep patriotism and a love for the country, along with heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers safeguarding Pakistan's borders. Top prize winners received cash awards: first prize of Rs40,000 went to Arina Khan, second prize of Rs30,000 to Amna Wajahat, and third prize of Rs20,000 to Syeda Wajeeha Fatima. Honourable mentions, each receiving Rs5,000, were awarded to Saleha Naseem, Urooj Saleem, Noorul Fajar, Mishal Mahsud, Abeeha Humayun, M. Hassan Ali, and Amna Bibi. All participating artists were awarded certificates in recognition of their creativity and dedication. In line with this year, Pakistan 78th Independence Day celebrations, the art competition and exhibition carried the banner of "Marka-i-Haq" (Battle of Truth) symbolising Pakistan's resilience, progress and national pride. The initiative served as a heartfelt tribute to the courage, sacrifice and patriotism of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

Exhibit showcases Japan's beauty
ISLAMABAD: The former Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan, Farukh Amil's photo exhibition "Beautiful Japan – Through the Eyes of an Ambassador," featuring a collection of Japan's culture, people, landscapes, and technological advancements, was opened at the Pakistan National Council of Arts on Friday. Secretary, National Heritage and Culture Division Secretary Hassan Nasir Jamy, and Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, H.E. Akamatsu Shuichi inaugurated the show. Amil, who played an important role in strengthening diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Japan, captured these images during his tenure in Japan, reflecting the beauty and intricacies of Japanese life. The exhibition, featuring around 40 selected photographs, aims not only to showcase the beauty of Japanese society and culture but also to reinforce the ties between Japan and Pakistan fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Japan's rich heritage and contemporary society among Pakistani audiences. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Ambassador Shuichi expressed his admiration for Amil's work, noting that his deep understanding of Japanese society is evident in the photographs, as each photograph is a testament to Amil's keen eye and deep affection for Japan. As Japan's Ambassador to Pakistan, he is delighted to see Japan through the lens of someone who knows our country so well, he added. "I believe this exhibition powerfully connects our two nations. It allows us to share Japan's beauty and complexity with the people of Pakistan, fostering deeper understanding and appreciation. It reminds us that despite the distance, we share the values, respect for traditions, love of beauty, and appreciation for the human experience", remarked Ambassador Shuichi. Faruk's talent was even recognised in Japan where he won the prestigious Grand Prix in the Ambassador's Photo Exhibition competition. The exhibition will remain open to the public until 19th February. The gallery is closed on Saturday (today).

Festival brings European culture to Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: Thousands of participants gathered at the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) on Saturday to enjoy the vibrant "EuroVillage" festival, organised by the Delegation of the European Union in collaboration with the EU Member States. The event provided a unique opportunity for the residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi to immerse themselves in European culture and heritage through music, food, and interactive experiences. In her welcome remarks, the Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan, Dr Riina Kionka noted, "We celebrate the diverse cultures and identities that enrich Europe, forming the foundation of our shared values and our relations with the world, including Pakistan. Together, we are stronger, and our partnership in development, trade and political engagement reflects this commitment." In its sixth edition, EuroVillage offered an afternoon of culture, music and culinary delights. The festival featured a variety of engaging activities, including information displays from the EU and Member States, live performances, fun games and an array of food options. Visitors had the chance to connect with the Team Europe, learn about the diverse areas of collaboration between the European Union and Pakistan. The festival also showcased the positive impact of the EU on Pakistani communities. Attendees explored development cooperation booths, where beneficiaries shared personal stories illustrating how EU initiatives enrich their lives. This hands-on engagement emphasised the message that the EU and Pakistan are "Stronger Together" through their partnership. The event also featured live performances by both European and Pakistani artists and performers, including Farhan Saeed. The EuroVillage festival was co-organised by the diplomatic missions of the European Union alongside those of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and others.
