Recording-breaking cards and Willie Mays' personal collection: What you'll find at The National
Walking shoes and wallets. Don't attend the country's biggest and most well known sports card and collectibles show this week without them. The 45th annual National Sports Collectors Convention, often referred to simply as 'The National,' will open its doors Wednesday at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois, anticipating at least 100,000 people in attendance for the five-day event. Advertisement The show will present more than 600 dealers for buying, selling and trading cards or memorabilia, including large displays from some of the hobby's most notable power players like Topps/Fanatics, Panini, Upper Deck, eBay, Goldin, Heritage, PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) and others. Also nearly 200 current or former athletes and celebrities will hold autograph sessions and photo opportunities. Featured signers include current stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo (and all his brothers), Pete Crow-Armstrong, Kyle Tucker and Shota Imanaga to hall of famers like Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Ray Lewis, Lawrence Taylor, Mariano Rivera, Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz, Julius Erving, Allen Iverson and Patrick Ewing to eventual Hall of Famers like Albert Pujols, Miguel Cabrera and Adrian Peterson. 'It's pandemonium,' Mark Laird of Las Vegas based Paradise Card Breaks said. 'If you're brand new to The National, it's a little overwhelming, and you'll never see everything. Even if you're there for four days, you still won't see everything. Expect to be overwhelmed, expect to have crowds in front of booths. So have a game plan, know who you want to see and where you want to go.' While, baseball, basketball, and football cards still command the lion's share of interest from sports card collects, some new categories are emerging in a big way that is likely to be reflected on the show floor this year. During the first half of this year, searches rose for WNBA cards (170 percent), WWE cards (more than 50 percent), and F1 cards (more than 50 percent) compared to the same time last year, according to eBay. Combine that with the massive rise in popularity of Pokemon cards that is commanding more and more space at sports card shows and this edition of The National could contain its most diverse array of collectibles yet. Advertisement Here's a snapshot of what some of the more prominent companies within the hobby will present at The National: Heritage Potentially the most expensive basketball card ever will be showcased by the auction house. The one-of-a-kind Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant 2007-08 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Dual Logoman (the NBA logo patch from each of their game-worn jerseys) autographed patch card will be on display and is currently up for auction, ending in late August. The price currently stands at $3.4 million with the buyer's premium, meaning it will be the most expensive basketball card publicly sold. The all-time record for any basketball card sale is currently held by a one-of-one Stephen Curry 2009 Panini National Treasures Logoman autographed patch card that sold for $5.9 million in a private sale. That record seems likely to fall too. History in the making! 26 days of bidding left . . . 👀 — Heritage Auctions Sports (@Heritage_Sport) July 28, 2025 eBay The online marketplace will feature 'The Hunt,' where collectors can search for 50 cards (each card ranging from $100-$500) hidden across the convention floor. Each day of the convention, eBay will reveal 10 new cards up for grabs. Other activities within the eBay booth include the 'Grade Your Grail' challenge to see how well you can grade a trading card's condition and the chance to shoot baskets to win eBay Collector Packs or unlock access to the 'search bar' to scour for cards you're chasing. The eBay Live stage will feature former athletes and celebrities like Dwight Howard and Rob Gronkowski to join the booth for sports card breaks with top sellers. There will also be panels with notable sports figures to discuss sports and the hobby. Goldin The auction house will showcase some of the most iconic trading cards and memorabilia in the hobby at both their booth and the eBay booth. Most notably, Goldin will highlight the Caitlin Clark Immaculate one-of-a-kind autographed Logowoman patch card inscribed 'ROY 24' from the 2024 Panini WNBA Rookie Royalty set. Caitlin Clark's rookie card reaches new heights for women's sports
The post Caitlin Clark's rookie card reaches new heights for women's sports appeared first on ClutchPoints. It's no secret that Caitlin Clark is the face of the WNBA right now, as the second-year pro is the most talked-about player in the league. So much so that her rookie card just made history for how much it sold recently. The Indiana Fever star set new heights for women's sports in general. Caitlin Clark's rookie card sold for a whopping $660,000, according to Yahoo Sports. It's a unique 1/1 card and is officially the highest-priced card in all of women's sports. 'The 1/1 Caitlin Clark Panini Flawless WNBA Rookie Logowoman Patch sold for a record $660K at the Fanatics Collect auction. It's the highest-selling women's sports trading card of ALL-TIME.' The 23-year-old guard continues to make waves, not just in the WNBA, but in women's sports altogether. Caitlin Clark's rookie card, selling for $660,000, is just another example of her superstardom. In 2024, the Fever star was projected to be responsible for nearly 27% of the revenue increase the league saw once she was drafted by the Fever. That includes attendance, merchandise sales, and broadcast views. However, this season has been a bit rough for the 2024 Rookie of the Year. Caitlin Clark has dealt with several injuries, and right now her timetable for return is unknown. The Fever is said to be focusing more on her long-term health, so there is a chance we don't see Clark in action for several more games. When healthy, Clark has looked like the superstar she has been since her days in college. So far this season, Caitlin Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game while shooting 36.7% from the field and 27.9% from beyond the arc. But she has only played in 13 games this year after suffering a left quad strain and two separate groin injuries. The Fever will be back in action on Sunday, July 27, when they take on the Chicago Sky. Caitlin Clark is still working her way back from injury, and expectations are that she will miss that contest. However, the organization will likely provide an official update the closer the game approaches. Caitlin Clark breaks own record with one-of-a-kind rookie card auction sell
Caitlin Clark continued her record-setting ways this week. As the Indiana Fever star guard continues to navigate back from a right groin injury, Clark had reason to smile on Thursday night. In the latest illustration of her superstardom, Clark reset her own off-the-court record. On Thursday, one of Clark's rookie cards sold for $660,000 on the Fanatics Collect auction site. It's by far the most ever paid for a women's sports card and it's nearly twice the amount garnered by the previous record holder, which was similarly a Clark rookie card. The new top seller is the 2024 Panini Instant Rookie Royalty WNBA Flawless Platinum Caitlin Clark Logowoman. It features a photo of Clark and a game-worn patch from her Fever uniform. The 1-of-1 numbered, autographed rookie card also has the written message "769 points and counting," referencing Clark's WNBA rookie record number of points scored. This record-setting card garnered 26 bids after extended bidding began at $336,000. It resets the record books after Clark's autographed 2024 Panini Prizm WNBA Gold Vinyl 1/1 was auctioned by Goldin for a then-record $366,000. Before that, the record amount garnered by a women's sports card was the $266,400 paid three years ago for a signed 2003 Serena Williams card. Caitlin Clark rookie card sells for $660,000, breaking women's sports card record
Last year, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark set records on the court. Now, thanks to her popularity, she is smashing them off the court too. An autographed 2024 Panini WNBA Rookie Royalty Flawless patch autographed one-of-one rookie card featuring sold for a record $660,000 through Fanatics Collect's July Premier auction on July 24. The $660,000 price tag is the highest ever paid for a card featuring a female athlete. The card features Clark's signature and the words '769 pts and counting," referring to her point total during the 2024 season, in which she won the Rookie of the Year award and was named to the first-team All-WNBA team. That broke the previous record in March when her 2024 Panini Prizm WNBA Signatures Gold Vinyl autograph rookie card fetched $366,000 through Goldin Auctions. Clark might not be done in the record-breaking card category. A 1-of-1 numbered, autographed Clark Logowoman is being featured at Goldin Auctions and currently sits at $180,000 ($219,600 with Buyer's Premium) and is set to enter auctioning on Aug. 9. Clark has dealt with calf and groin injuries in 2025, playing in only 13 of Indiana's 25 games. She is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and five rebounds this season.
