Ray Parlour says Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko has big weakness he must improve
Ray Parlour has been impressed by Arsenal transfer target Benjamin Sesko, but believes the youngster must improve in the air if he is to become the complete centre-forward. Arsenal are on the hunt for an out-and-out No.9 this summer after going a fifth successive season without winning a major trophy under Mikel Arteta. The Gunners' inactivity in January drew widespread criticism from supporters and pundits alike and injuries to both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz only intensified calls for the club to find a solution in the transfer market. It's understood RB Leipzig's Sesko, 22, has long been on Arsenal's radar, though the Slovenian's wage demands are said to have left the north Londoners' increasingly 'frustrated' in recent days. Arsenal have also encountered difficulties in pursuit of their other top target, Viktor Gyokeres, with the 27-year-old Sporting attacker threatening to go on strike to force through a switch to the Emirates. It's glaring at you,' ex-Arsenal midfielder Parlour told talkSPORT of the club's need for a top striker this summer. 'Sesko has got everything going for him. He's a young lad, he can improve, he's strong, he's quick. 'He's not great in the air, he can do better in the air probably, if I'm being honest. But he's on their radar.' Parlour is confident one of Sesko or Gyokeres will be starting up front for Arsenal at the start of next season. 'Gyokeres has obviously been linked to Manchester United, but it sounds like he wants to go to Arsenal,' the three-time Premier League winner added. 'I think it is going to be out of one of those strikers I should imagine.' Parlour is positive about Martin Zubimendi's impending arrival from Real Sociedad and expects Arsenal to explore the market for a winger to strengthen their options out wide. 'Zubimendi looks like he's going to be signed as well which gives Declan Rice a little bit more license to get forward,' he continued. '[Thomas] Partey is staying so he's another member in that squad who can play central midfield. 'But striker-wise, it's got to be one of those two and then hopefully they settle in straight away and they learn to play around the likes of [Bukayo] Saka and [Gabriel] Martinelli on the left, whoever it's going to be. 'I think they will go for another winger as well. 'I think that's quite important because when Saka was out last season, they did struggle a little bit and [Martin] Odegaard's game went a little bit.' According to Parlour, the Gunners have a 'great chance' of ending their long wait for a Premier League title next season – as long as they are 'a little luckier' with keeping key players fit. More Trending 'Liverpool deserved to win the league, there's no doubt about that, but they didn't get have a lot of injuries to key players,' he went on. 'I'm talking about Van Dijk, he's massive for Liverpool. Salah is massive for Liverpool and he didn't get injured too often, he played every week. 'So other teams got more injuries than Liverpool, but that's nothing against Liverpool because they deserved to win it. They were the best team in the league and the most consistent. 'But I think Arsenal have got to learn from last season and if they can get a little luckier with injuries, they've got a great chance again.' Who should Arsenal prioritise? Filet-O-Fish and salt & vinegar onion rings: a French dinner inspired by a Happy Meal
Poodle Bar & Bistro in Melbourne and Parlour in Sydney are both lively French restaurants with a cheeky sense of humour. So, when the two venues decided to team up for a special one-off dinner, the idea of a 'French Happy Meal' came to mind. This concept comes to life in a menu of Frenchy snacks and delicious crispy things, available for one night as part of Poodle x Parlour presented by QT, hosted by Good Food Events. The dinner happens on Thursday, June 26, at QT's ground floor diner, Parlour. Emma Dawson, who started at Poodle Bar & Bistro in Fitzroy as a junior sous chef and now leads the team as executive chef, will be showcasing some of the hatted restaurant's most iconic dishes. 'When you're cooking in another city, you want to show people exactly what you're about,' she says. One such dish is Poodle's steak tartare, which is topped with a soy-cured yolk for 'umami, savoury flavour' and a tarragon mayo, then showered in fried herbs. For this event, Dawson decided to add salt and vinegar onion rings to the side. 'They're a wicked little snack,' she says.

Arsenal urged to avoid transfer for £40m 'generation talent' seeking move
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta (Picture: Getty) Jack Grealish is set for pastures new after falling out of favour at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola. But Ray Parlour believes that Arsenal would be unwise to pursue a move for the England international and should learn from Raheem Sterling's failed loan spell at the Emirates. Grealish is set to leave City just four years after joining the club for £100million, a British record fee at the time. But the midfielder started just one league game in 2025 and was left out of City's squad for their final game of the season agaist Fulham. The 29-year-old has also been omitted from City's squad for the Club World Cup, clearing the way for him to find an exit ahead of the new season. Get personalised updates on Arsenal everyday Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link we'll send you so we can get football news tailored to you. Report suggest that City are willing to part ways with Grealish for just £40m, with several clubs in the Premier League and Europe already interested. Former teammate Shay Given believes that 'generational talent' Grealish still 'walks into any team in the country' and tipped the Englishman for a move to a fellow top-six side. Jack Grealish is set to leave Manchester City this summer (Picture: Getty) But former Arsenal midfielder Parlour believes that Grealish would not suit a move to the Gunners despite his obvious talent. 'Jack is a top player – I really rate him,' Parlour told Metro via Online Casino. 'Pep might have seen enough to say that he's not going to be playing week in, week out but whenever I've seen him, he's always made an impact and I'm sure quite a few clubs would be interested in him. 'Jack is getting to that age where he just needs to play regularly, so he should be looking to go to a place where he thinks he can start every single week. Whether that could be Arsenal is up in the air because (Gabriel) Martinelli came back into form towards the end of the season. Mikel Arteta has been warned off a move for Grealish (Picture: Getty) 'Arsenal, I'm sure would be interested if the deal was right for the club but there's quite a lot of good wingers out there and maybe Mikel should be looking for someone a bit younger and a bit more dynamic. Pressed where Grealish could instead move too, Parlour added: 'I'm sure there are lots and lots of clubs who would be interested but he has to be flexible. 'I would like to see him in the No10 role. I don't know whether he could go back to Villa or something like that. I really hope he stays in the Premier League because I love watching him every week.' 'Arsenal need three top signings this summer' Martin Zubimendi is close to joining Arsenal (Picture: Getty) While he does not see the upside in a move for Grealish, the Romford Pele is still keen for Arsenal to upgrade their attacking options out wide. 'A winger would still be great to cover (Bukayo) Saka and Martinelli, he added. More Trending 'That obviously let them down last year because when Saka was out, it affected (Martin) Odegaard's game and the injuries really cost them. I know everyone gets injuries, but Liverpool, who went on to win it, had all their key players fit for long periods.' Asked about who else the Gunners should target, he said: [A deal for Martin] Zubimendi appears to be getting closer, but the striker is the most important position for me. 'Obviously, (Benjamin) Sesko has been well linked and he looks a good, young player. Very strong, quick and knows where the back of the net is, so he'd be a great addition. 'But I think the club are behind Mikel and they will try and spend as much money as they are able to get the right players in. It's a very attractive club to come to, but second is no good for too much longer. They need to try and step up again.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Premier League legend backs Irish star to continue record-breaking haul at Royal Ascot
Royal Ascot is the pinnacle of the flat-racing season, with some of the world's best jockeys and trainers arriving in Berkshire for five days of top-notch horse-racing action. This year's event begins on Tuesday 17 June, with talent from Europe, Australia, Japan, the Middle East, and the United States all competing for a slice of the huge £10 million prize pot. And former Arsenal star and horse racing fanatic Ray Parlour believes Irishman Aidan O'Brien will extend his remarkable win rate at the famous meeting later this month. The Ballydoyle star is already the most successful trainer in Royal Ascot history with a record 91 winners. He scooped six wins at Royal Ascot last year, making him the leading trainer at the event - the 13th time he has achieved the feat in his career. 'Aidan O'Brien is the best flat trainer at the moment,' says Parlour. 'He has so many top horses in his stable who can win the sprints and longer distance races, so naturally, he's one to follow.' The ex-Gunner says he'll be focusing on Thursday's showpiece Gold Cup, where O'Brien will be looking to add to his record-breaking eight wins in the race. His horse Illinois is 7/5 favourite with NetBet Casino and Sport Ireland to triumph ahead of Candelari at 7/2 and Trawlerman at 21/5. Another O'Brien starter in the race is Jan Brueghel, priced at 26/5. 'Illinois is a good horse who may make it a very interesting race and could come out on top in the Gold Cup,' adds Parlour. The two highest-earning races are the Prince Of Wales's Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, with a whopping £1 million handed to the winner of each race. In the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, Lazzat is the 7/2 frontrunner, Inisherin at 24/5 and O'Brien's Storm Boy at 6/1. Ascot's opening race is also highly rewarding, with the winner taking home £750,000. With John and Thady Gosden as the trainers, Parlour plans to keep a close watch on Lead Artist, expecting Oisin Murphy to ride again. Just last month, Murphy guided Lead Artist to a thrilling victory at Newbury, where he narrowly defeated Dancing Gemini in the closing moments of the race. Now, the two horses are set for a rematch at Ascot, and Parlour is confident Murphy will replicate that winning performance in Berkshire. 'In the opening race at Ascot, Lead Artist is a horse I know won at Newbury and could go very well in the Queen Anne Stakes,' he says. Lead Artist is 26/5 with NetBet Casino and Sport Ireland to win the race, just behind Dancing Gemini at 9/2 and the favourite Rosallion at 7/2. Four-time FA Cup winner Parlour is also tipping jockey Ryan Moore for more success at this year's event. The 41-year-old has won the leading jockey title 10 times at Ascot and set a post-war record of nine winners for a single Royal Ascot meeting in 2015. 'Ryan Moore is such a great jockey, too, and he proves time and time again the quality he has in the saddle,' he said.
