Florida football's status in USA TODAY Sports re-rank after spring practice season

Florida football's status in USA TODAY Sports re-rank after spring practice season The college football spring season is well in the rearview mirror and the summer sessions are quickly approaching, which means the start of the collegiate gridiron action is merely months away. While there is still plenty of time for things to develop between now and the opening of the 2025 schedule, next season's national landscape is slowing coming into view. USA TODAY Sports writer Paul Myerberg recently published his re-ranking of all 136 Football Bowl Subdivision schools, which tallies each and every school from top to bottom based on what was seen during spring, including transfer portal activity. The Florida Gators, who have been steadily improving over the first three years of Billy Napier's tenure, made an appearance in Myerberg's top 25 this time around. According to the re-rank, the Orange and Blue land at No. 21, wedged between the No. 20 BYU Cougars and No. 22 Texas Tech Red Raiders. It also makes Napier's squad the seventh-best Southeastern Conference program in a season that promises to be yet another bruiser for the league. SEC teams in USA TODAY Sports' re-rank top 25 The SEC is represented by eight schools in the USA TODAY Sports re-rank top 25, headlined by the top-ranked Texas Longhorns, followed by the Georgia Bulldogs at No. 4, LSU Tigers at No. 7 and Alabama Crimson Tide at No. 10 to round out the top 10. The remainder of the teams among the upper echelon are the Tennessee Volunteers at No. 12, Ole Miss Rebels at No. 15, Florida Gators at No. 21 and Oklahoma Sooners in the final slot of the top 25. Where does Oklahoma land in latest USA TODAY Sports 1-136 re-rank?

Where does Oklahoma land in latest USA TODAY Sports 1-136 re-rank? The 2025 college football season may still be nearly four months away, but that hasn't stopped anyone from projecting what it will look like once we finally reach fall. The Oklahoma Sooners are ready to get the bad taste of 2024 out of their mouths with a statement season this year. USA TODAY Sports staff writer Paul Myerberg released the post-spring edition of his 1-136 re-rank for the 2025 season on Monday. Throughout the year, Myerberg ranks all 136 Division I FBS college football teams, updating it based on the week-to-week action of the college football season. But now that spring ball is behind us, we get our most recent update. After the 2024 season saw a massive wave of conference realignment and the introduction of the 12-team College Football Playoff, 2025 is a much quieter year on those fronts. The 12-team CFP is still in place for at least one more season, and the only realignment discussion involves the Pac-12. Despite last year's 6-7 mark, OU landed at No. 25 on Myerberg's list. The offseason additions of offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle and quarterback John Mateer have people believing Oklahoma will be much better than last year. Head coach Brent Venables is on thin ice this season at Oklahoma, and he's hoping his offseason moves will pay off. Myerberg has the Sooners as the eighth-best team in the SEC after spring ball. With most of the roster construction portion of college football's offseason beginning to wind down, it's time for Oklahoma to get better internally and improve on that standing when the time for games finally comes. Texas Longhorns top USA TODAY Sports post-spring practice 1-136 Re-Rank

With spring practice (and spring practice reports) ending across college football, many teams look very different than they did coming out of winter. Add the transfer portal to the picture and things have changed. USA TODAY Sports has a new 1-136 re-rank of all the teams in FBS. And they now have the Texas Longhorns No. 1. "Texas is No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports springtime college football re-rank as the hype continues to build around the Longhorns and new starting quarterback Arch Manning. After back-to-back College Football Playoff berths, including a trip to last year's national semifinals, Texas is poised to take the next step and capture the program's first championship since 2005." Paul Myerberg - USA TODAY Sports Certainly, the hype around Arch Manning is building. All of the reports out of the 40 Acres over the past few weeks have been nothing but glowing. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has hit the transfer portal hard to fill some key weaknesses. And there have been positive reports about the knee recover of running back CJ Baxter. Clemson, Penn State, Georgia and Notre Dame round out the top five. Ohio State, who have no named starting quarterback as of yet, check in at No. 6. The Buckeyes are followed by No. 7 LSU, No. 8 Oregon, No. 9 Miami, No. 10 Alabama. Rivals Oklahoma Sooners Texas A&M Aggies land at 25th and 30th respectively. Need a break? Check out where Auburn lands in USA TODAY Sports' post-spring re-rank

Check out where Auburn lands in USA TODAY Sports' post-spring re-rank How much stock is USA TODAY's Paul Myerberg putting into the Auburn Tigers this season? Auburn football's rough end to the 2024 season landed them in the bottom half of the final USA TODAY Sports re-rank at No. 86, falling behind many SEC programs and several in-state foes such as Jax State and South Alabama. USA TODAY's Paul Myerberg recently dropped his first re-rank of the season following the spring practice period. How much stock is he putting in the Tigers ahead of the summer months? Myerberg places Auburn at No. 35 following Auburn's spring session, one spot below Georgia Tech and one spot ahead of season-opening opponent, Baylor. The giant leap from No. 86 to No. 35 could be the result of Auburn's strong recruiting efforts in both the high school ranks and the transfer portal. Last offseason, Auburn rebuilt its quarterback room by adding Oklahoma transfer Jackson Arnold and Stanford transfer Ashton Daniels from the transfer portal, and signing five-star Deuce Knight. Cam Coleman and Malcolm Simmons return to the wide receiver corps while Eric Singleton, the top wide receiver from the transfer portal, joins the mix. Defensively, Auburn returns a stunning defensive backfield with Kayin Lee, Jay Crawford, and Kaleb Harris, while NFL first-round projection Keldric Faulk headlines the defensive line. Auburn is one of 11 SEC teams to occupy the top 35 of Myerberg's rankings. Texas (No. 1) and Georgia (No. 4) represent the conference in the top five, while LSU (No. 7) and Alabama (No. 10) round out the top 10. Missouri (No. 37), Arkansas (No. 62), and Kentucky (No. 81) are several of the schools behind Auburn in the post-spring re-rank. Auburn football will begin the season on Friday, August 29, at Baylor. Oklahoma Sooners included in USA TODAY Sports post-spring top 25

Oklahoma Sooners included in USA TODAY Sports post-spring top 25 The vibes surrounding the Oklahoma football team couldn't be much higher. At least, couldn't be much higher considering the Sooners are coming off their second 6-7 season in the last three years. And it isn't just local diehards. National college football writers Paul Myerberg and Erick Smith placed the Sooners at No. 25 in the updated USA TODAY Sports too-early rankings Monday. Oklahoma had not been ranked in the previous iteration. "The program's downward trend under coach Brent Venables makes this a wild-card pick to round out our post-spring rankings," Myerberg and Smith wrote. "Defensively, Oklahoma should be in good shape after bringing back many of the key pieces behind a unit that ranked seventh in the SEC last season in yards per play." On the other side of the ball, there's a lot more to be positive about for 2025, thanks to a re-vamped attack. Venables brought in former Washington State offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle in December. Along with Arbuckle came quarter John Mateer, who quickly established himself as the likely starter. Mateer led FBS in total touchdowns last year, throwing for 15 scores and throwing for 29. He should have an arsenal at his disposal out wide. Deion Burks and Jacob Jordan, the team's second and third leading receivers last year, return after playing about half the season each last year because of injuries. The Sooners also added Javonnie Gibson from Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Josiah Martin from California-Berkeley, Isaiah Sategna from Arkansas and Keontez Lewis from Southern Illinois. The Sooners are also hoping for the return of Jayden Gibson from knee injury that sidelined him for the 2024 season. He was trending toward a breakout season before the injury. If Oklahoma is able to maintain a reasonable level of health on offense, they'll have a much better season in 2025 than they did a year ago.
