"We condemn terrorism in strongest terms": Chief of Peace Committee, Security Council of the African Union Billy Winter
Addis Ababa [Ethiopia], May 31 (ANI): The Chief of Peace Committee, Security Council of the African Union, Billy Winter, expressed support for India's stance against terrorism. He observed that India and the African Union both have been dealing with the menace of terrorism and noted that in discussions with the all-party delegation, they (AU) shared their experiences and commitment to work together to eliminate terrorism. Speaking to ANI, Billy Winter said, 'We are with India in these trying moments. We, as the African Union Commission, condemn terrorism in the strongest terms, whether on the African continent, globally, or on the Indian side. However, we have shared experiences. As far as the African Union, we have also had this menace of terrorism across a number of member states. So our experience and how we respond to this, we have discussed with the high-level multi-party delegation from India, and they have also shared their experiences and committed to jointly working together to eliminate this menace once and for all.' In his remarks, he expressed that India has a right to respond to acts of terrorism as it is a 'sovereign right'. Speaking about India's new approach towards countering terrorism, he said, 'The new doctrine of India, we have been told, says that wherever the terrorist is on the globe, if it strikes on Indian soil, then India has the right to respond. And that is obvious, because the right to respond is a sovereign right on every state that has been afflicted by this menace.' He also said, 'It is terrorism that affects the livelihood of the civilians. So the way you respond to it is entirely through the national legislative measures. As the African Union, we have put in place normative frameworks. The Notch Court process, the Djibouti process, the counterterrorism centre in Algiers, and the information sharing centre in Entebbe, Uganda. Some of these are mechanisms that were put in place for sharing information and intelligence with our partners and allies.' The all-party delegation led by Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SCP) MP Supriya Sule, had earlier interacted with the Peace and Security Council of the African Union at its Headquarters in Addis Ababa. The delegation's mission is to showcase India's resolve against terrorism and garner international support for a united stand against this global threat. The Indian government's diplomatic outreach efforts aim to strengthen partnerships with countries in East and Southeast Asia, emphasising the need for a collective response to the threat of terrorism. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. Indian armed forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen. After the attack, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control and Jammu and Kashmir as well as attempted drone attacks along the border regions, following which India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan. After this, on May 10, an understanding regarding the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was announced. (ANI)

Cong to announce stand on Operation Kagar soon
Hyderabad: The Congress is likely to adopt previous 'YSR government strategy' to address the Naxal menace in the state through talks. A policy to hold peace talks on the lines of the Congress government headed by Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh is also contemplated. During a meeting on Monday, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy sought more details about the peace talks with Maoists in the YSR government from the then Home minister K Jana Reddy. Jana Reddy explained how the Congress government had initiated talks with the Naxals in 2004 and how he had addressed the extremist menace without violence in the united Andhra Pradesh. The Chief Minister said the Congress will also take a policy decision on tackling the Naxal issue first and then the state government will take a call. Following an appeal from the Peace Committee to prevail upon and stop the Operation Kagar launched by the Union government to wipe out the Naxals in the country, the CM took the initiative of preparing the Congress party's policy as well as the government's stand on the Naxal activities. Jana Reddy told the CM that the peace talks with the Naxals during the YSR government drew the national attention and also succeeded in inviting the Naxals to mainstream life as many youth quit the Maoist party. Speaking to newsmen, the Chief Minister asserted that a nationwide debate on the 'Operation Kagar' and also the constitution of a Peace Committee at the state level to hold talks with the Maoists. The mass killing of Maoists by the Central forces at Telangana- Chhattisgarh border drew strong criticism from all sections, the CM said, adding that the government considered the request of the Peace Committee to end the indiscriminate attacks on Maoist camps even after the extremist groups appeal for peace talks with the state and Union governments recently. Leaders said that the CM will present a report to the Congress high command on the suggestions being made by Jana Reddy and another leader K Kesava Rao on holding the peace talks with the Naxals soon.

10 killed in blast at Peace Committee Office in south Waziristan, Pakistan
ALBAWABA- An explosion rocked the office of a government-linked Peace Committee near Wana Bazaar in South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on Sunday, killing at least 10 people and injuring more than 17, according to local officials. The blast targeted the office of Peace Committee Chairman Saif-ur-Rehman, who was among the casualties. Initial reports suggest the explosion caused significant devastation in the area, with fears the death toll may rise as several of the injured remain in critical condition. Pakistan: 7 people have been killed and 13 injured in an explosion at a facility held by a former 'peace militia' leader of the Commander Nazir Group in Wana Bazar, South Waziristan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Officials reported killing at least 61 insurgents in Hassan Khel, with nine more militants eliminated across the border in Afghanistan. Authorities noted that seven bodies were so badly burned they were unrecognizable. The total militant death toll stands at 70. Security sources confirmed the insurgents were targeted near former Pakistan Taliban strongholds close to the Afghan frontier. The attacks underscore escalating tensions along the volatile Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Meanwhile, the situation remains tense elsewhere, as Pakistan and India exchanged fire across the Line of Control (LoC) following a deadly attack in Kashmir, further heightening regional instability.
