Stephen Graham reveals the 'ultimate' goal of 'Adolescence'

Stephen Graham, who co-created, co-wrote and stars in the critically acclaimed Netflix series 'Adolescence,' hopes that the show sparks conversations at home. 'When me and Jack (co-creator, Jack Thorne) started talking about this and writing and creating it, we wanted there to be conversations between parents and children,' he told The Post exclusively at the Gotham Television Awards on Monday, June 2. 'That was our ultimate thing. 'We wanted to try and see if we could create that conversation that needs to happen.' 8 Stephen Graham as Eddie Miller in 'Adolescence.' Courtesy of Netflix It's safe to say that the creative duo fulfilled their wish. The show, which premiered in March, has reached nearly 150 million views worldwide. It centers around a 13-year-old boy named Jamie Miller (played by Owen Cooper) who is arrested after the murder of a girl in his school. The series takes a pointed look at the role social media has in shaping young male teens and their views of women. London's Lord Mayor, Sadiq Khan, recently praised the show for highlighting the 'epidemic of violence against women and girls' in the United Kingdom. The 'Peaky Blinders' alum, 51, doesn't lay all the blame on the internet and social media. 8 (L to R) Owen Cooper as Jamie Miller, Stephen Graham as Eddie Miller in 'Adolescence.' Courtesy of Netflix 'I think it's something that we all maybe need to take accountability for,' he opined. 'I mean, you know, from the schooling, parenting, social kind of environment that our kids grow up in, and now I think these big social media companies themselves have a responsibility.' Graham was quick to clarify that 'I'm not saying police it' but rather 'I'm just saying [they] have a responsibility to be mindful.' The show won big at the Gotham Awards, winning for Breakthrough Limited Series, Outstanding Lead Performance in a Limited Series and Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Limited Series. 8 'Adolescence' centers around a teen boy named Jamie Miller ( Owen Cooper) who is arrested after the murder of a girl in his school. 'I read an article in the newspaper, which was about a young boy who had stabbed a young girl to death. And … I was stunned by what I was reading,' he said in March, per NPR. 'And then, about three or four months later, there was a story on the news … about a young boy who had stabbed a young girl to death, and this incident was the opposite end to the country to the first incident that I'd read about,' Graham continued. 8 'Adolescence' is available to stream on Netflix. You go through a lot of different things, physically, mentally, and even spiritually in the greater scheme of things,' the actor shared. 'My main question was why: Why is this happening?' Graham continued, 'There's a wonderful saying, which is, it takes a village to raise a child. And within that kind of complexity … it's kind of like, maybe we're all accountable. 'When a child closed the door back in the day when it was me and you, we didn't have access to the rest of the world [via the internet], and we couldn't be influenced dramatically by other people and their theories and their thought processes. So that was what we really wanted to look at.' 'Adolescence' is available to stream on Netflix.

Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig in talks to star in Damien Chazelle's Paramount movie

Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig are in talks to appear in Damien Chazelle's next movie. Chazelle has penned the script for an as-yet untitled motion picture, which he is also due to direct, and produce alongside Olivia Hamilton. According to Deadline, Craig and Murphy are in negotiations about appearing in the project, which insiders say is set in a prison. Production is expected to get underway later this year, if former James Bond star Craig and 'Peaky Blinders' actor Murphy sign up for the movie. News of the Paramount Pictures film first emerged in April 2024. It wasn't known who might star in the motion picture, but it was claimed at the time that Chazelle and Paramount bosses were expected to hold meetings with A-list talent for the project. Chazelle signed a deal with Paramount at the end of 2022, after working with the studio on his film 'Babylon' - which bombed at the box office despite starring Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt. The filmmaker acknowledged that the failure of the period movie is likely to impact the amount of funding he gets for future films. Speaking on the 'Talking Pictures' podcast, he said: "Certainly, in financial terms, 'Babylon' didn't work at all. You try to not have that effect what you're doing creatively, but, at some level, it can't help but affect it. But maybe that's OK? "I have a very mixed mind about it. Who knows. Maybe I won't be able to get this one made. I have no idea. We'll have to wait and see. "I've been head in the sand. I've been sort of busy writing. So I'll get a real taste of how it's changed or not [since 'Babylon'] once I get to finish this script and try to actually get it made. "I'm in a sort of trepidatious state of mind, but I have no illusions. I won't get a budget of 'Babylon' size any time soon, or at least not on this next one."

Kaley Cuoco is to star in a new mystery thriller for Prime Video. The 39-year-old actress - who is perhaps best known for her role as Penny on the hit sitcom 'The Big Bang Theory' - will soon be seen starring alongside Sam Claflin of 'Peaky Blinders' fame in the upcoming series 'Vanished' on Amazon's streaming platform. Production is underway in Marseille, France for the four-part series and it is expected that it will debut on the streaming platform in the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand at some point in 2026. The new role will act as something of a comeback for Kaley, who has not been seen since 'Based On A True Story' concluded its two-season run towards the end of last year. Prior to that, Kaley - who has 18-month-old daughter Matilda with her fiancé Tom Pelphrey - starred in the film 'Role Play' alongside David Oyelowo. But the star - who shot to fame as a teenager with her role on the long-running sitcom '8 Simple Rules' - reverently admitted that she would be happy to return to her signature role as Penny on 'The Big Bang Theory', more than five years after it came to an end. She told PEOPLE: "I would absolutely reprise that role. '100%. I love that character, and I always will.'

Florence Pugh hates the word 'ick': 'It's really s***'

Florence Pugh hates the term "ick". The 29-year-old actress admitted in a joint interview with her 'Thunderbolts' co-star Lewis Pullman that when it comes to social media slang which describes an element of someone's personality that turns another off, she believes it is a "really s***" way to think about anyone. She told Glamour UK: "I don't like the term ick. I don't believe in the… I think it's really shit. And it only really associates to men and I don't like that either… People f*** up and that's absolutely fine. The Hollywood star - who struck up a relationship with 'Peaky Blinders' star Finn Cole towards the end of last year - wonders what the "big deal" is with the term anyway and insisted that she would always "embrace" everything within a potential partner. "Why are we making a big deal out of it? [To Lewis] "I don't know your ick and I don't care about your ick, because I embrace all of you." Lewis confirmed that he himself doesn't have any "icks" and quickly shifted the conversation to ask his co-star who should play her in a biopic, but she doesn't even thinks she "deserves" one yet. She said: "I haven't thought about that. That's assuming I've thought about it. That's assuming that I think that I deserve one. "No way! No way! There are plenty more important and more brilliant people that deserve a biopic. I can't even speak." Meanwhile, Florence was asked about the most-used emoji i her phone and revealed that it has changed a number of times of the years but at the moment, it is one that she has found to be "effective" for just about any text messaging conversation. She said: "It's changed over the years, but recently it's the person doing a cartwheel. So effective for anything. Like if someone says, "Are you coming out tonight?" Just send them that. Or 'Are you up for lunch?' "Send them that. Or, "Hey, did you do the laundry?" Send them that. It's honestly brilliant, "And then also the disco man."
