Pensacola International Airport sees one of its busiest days — ever — on Memorial Day

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — This past Memorial Day marked one of the busiest days in Pensacola International Airport's history with around 13,450 travelers. Man survives alligator attack before being fatally shot by Polk County deputies: sheriff Monday marked the fourth busiest travel day in the airport's history and the second largest of 2025. 'We've experienced growth this year at a time where a lot of the airlines are pulling back in schedule, and we've been very fortunate that the airlines have not pulled schedule here,' PNS Assistant Director of Strategy and Development Todd Payne said. In comparison to last year's Memorial Day weekend, the Pensacola International Airport saw an increase in travelers by about 4.5%. The Pensacola International Airport team said it is thrilled with the number of passengers seen over the last years. 'Most airports grow at a rate of 2 to 3 to 4%; this airport last year grew 14%, and this year we're up about 4 to 5% so far, which is just amazing,' Payne said. Despite the increase in travelers, the longest wait time for security was only 15 minutes. 'We've worked really hard to try and make the guest experience as positive as it can be,' Payne said. 'You know, it gets a little hairy at times, especially at peak points, but we've added stanchions (kiosks); we have extra staff who are here.'
