PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The Peoria Public Works Department announced that there will be an intersection closure as part of the Combined Sewer Overflow project. Starting at 7 a.m. June 4, the intersection of West Aikens Avenue and South Steubenville Street will close to all traffic, according to Peoria Public Works Spokesman Nick McMillion said. Combined Sewer Overflow warning for Peoria The intersection is expected to open back up to traffic after the construction is complete sometime in mid-fall. Lanes to be restricted in Peoria for Ride of Silence event

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The Peoria Public Works Department announced that some lanes will be restricted for an upcoming cycling event. Rolling lane restrictions will go into effect starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday for the Ride of Silence, sponsored by Ride Peoria, according to Public Work's spokesman Nick McMillion. The Ride of Silence is a slow-paced ride in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways, according to the event page. The event is free and open to the public. According to McMillion, the bike route will begin at Tower Park at 1222 E. Kingman Avenue in Peoria Heights. Participants will travel south on North Prospect Road before heading east on East Hines Avenue. They will then head south on North Grand Boulevard. They will continue on Grand Boulevard until they start traveling west on West War Memorial Drive to North New York Avenue. Participants will then head North on New York Avenue until East Lake Avenue. Participants will travel east on Lake Avenue until they reach Prospect Road, which they will take North to return to Tower Park. PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The Peoria Public Works Department had a head start on Public Works Week. People had the opportunity to learn how the public works department operates on Thursday. There were interactive demonstrations, displays and games. Guests even had the chance to see the mechanics of plow trucks and sweepers. Media specialist Nick Million said it was a fun family event to show what the department does to keep the city running. 'A lot of times people think that, you know, a public works department, all we do is fill potholes in the summertime and plow the roads in the wintertime,' he said. 'But we have everything from engineers to mechanics to arborists, you name it, we have we have a little bit of all positions throughout the public works department.' PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Electrical work will cause turn lanes at the Pioneer Parkway and University street intersection to close down to all traffic. The work will begin at 7 a.m. and will last until through the end of the week. The turn lane on eastbound West Pioneer Parkway that turns onto North University Street is closed to all traffic, said Nick McMillion, a spokesman for the Peoria Public Works Department. So will the turn lane from University Street onto eastbound Pioneer Parkway will also be closed to all traffic, he said. The work is part of the city's Pioneer Parkway and University Street Intersection Reconstruction Project, he said. PEORIA, Ill (WMBD) — A portion of West Moss Avenue is set to close next week as part of the Moss Avenue – Western Avenue to Sheridan Road – Reconstruction Project. Moss Avenue from North Western Avenue to Duryea Place will be closed to traffic, starting March 17 and will last through the fall as they begin pavement removal work, said Nick McMillion, a spokesman for the Peoria Public Works Department. Only people who live in the area and emergency vehicles can drive on that portion of the road, and all on-street parking is not allowed, he said. There will be posted detour signs for drivers navigating the area. Drivers should use caution when driving in the area, McMillion said. The following McMillion says will be alternate routes for drivers: Eastbound and westbound through traffic on West Moss Avenue should utilize West Martin Luther King Jr. Drive or West Bradley Avenue from North Western Avenue or North University Street. Northbound traffic on North MacArthur Highway should utilize North Richard Allen Drive to West Romeo B Garrett Avenue to access westbound West Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
