Lumut RGT project to create 3,000 jobs under 13MP in Perak
IPOH: The Lumut Regasification Terminal (RGT) project, a key initiative under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), is set to create around 3,000 jobs for local residents, particularly in welding. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad confirmed the project will be developed in two phases at the Lumut Maritime Industrial City (LuMIC), with construction expected to start early next year. 'No fewer than 3,000 jobs. To me, that is quite an achievement, as the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan aims to create as many employment opportunities as possible,' he said. Saarani shared this after officiating the National-Level 'Nadwah Facing Artificial Intelligence (AI) Challenges Within the Framework of Sharia' at the Royal Perak Golf Club. He added that the state government will prioritise identifying and nurturing local talent in relevant fields to maximise the project's economic impact. The Menteri Besar also thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for including Perak Sejahtera 2030 initiatives in the 13MP. 'This shows that the Federal Government is committed to supporting and facilitating this project. Looking at the content of the 13MP, I hope this backing will continue until we succeed in making Perak a truly prosperous state,' he said. The 13MP, tabled on July 31, includes five major Perak projects: Kerian Green Integrated Industrial Park (KIGIP), High-Tech Automotive Valley (AHTV), Perak Halal Industrial Park (Perak HIP), LuMIC, and the Lumut RGT project. Petroliam Nasional Bhd will develop RGT3, with a liquefied natural gas processing capacity matching existing terminals in Sungai Udang, Melaka, and Pengerang, Johor. - Bernama

Young investors urged to approach Malaysia's capital market with caution
IPOH: With more opportunities emerging in Malaysia's capital market, young investors are encouraged to get involved but with caution, strategy, and a solid understanding of financial risks. State tourism, industry, investment, and corridor development committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said young investors must equip themselves with knowledge. 'This knowledge is important to assess risks, formulate sound strategies, and develop the discipline required to make informed decisions. 'At the same time, the rise in youth participation must be matched by greater vigilance against fraud. 'The growing sophistication of investment scams, particularly those targeting inexperienced investors, remains a serious concern,' he said in his speech at the Bursa Malaysia 2025 Investment Carnival held at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) in Kampar on Saturday (July 26). Loh said alongside the excitement of market entry, there is a real need for heightened awareness. He said fraudulent schemes have become more deceptive, and many first-time investors are falling victim. 'Get-rich-quick scams and bogus investment offers are becoming harder to detect. The number of victims, especially those just starting to invest, is on the rise,' he warned. He said the state government expressed serious concern over the matter, urging collective action. Loh said while enforcement remains crucial, public awareness and individual responsibility are equally important in protecting both oneself and others. 'Every prospective investor must fully understand both the potential gains and the risks involved. 'It is essential that all investment transactions are conducted through legitimate, secure, and regulated channels,' he added. Loh also stressed the need to build a generation of financially literate Malaysians who can serve not just as informed investors, but also as community watchdogs against investment fraud. 'Financially savvy individuals will play a vital role in educating others and forming a line of defence to prevent more people from falling victim to scams,' he said. Loh said the strategic collaboration between Bursa Malaysia and Utar is seen as a significant step in supporting the aspirations of the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan, especially in empowering youth and communities through practical and relevant knowledge, including effective financial management. He said the initiative aligns well with Perak's demographic profile, where a large portion of the 2.5mil population comprises young people, regarded as the backbone of the state's development agenda. 'Beyond its role in financial literacy, UTAR has also been directly involved in advancing several key strategic projects within the state. Among the most notable is Utar's participation, along with other higher learning institutions, in the Silver Valley Technology Park (SVTP) in Chemor. 'The high-impact project is expected to drive the growth of mineral-based and advanced technology industries in Perak,' he said. Loh said close collaboration between educational institutions, the government, and the industrial sector is seen as vital in boosting financial literacy among youth, which is increasingly regarded as an urgent need. 'Such efforts will not only unlock greater entrepreneurial potential and workforce readiness in the state, but also help build a stronger foundation for long-term financial stability in Perak,' he added.

Perak seeks rice quota hike for Bumiputera manufacturers
BAGAN SERAI: The Perak government plans to appeal to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) for a higher rice supply quota, particularly for Bumiputera manufacturers. This move aims to address current shortages and strengthen national food security. State Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture, and Food Industry Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun stressed the need for fair distribution between large and small manufacturers to stabilise rice production. He cited Yop Zainan Sdn Bhd, a 54-year-old local company, as an example. Despite its long-standing operation, the firm only receives a monthly quota of 300 tonnes, which falls short of domestic demand. 'I will raise this issue with Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu during his visit to Perak next week. We hope eligible manufacturers can secure an increased quota of up to 500 tonnes monthly,' he said after visiting Gudang Beras Yop Zainan in Kampung Masjid Batu, Kuala Kurau. The initiative aligns with Sultan Nazrin Shah's call to prioritise food security. Mohd Zolkafly noted that Perak's rice production should not only meet local needs but also support other states. Under the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan, the state is ramping up food security measures through various programmes. Additionally, the state is considering rebranding Yop Zainan's Beras Baiduri Cap Gajus as 'Beras Perak.' The proposal will be presented to the state executive council and, if approved, to Sultan Nazrin Shah. The official launch is targeted during Perak Agrofest from Sept 26 to 28. – Bernama

Perak vape ban decision pending further talks, says MB
IPOH: A decision on whether to ban vape products in Perak has yet to be made pending further discussions, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad. While the state executive council meeting briefly raised the matter, the Perak Mentri Besar said a more in-depth review is still required. 'A study needs to be conducted before any firm decision can be made. 'I have spoken to the state health committee chairman A. Sivanesan about it, but there are several matters that must be carefully considered. 'Among the factors being weighed are public health concerns and the potential impact on local vape traders,' he said after launching two strategic plans for the state here yesterday. On May 23, Saarani said that Perak is ready to consider the proposal to ban the sale of vape products and that he would try to bring the matter to the exco meeting the following week. Saarani added in the press conference that he had also received a request from the operators' (vape) association to discuss the matter. 'These are issues that need to be thoroughly examined. 'So any move to regulate or ban vape sales must take into account both health implications and economic effects on traders.' Saarani said with Sivanesan tasked with reviewing the matter from both a health and business impact perspective, a final decision will be made once all considerations are fully explored. 'I hope the matter will be tabled at the exco meeting as soon as possible,' he said. Earlier on at the event, Saarani said the state marked a new milestone with the launch of two strategic plans aimed at transforming Perak into an inclusive, sustainable and competitive smart state driven by the digital economy. The Perak Digital Economy Action Plan 2030 and the Perak State Smart City Blueprint 2040, Saarani said, are designed to strengthen digital infrastructure, empower human capital, and stimulate innovation and technology investment. He said the simultaneous launch of both plans marks a key step towards building a more efficient, resilient and high-quality urban environment, with a positive impact on Perak's socio-economic development. 'We are now in an era of rapid digital transformation, and if we act too slowly, we will be left behind. That is why the digital economy agenda has been identified as one of the nine main agendas under the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan. 'Our goal is clear: to build an inclusive, resilient and sustainable economy.'

Perak charts course to smart state with two strategic plans
KUALA LUMPUR: The Perak state government has launched the Perak Digital Economy Action Plan 2030 and the Perak State Smart City Blueprint 2040, as part of its long-term vision to modernise the state. The twin initiatives aim to transform the northern state, with a population of around 2.8 million, into an inclusive, sustainable and competitive smart state driven by the digital economy. The strategic plans are centred on strengthening digital infrastructure, developing human capital and fostering innovation and technology investment to drive comprehensive, high-impact socio-economic growth. Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the successful implementation of smart cities supports digital economic development, while digital economic growth strengthens a city's ability to become smarter and more resilient. "The Digital Economy Agenda is one of nine key agendas under the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan, launched in 2021, to develop an inclusive, resilient and sustainable socio-economy for all people of Perak," Saarani said in a statement. Meanwhile, he emphasised that both action plans were developed holistically and inclusively from the ground up. "We took into account feedback from a wide range of stakeholders, including federal and state departments and agencies, local authorities, the private sector, academia, NGOs, and local communities. "This ensures that all strategies and initiatives are not only responsive to current demands but are also resilient enough to face future challenges with greater effectiveness and sustainability," he said. As a prime mover for a large part of the implementation of Perak Sejahtera 2030, Perak State Development Corp chief executive officer Datuk Redza Rafiq said both plans serve as comprehensive frameworks for driving digital technology adoption. He added the plans aim to improve the efficiency of public services, urban management and the overall quality of life for the people. "This, in turn, will further strengthen the state's administrative capabilities and position Perak as a more efficient and competitive state. "The action plan and the blueprint will serve as key reference points in realigning development priorities in a more systematic, progressive and data-driven manner, in support of the aspirations of Perak Sejahtera 2030," he added.
