Perplexity's AI-powered web browser 'Comet' with agentic search launched
Perplexity has launched its AI-powered web browser, Comet, designed to offer a more advanced and intuitive search and Browse experience. Built on the Chromium platform, Comet uses Perplexity as its default search engine and features built-in agentic capabilities that not only answer user queries but can also execute multi-step tasks on their behalf. With native integration of Perplexity AI, users can summarise content, translate text, and take contextual follow-up actions — all within the browser interface. What is Perplexity's Comet? Perplexity describes Comet as its 'browser for agentic search,' signalling its shift toward integrating AI-driven tools that can help users complete complex workflows with minimal manual effort. Agentic AI refers to intelligent software agents capable of handling multi-step, repetitive tasks autonomously by understanding user intent and context. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Perplexity Chief Executive Officer Aravind Srinivas said, 'Comet transforms entire Browse sessions into single, seamless interactions, collapsing complex workflows into fluid conversations.' Comet relies on Perplexity as the primary search engine, offering AI-generated responses sourced from across the web. Perplexity's Comet: Features According to Perplexity, Comet reimagines web Browse by shifting from passive content consumption to active, intelligent engagement. Instead of managing multiple tabs and apps, users interact with a unified interface that understands their needs. The assistant can manage full sessions, eliminate distractions, and streamline workflows — whether users are comparing products, researching topics, or solving complex problems. The browser also features a sidebar assistant that can summarise pages, answer queries, and take actions such as booking hotels, sending emails, or shopping online. A built-in assistant is also capable of responding to questions related to the content currently visible on the user's screen. As of now, Comet is available exclusively to Perplexity Max subscribers and a limited group of users via invite on a waitlist. The browser is currently accessible on both Mac and Windows platforms.

Perplexity Unveils Comet: An AI Browser to Challenge Google's Search Dominance
Perplexity, the startup best known for its AI 'answer' engine, has taken its ambitions a step further with the launch of Comet, its AI-powered web browser. Designed to make searching and browsing more seamless, Comet blends Perplexity's AI search tools with a built-in assistant that CEO Aravind Srinivas claims will 'transform entire browsing sessions into single, seamless interactions.' At launch, Comet will be exclusive to users subscribed to the Perplexity Max plan, which costs $200 per month, before becoming more widely available through an invite-only rollout. The browser sets Perplexity as the default search engine, delivering AI-generated answers sourced from around the web. Beyond just search, Comet is designed to handle tasks for users, such as buying products online or booking hotel stays. Comet is here.A web browser built for today's — Perplexity (@perplexity_ai) July 9, 2025 This move comes as Perplexity positions itself as a growing rival to Google's search empire. The company recently partnered with Motorola to pre-install its AI assistant on new Razr smartphones, a deal Srinivas said wouldn't have happened if Google hadn't faced antitrust scrutiny. 'They would have bullied a lot of the OEMs,' Srinivas told a famous publication earlier this year. Comet is built on Chromium, the open-source framework that also powers Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Interestingly, Srinivas has hinted that Perplexity would consider acquiring Chrome if Google were ever forced to sell it. In addition to Perplexity's AI search integration, Comet's sidebar hosts an AI assistant that can do more than just answer questions. Users can ask it to summarise web content, book meetings, send emails, or even make purchases—features similar to those offered by Google through Gemini in Chrome. For now, Comet is only available on Windows and Mac, but users can easily import existing extensions, bookmarks, and settings with just 'one click.' Srinivas says the team plans to keep expanding Comet's capabilities, signalling that the browser could play a big role in shaping how AI integrates with everyday internet use.

Nvidia-Backed Perplexity (NVDA) Takes on Google with New AI-Powered Web Browser
Nvidia-backed Perplexity AI (NVDA) has introduced a new AI-powered web browser called Comet in order to challenge Google's (GOOGL) dominance in the search and browsing market. The startup described Comet as a tool that turns entire browsing sessions into smooth, ongoing conversations. Indeed, users can ask questions, complete tasks, and conduct research through a single, intuitive interface that feels more like chatting than searching. Don't Miss TipRanks' Half-Year Sale Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Unlock powerful investing tools, advanced data, and expert analyst insights to help you invest with confidence. Comet also includes an assistant that can help with a variety of tasks, such as comparing products, summarizing articles, booking meetings, and more. According to Perplexity, the assistant is able to maintain full context during interactions, thereby making complex tasks seem simple through straightforward conversations. For example, users can ask Comet to compare insurance options or explain how a specific technology works. Interestingly, to protect privacy, Comet stores user data only within the browser and doesn't use it to train its models. Furthermore, access to Comet will begin rolling out to Perplexity Max subscribers on July 9, with limited invitations sent out gradually over the summer. Each new user will also be able to invite others. The launch puts Perplexity in direct competition with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews, as the race to lead the AI-driven search market continues. What Is a Good Price for NVDA? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Strong Buy consensus rating on NVDA stock based on 35 Buys, four Holds, and one Sell assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. In addition, the average NVDA price target of $175.97 per share implies 7.9% upside potential.
