Former Mercyhurst University goaltender Peter Aubry latest Erie tie to Edmonton Oilers

Erie's hockey connections with the Edmonton Oilers have extended to Mercyhurst University. Edmonton, led on the ice by former Erie Otters center Connor McDavid and off it by former coach Kris Knoblauch, announced three hirings to Knoblauch's staff on July 14. Advertisement One was Peter Aubry, 48, who will work with Edmonton's goaltenders. He was Mercyhurst's primary netminder from 1998-2002 before he experienced a professional career with North American and European franchises over the rest of that decade. The Edmonton Oilers hired former Mercyhurst University goaltender Peter Aubry as their goalie coach on July 14. Aubry returned to pro hockey employment after a two-season tenure as associate coach for the University of Nebraska-Omaha men's hockey program. Before that, the Windsor, Ontario, native was the developmental goalie coach for the Chicago Blackhawks' minor league affiliates. Paul McFarland and Conor Allen were the Oilers' other additions to their coaching staff. Aubry will be tasked with improving the position perceived as the prime reason Edmonton lost the second of the last two Stanley Cup finals to the Florida Panthers. Stuart Skinner, the regular starter this past season, and Calvin Pickard are the current goalies on its offseason roster. Multiple media outlets reported Connor Brown, a forward for Erie's Ontario Hockey League franchise from 2011-14, signed a four-year, $12-million contract with the New Jersey Devils. They'll be the fifth NHL stop since the Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick joined them during their 2015-16 season. Brown, 31, totaled 17 goals and 25 assists over his two regular seasons for the Oilers. He added seven goals and eight assists over their last two playoff runs. Edmonton Oilers announce coaching roster changes

Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch will have some new faces with him behind the bench next season. In a Monday morning release, the club named a trio of new coaches to the staff: Paul McFarland, Peter Aubry and Conor Allen. McFarland joins the Oilers after a season as the Calgary Hitmen's bench boss. This marks a return to the NHL after working as an assistant for three seasons with the Seattle Kraken, following stints with the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs. Aubry is the new goaltending coach, taking over for Dustin Schwartz, whose contract was not extended. Most recently, he was an associate coach for Nebraska-Omaha in the NCAA, as well as a developmental goaltending coach for the Chicago Blackhawks. Allen joins the Oilers as the team's skills coach. Previously, he was with the U.S. U17 team, and worked in a skill development role with the USHL's Sioux City Musketeers. Assistant coach Mark Stuart and video coach Noah Segall have been given contract extensions. Paul Coffey, who has worked with the team's defence corps, will return to his prior role as a special advisor to ownership and hockey operations. Glen Gulutzan, who spearheaded the Oilers' dominant power play, has signed on as head coach of the Dallas Stars. Kris Knoblauch will be speaking with the media later Monday morning.
