Verifying Israeli strikes in Lebanon, and assessing calls to scrap the two-child cap

Update: Date: 10:33 BST Title: Looking into overnight strikes in Lebanon Content: Peter Mwai and Richard Irvine-BrownBBC Verify We've had confirmation from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) which says it has 'struck Hezbollah infrastructure sites' in southern Lebanon. We've seen multiple reports in recent hours from Lebanese and Israeli media of air strikes in southern Lebanon. Locations suggested include Ansar, Nabatieh and Mahmoudiya. We're reviewing clips posted on social media overnight but, given they are mostly in the dark and in more remote areas, it takes longer to find where they are filmed. So far, we have identified the location of this video which emerged overnight as the forecourt of a petrol station to the west of a small village called Deir Seryan. This video was located to the west of a site that was struck, itself to the west of Deir Seryan, southern Lebanon Daylight images are emerging now, which will give us a better handle on what has been hit and where, and perhaps what has caused the also looking at satellite images which detect heat signatures, such as the burning after airstrikes, to give us another keep you updated. Update: Date: 10:15 BST Title: Welcome to BBC Verify Live Content: Rob CorpBBC Verify Live editor Good morning. Since late last night our verification team has been looking into reports that the Israeli military has carried out a series of air strikes in southern Lebanon. At the moment footage we've seen was taken last night and we're in the process of checking it's genuine. More on that to come shortly. Elsewhere we're investigating former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown's call to use higher gambling taxes to fund the cost of scrapping the two-child benefit cap. We'll look into his comments, and assess how likely it is that increasing levies could raise the necessary funds. As well as those stories to come here on BBC Verify Live we've got a new report from the United Nations on the number of buildings that have been destroyed across the Gaza Strip since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas. Plus we'll keep across the wildfires in southern France by checking on Nasa's heat source satellites.

BBC Verify Live: Assessing Iran and Israel attacks ahead of ceasefire

Update: Date: 10:11 BST Title: Verifying aftermath of Iran's attack on Israel before ceasefire agreed Content: Peter MwaiBBC Verify senior journalist Several pictures - including this one - of Israeli workers at the scene was shared on X by the Israeli ambulance service We have been using images and videos posted on social media to verify the aftermath of an Iranian missile attack on Israel early on Tuesday moments before the Israeli government announced it had agreed to a ceasefire. The Israeli ambulance service Magen David Adom says four people were killed and 22 were wounded in the attack on the southern town of Beersheba. One of the videos we've verified shows smoke rising into the sky from a location with several high-rise buildings. We have located the footage shared on social media with satellite imagery to an area of Beersheba. We've also been able to match a pet shop seen in another picture shared on X by Magen David Adom, external of rescuers at the scene which we found was very close to the apartment building that was hit. Update: Date: 09:52 BST Title: Tuesday on BBC Verify Live Content: Rob CorpBBC Verify Live editor Good morning. We're keeping a close eye on developments in the Middle East after Iran and Israel agreed to a US and Qatar-brokered ceasefire. The truce appears to be under strain after Israel accused Iran of launching missiles after they had agreed to stand down. Iran has denied the allegation. But in the hours before they agreed to stand down both sides continued carrying out attacks with Israeli air raids reported in northern Iran and an Iranian missile hitting southern Israel. The BBC News live page has the latest news and reaction. We're looking to verify footage from both countries to get an understanding of what was hit in those attacks. Elsewhere, journalists on the fact-check team are across today's Nato summit where 32 member states will pledge to spend 5% of GDP on national security - the UK among them. They'll be looking at how that spending breaks down in terms of where the money will come from and what it will be spent on. As ever - if there's something you think BBC Verify should be investigating then do fill in our contact form.

BBC Verify Live: Verified videos capture Tehran blasts, plus new Iran satellite images analysed

Update: Date: 10:00 BST Title: Verified videos show blasts across Tehran Content: Peter MwaiBBC Verify senior journalist We've been sourcing and authenticating videos showing a series of loud explosions overnight in eastern Tehran following another night of Israeli air raids. The footage we've verified shows huge plumes of smoke rising into the night sky above the Iranian capital. We can tell where the strikes have taken place by looking at physical features in the footage such as mountain ranges and matching them against online mapping services like Google Earth. In the footage we can see smoke coming from slightly behind the mountain range to the east of Tehran which matches the location of the Khojir missile production complex - an expansive military installation near the town of Hajarabad. The location also matches heat sources captured by Nasa satellites, external that are used to track wildfires and other thermal signals. Update: Date: 09:27 BST Title: Wednesday on BBC Verify Live Content: Rob CorpBBC Verify Live editor Good morning from the newsroom in London. We have a number of stories to chase and verify today as the team continues to update and inform the BBC's reporting on the conflict between Iran and Israel. Because BBC News cannot operate freely in Iran we use verified footage and images to get a better understanding of what is happening in the country. So today we're looking at: We'll also be updating our data on the number of English Channel small boat crossings by migrants as the UK government warns the situation is "deteriorating".
