Jeff Cummins' Doctor Who illustrations in new book
Launched by publishing house Candy Jar Books, Outside the Box: The Complete Doctor Who Art of Jeff Cummins, is a new title celebrating the legacy of the Flintshire-based artist - timed perfectly ahead of a major Doctor Who exhibition this summer. Jeff has been a leading figure in British sci-fi and pop culture illustration for decades, producing artwork for Paul McCartney, Led Zeppelin, and most famously, Doctor Who. This new volume focuses exclusively on his contributions to the Doctor Who universe, bringing together his iconic Target novel covers, personal commissions, rare early pieces and never-before-seen artwork. From my earliest Dalek paintings as a kid, to my latest portraits of Ncuti Gatwa and Jodie Whittaker - it's all part of the same creative journey." The book includes: • Jeff's celebrated Target novel covers and work from the Doctor Who Discovers series. • A detailed look at the unreleased Target calendar project. • New illustrations of Doctors old and new - including portraits of Colin Baker, David Bradley, Tom Baker, and more. • A new comic strip chronicling Jeff's life as an artist. • Private commissions, early works, and Jeff's latest Dalek painting - connecting his childhood in Wales to his present-day artistry. Running until November, the exhibition will showcase iconic props, costumes, set pieces, and Jeff's original artwork - with signed copies of Outside the Box available in the museum gift shop. Sarah Wilson, heritage manager at Peterborough Museum, said: "Jeff's artwork is a vital part of Doctor Who's visual history. His distinctive style helped define an era for fans around the world." Outside the Box is being distributed by the Books Council of Wales, ensuring it will be available in all good bookshops across Wales, including local independents and online retailers.

City museum and gallery appeals for volunteers
A city museum has appealed for volunteers following news it will remain open five days a week. Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery already has 120 volunteers but wants more people to join who have an interest in history and the arts. Peterborough City Council has proposed reducing the museum's opening hours to save money as part of its budget for 2025-26. But Dennis Jones, the council's Labour leader, has said there will be no immediate changes to its timetable. The library particularly wants volunteers in the run-up to its "showstopper exhibition" of Doctor Who artefacts from 3 May: Adventures in Time & Space. Volunteers would also help organise events and guided tours, carry out research, as well as help with running its in-house cafe, Squires Coffee House. A museum spokesperson said: "We truly appreciate the invaluable contributions of our volunteers. "Their dedication not only supports our staff but also enhances the experience for our visitors." The museum is due to be open six days a week during the Doctor Who exhibition. Follow Peterborough news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X.
