Here's what Phil Collins learned while recording the soundtrack for 'Tarzan'

There is a reason the Tarzan soundtrack is so iconic, and it all has to do with Phil Collins. Musician and songwriter Phil Collins described the moment he realised he needed to sing all of the film's music in other languages. The singer sang in multiple different languages for the 'Tarzan' movie "Someone says, 'Excuse me, we go to 35 countries. So I'm afraid you're going to... are you going to try to sing in Spanish or Swahili?'" he recalled in the throwback clip. Before working on the Disney animated tale, Collins said he had "never ever sung anything in another language before," reported People. "So that's another plus, that's another new thing I've learned while doing this project," he added, noting that it "opened up a whole" new world to him. The old clip then shows Collins singing Strangers Like Me from the movie Tarzan in French and Spanish. Collins recorded the songs in five different languages: French, German, Italian, Spanish and English, reported People. Collins composed the soundtrack to the 1999 Disney film, which went on to win a Grammy for Best Soundtrack Album. You'll Be in My Heart bagged the Academy Award for Best Original Song and the Golden Globe for the same honour. The songs were written and composed by Collins, who performed alongside Glenn Close, Rosie O'Donnell and NSYNC, with an original score composed by Mark Mancina. The film, which made $448.2 million (Dh1.64 billion) worldwide, starring Tony Goldwyn, Minnie Driver, Brian Blessed, Wayne Knight, Close, and O'Donnell. In 2016, the famed musician's daughter, Lily Collins, told Harry Connick Jr. that one of her father's most recognisable songs was originally written as a lullaby for her.

Unless you're wearing a shellsuit while watching a Betamax video of Roland Rat driving a Sinclair C5 to Woolworths to pick up a copy of No Jacket Required by Phil Collins, there are few things that look more '80s than these KM5 Lightwear Headphones Hp1. Originally crowdfunded in Japan last year, enough people wanted to look like Marty McFly that these retro headphones are now available to buy for £159/$189 – and they've had some important upgrades to make them fit for use in 2025 rather than 1985. For starters there's Bluetooth 5.4 with LE Audio support, so you don't need to worry about finding something with a 3.5mm port to plug them into, and even though they sit on your ears rather than fully covering them you get noise-cancelling with a transparency mode too. At 103g they're more than twice the weight of the original Sony Walkman headphones they mimic, but those didn't have a 120mAh battery attached on each side, plus they still make the new Sony WH-1000XM6 look like they're made out of lead. There are no wires to connect the two sides, so you need to charge both batteries independently. Fortunately there's a special split cable included in the box, and they should last up to 24 hours between charges, which is more than enough for the full discographies of both Phil Collins and Roland Rat. As well as those batteries, each earcup is also home to a 40mm driver and a set of controls. You can adjust the volume, skip through your tunes, and also summon your phone's voice assistant. The KM5 Lightwear Headphones Hp1 are available in two different colours, both with swappable magnetic ear cushions. The white ones come with gray and turquoise, while the black ones get black and dark red. Choose the pair that best matches your shellsuit.

Music legend Phil Collins seen in rare appearance amid health battle

Music legend Phil Collins seen in rare appearance amid health battle Phil Collins was out in force to support his son Matthew as he played for Austrian football club WSG Tirol at the weekend, with the music legend making a rare appearance Singer and drummer Phil Collins has been candid about his health struggles (Image: undefined via Getty Images ) Music icon Phil Collins made a rare public appearance this weekend to support his son Matthew Collins during a crucial match with Austrian football team WSG Tirol. The father and son were spotted together in the stands, capturing a rare moment in a heartfelt photo after the game. Best known for timeless hits like In the Air Tonight, the 74-year-old musician shares Matthew and Nicholas with ex-wife Orianne Cevey, along with three other children: Joely, Lily, and Simon, 48. Phil met Orianne in the 1990s while she was working as his translator in Switzerland. The two married in 1999 but later parted ways in 2008. ‌ Despite WSG Tirol's narrow 3-2 defeat to Hartberg in the play-off on Saturday, Phil stayed to show support for his 20-year-old son and the team. ‌ Phil Collins' footballer son Matthew, 20, shares rare Instagram snap with his father as he supports him at game Interestingly, Matthew's connection to the Genesis frontman wasn't immediately known when he joined the squad. Head coach Manuel Ludwiger explained, "We Google the players we take on trial to find out about their past careers, it was only then that we found out Matthew is Phil Collins' son. We haven't signed him as a publicity stunt. It is purely down to his footballing ability.", reports the Mirror. Phil has openly discussed Matthew's deep-seated passion for football, recalling a conversation that showed his son's confidence in becoming a professional player. "Matt loves music, but loves his football even more," Phil noted. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter Earlier this year, Phil candidly shared news about his deteriorating health that's led to a complete lack of interest in creating music. The legendary drummer and singer, who hung up his sticks in 2022 due to escalating physical difficulties stemming from a spinal injury in 2007, gave a touching update on his wellbeing, having also been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2017. ‌ Speaking to Mojo magazine, he said, "I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens. But I'm not hungry for it anymore." The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member added, "The thing is, I've been sick, I mean very sick." Recounting his long battle with spinal issues since 2009, he said, "My vertebrae have been crushing my spinal cord because of the position I drum in. It comes from years of playing. ‌ "I can't even hold the sticks properly without it being painful. I even used to tape the sticks to my hands to get through. Don't worry, I can still sing." In the poignant documentary released last year, 'Phil Collins: Drummer First', which was filmed over two years, Phil revisits his journey, placing emphasis on his drumming rather than his famous vocals. The deeply emotional film depicts the gifted artist grappling with the harsh reality that drumming, an art form once intrinsic to his life, had slipped away, and his days performing live were conclusively behind him. In the documentary, Phil addresses the impact of his health on his ability to play drums, saying: "It's still kind of sinking in a little bit. You know, I'm 71. I've spent all my life playing drums. To suddenly not be able to do that is a shock. ‌ "If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks, then I will have a crack at it. I just feel like I've used up my air miles," and confessed: "To be suddenly not be able to do that is a shock. If I can't do what I did as well as I did it, I'd rather relax and not do anything." Phil also expressed how his physical decline has affected him mentally: "I'm not a singer who plays the drums. I'm more of a drummer who sings a bit." Phil Collins' footballer son Matthew, 20, shares rare Instagram snap with his father as he supports him at game

Phil Collins ' footballer son Matthew shared a rare Instagram snap with his father as he supported him at a game this weekend. The sporting star, 20, plays for Austrian side WSG Tirol and musician Phil, 74, was in the crowds on Sunday to see him play. Wearing his green and white football kit Matthew beamed next to his famous dad who wore a casual outfit. Matthew captioned his post: 'big wins today!' as he put his arm around Phil. Phil has five children with Matthew the youngest of them. His proud half sister, the actress Lily Collins, reshared the post and penned over the top: 'I love everything about this' along with a white heart emoji. The English footballer signed a contract with WSG Tirol in 2023. He played for Hannover's U19s earlier in his career but after the German club released him, he went on to impress on trial in Austria. Previously revealing his shock at the player's lineage, coach Manuel Ludwiger said: 'We Google the players we take on trial to find out about their past careers. 'It was only then that we found out Matthew is Phil Collins' son. 'We haven't signed him as a publicity stunt. It is purely down to his footballing ability.' Phil isn't Matthew's only superstar relative, however. His half sister Lily has made it big as an actress, most notably in the lead role in Emily in Paris. Several years ago, rock great Phil opened up on his son's passion for sport. 'Matt loves music, but loves his football even more,' he said. 'He is certain he'll turn professional. 'The other day he said, "Another five years and I'll be gone". 'He also looks at everything, Bundesliga, French league, everything.' Lily is back filming the next season of Emily In Paris just three months after welcoming daughter Tove with husband Charlie McDowell. In her post at the time Lily expressed her 'infinite gratitude' towards the surrogate who helped her become a mother. But after sharing an image of newborn Tove on Instagram, the actress was attacked online, with many accusing her of being part of a growing 'unethical' A-list trend. The backlash was so severe that US film producer Charlie released a statement asking people to spend 'less time spewing hateful words' as he said no one will know the true motivations behind why the couple chose to use a surrogate.
