Frankfurt board member apologizes for fans delaying game for 50 mins
Eintracht Frankfurt fans forcing kick-off in Sunday's Bundesliga game at Bochum to be delayed by 50 minutes will have consequences, Frankfurt board member Philipp Reschke has said.
The Eagles won 3-1 to consolidate fourth spot but the behaviour of the away supporters, who refused to remove a banner blocking an emergency exit for almost an hour, stole the headlines.
"We have to apologize to Bochum and everyone else affected by this," he told DAZN. "We have to talk to our fans. We're obviously not happy because it shouldn't have come to this."
It is the third time in three years that such a scene has transpired at Bochum, after VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Mönchengladbach fans also blocked an exit with banners.
Frankfurt 'Ultras' eventually opted to remove all their banners on Sunday and many then left the stadium before the actual kick-off.
"We have to work on finding different solutions together," said Reschke.
"We were well informed beforehand that we weren't allowed to hang banners over the escape routes and gates, but it still happened. Then debates broke out down there that we would all have liked to have avoided. That must not happen, because the circumstances were known."
