Vax-preventable diseases under digi surveillance

Lucknow: State health department included real-time surveillance of six vaccine-preventable diseases in the Unified Disease Surveillance Platform (UDSP) on Thursday. Launched in May 2023, UDSP was created with the vision to serve as a unified surveillance system for the state, covering 12 notifiable diseases and has been operational at scale since then. Current effort aims to provide live, accurate and reliable data collection to contain outbreaks swiftly. " Digital surveillance of vaccine-preventable diseases will ensure faster communication between districts and state, enabling early detection and improving quality of public health response upon detection and we will receive timely, accurate data to enhance and monitoring of our immunisation programmes and take corrective actions to improve immunisation coverage," said Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, principal secretary, health and family welfare. NHM director, Dr Pinky Jowel IAS, said, "Bringing VPD surveillance onto UDSP will strengthen our understanding of vaccine-preventable diseases and help plan future actions better." State surveillance officer, Dr Vikasendu Agarwal, said real-time data will help in fortifying the fight against vaccine-preventable diseases.

State immunisation officer, Dr Ajay Gupta, said through these efforts, UP reaffirmed its commitment to a healthier and vaccinated future for all children. Routine Immunisation, NHM-UP, general manager Dr Manoj Shukul, said: "Scale of UP's vaccination programme is huge and better surveillance will help in striving for last-mile coverage."
