Aubrey Plaza to play Heidi Fleiss in biopic directed by Leah Rachel from Pinky Promise
Aubrey Plaza is set to both star in and produce The Heidi Fleiss Story, an upcoming biopic about the notorious 'Hollywood madam' who made headlines in the 1990s. The film, which marks the feature directorial debut of Leah Rachel, will chronicle Fleiss's rise and fall as the operator of what was reported to be the world's largest high-end prostitution ring—implicating celebrities, politicians, and other powerful figures. Plaza will portray Fleiss during the turbulent period leading up to her trial, as she attempts to manipulate her Hollywood connections in an effort to have the case against her dropped. According to the official logline, the story follows Fleiss navigating Los Angeles with the help of Jaclyn, a young aspiring writer, as she tries to leverage secrets and threats to evade justice. The script is co-written by Rachel, Rachel Sennott (Bottoms), and Travis Jackson. Sennott, known for her rising status as a Gen Z screen star, adds comedic and dramatic edge to the film's take on the infamous media frenzy that surrounded Fleiss's case. The project is being produced by Jessamine Burgum and Kara Durrett under their production company Pinky Promise, with Plaza producing via her banner Evil Hag. Production is scheduled to begin later this year in Los Angeles. Plaza, best known for roles in Parks and Recreation and The White Lotus, recently appeared in Ethan Coen's Honey Don't, Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis, and the Sundance breakout My Old Ass. She'll next appear in The Accompanist, directed by Zack Woods and co-starring Susan Sarandon. She is represented by CAA and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham. Pinky Promise continues to establish itself as a force in indie cinema with titles like The Starling Girl and Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul, and upcoming projects such as Scarlett Johansson's Eleanor the Great.

BENGALURU: OpenAI has expanded its AI for Impact Accelerator initiative in India, providing a total of $150,000 in technical grants to 11 nonprofit organisations that are building artificial intelligence (AI) tools aimed at addressing challenges in healthcare, education, agriculture, and other underserved sectors. The latest phase of the programme falls under the newly formed OpenAI Academy and marks a year of engagement with Indian nonprofits using AI for public benefit. Several of the participating organisations have already integrated OpenAI's technology to improve operational scale, user experience and measurable impact. Rocket Learning, for instance, is using generative AI over WhatsApp to deliver early childhood learning content to parents and daycare workers. The organisation is currently reaching four million children across 11 states. Noora Health, which supports families of patients in low-resource settings, has automated parts of its caregiver engagement workflows, reducing message review volume for nurses while increasing the number of families served. Educate Girls is applying AI to identify and bring back out-of-school girls in rural India. I-Stem has converted over 1.5 million web pages into accessible formats to assist visually impaired users. Pinky Promise, a reproductive health platform, said its AI-powered chatbot enables a team of three doctors to manage care for 10,000 patients, with a reported medication adherence rate of 92%. Other organisations in the cohort include those focused on agriculture, digital inclusion, public policy delivery, and skilling through AI-based personalisation. The programme is supported by philanthropic partners including The Agency Fund, Tech4Dev, and Tired of too many ads? go ad free now OpenAI also recently conducted a workshop to help these organisations explore the capabilities of its latest models in designing population-scale solutions. OpenAI said the initiative is closely aligned with the objectives of the IndiaAI Mission, which focuses on democratising AI access and building technology that responds to India's specific socio-economic contexts. Pragya Misra, who leads policy and partnerships for OpenAI in India, said the accelerator is part of the company's effort to ground its technology in real-world use cases. She added that the organisations involved are advancing inclusive innovation by applying AI to complex problems across the country. OpenAI said that it plans to onboard more India-based nonprofits into the programme later this year and added that additional initiatives focused on the region are currently in development.

Cannes 2025: Scarlett Johansson's Directorial Debut Eleanor The Great Gets 5-Minute Standing Ovation
Los Angeles: Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson had her moment at the ongoing edition of the Cannes Film Festival. The actress' feature directorial debut Eleanor the Great competing in the Un Certain Regard competition. The film stars June Squibb, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Erin Kellyman, and it earned Johansson and her cast a five-minute standing ovation, reports Variety. Johansson was escorted by her all-powerful agent and CEO of CAA, Bryan Lourd. As per Variety, her husband, 'Weekend Update' anchor Colin Jost, arrived solo and mingled with Sony Pictures Classics executives Tom Bernard and Michael Barker. Reigning best actor Oscar winner Adrien Brody and his partner Georgina Chapman also attended, chatting up Jost. Introducing the film, Johansson said premiering it at Cannes is 'really a dream come true'. 'When you make a film that's an independent film like this, no one's doing it for the money, surprise, surprise', she continued. 'Really, everyone that came together for this film came together because they loved the story, the script so much. It's a film about many things, it's about friendship, it's about grief, it's about forgiveness. And I think those are all themes that we can use a lot more of these days'. Eleanor the Great sees Squibb play the witty and proudly troublesome 94-year-old Eleanor Morgenstein, who after a devastating loss, tells a tale that takes on a dangerous life of its own. After the screening ended to rapturous applause, Johansson gave Squibb a tender hug that seemed to go on for several minutes. She later described her lead star as 'truly inspiring'. She also called Kellyman an 'absolute revelation' and said she was 'so excited for the world to meet her'. 'It's a film that I feel is historic and also very timely now, and so I hope that you all carry it with you the way that I carry Eleanor with me', Johansson said as the clapping came to a close. Johansson is on double duty this year in Cannes, as she's also among the bumper star cast of Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme. She's also something of a Cannes veteran, having previously attended for Anderson's last film Asteroid City in 2023. Prior to that, she was in Cannes for two Woody Allen films, Vicky Cristina Barcelona in 2008 and for Match Point in 2005. Johansson produced Eleanor the Great with Jonathan Lia, and Keenan Flynn for These Pictures, Kara Durrett and Jessamine Burgum for Pinky Promise, and Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler of Maven Screen Media. Wayfarer Studios co-financed the film with Content Engineers, Pinky Promise and MacPac. Steve Sarowitz, Justin Baldoni, Jamey Heath and Andrew Calof are executive producing for Wayfarer Studios.
