Aubrey Plaza is set to both star in and produce The Heidi Fleiss Story, an upcoming biopic about the notorious 'Hollywood madam' who made headlines in the 1990s. The film, which marks the feature directorial debut of Leah Rachel, will chronicle Fleiss's rise and fall as the operator of what was reported to be the world's largest high-end prostitution ring—implicating celebrities, politicians, and other powerful figures.
Plaza will portray Fleiss during the turbulent period leading up to her trial, as she attempts to manipulate her Hollywood connections in an effort to have the case against her dropped. According to the official logline, the story follows Fleiss navigating Los Angeles with the help of Jaclyn, a young aspiring writer, as she tries to leverage secrets and threats to evade justice.
The script is co-written by Rachel, Rachel Sennott (Bottoms), and Travis Jackson. Sennott, known for her rising status as a Gen Z screen star, adds comedic and dramatic edge to the film's take on the infamous media frenzy that surrounded Fleiss's case.
The project is being produced by Jessamine Burgum and Kara Durrett under their production company Pinky Promise, with Plaza producing via her banner Evil Hag. Production is scheduled to begin later this year in Los Angeles.
Plaza, best known for roles in Parks and Recreation and The White Lotus, recently appeared in Ethan Coen's Honey Don't, Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis, and the Sundance breakout My Old Ass. She'll next appear in The Accompanist, directed by Zack Woods and co-starring Susan Sarandon. She is represented by CAA and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham.
Pinky Promise continues to establish itself as a force in indie cinema with titles like The Starling Girl and Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul, and upcoming projects such as Scarlett Johansson's Eleanor the Great.

Francis Ford Coppola confirms heart procedure in Rome and shares health update after Megalopolis tour

Legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola has confirmed that he underwent a scheduled heart procedure in Rome, following reports of his hospitalization. The 86-year-old director shared the news personally through an Instagram post on Tuesday evening, reassuring fans that he is in good condition. 'Da Dada (what my kids call me) is fine,' Coppola wrote to his nearly 500,000 followers. 'Taking an opportunity while in Rome to do the update of my 30-year-old afib procedure with its inventor, a great Italian doctor — Dr. Andrea Natale! I am well!' According to The Hollywood Reporter, Coppola was treated by renowned cardiologist Dr. Andrea Natale, who has cared for him for over three decades. A source close to the situation said he is now resting comfortably. Atrial fibrillation, commonly referred to as afib, is a condition involving irregular heart rhythm. The American Heart Association notes that treatment options include medication, electrical cardioversion, or surgical intervention to restore normal rhythm. The procedure followed the conclusion of Coppola's six-city U.S. tour promoting his latest film, Megalopolis, in partnership with Live Nation. The final stop took place Friday night at San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts, where the director hosted a screening and Q&A session. During the event, Coppola shared personal reflections with the audience, speaking candidly about aging and the loss of his wife Eleanor in 2024. 'I'm 85,' he said at the time. 'I lost my wife a year ago, around this time. But my attitude for death is that I always lived my life so that when I was at the moment approaching death, I wouldn't say, 'Oh, I wish I had done this and I wish I had done that.' Instead, I say to myself, 'I got to do this.'' Following the tour, Coppola returned to Italy, where he had spent time earlier this summer scouting locations in Calabria for an upcoming film. He told local media that the new project would focus on the beauty of the region rather than its mafia-related reputation. As of Tuesday night, Coppola remains in Rome and is recovering well.

American Eagle defends Sydney Sweeney campaign amid eugenics accusations

American Eagle has addressed the controversy surrounding its fall 2025 campaign featuring Sydney Sweeney, following widespread online backlash and confusion over the tagline 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.' The viral campaign sparked debate after a clip showed Sweeney saying, 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring… My jeans are blue.' The wordplay between 'genes' and 'jeans' ignited accusations online that the ad promoted a subtle racial message or even eugenics. Critics, particularly on TikTok, claimed the combination of Sweeney's blue eyes, blonde hair, and scripted dialogue made the campaign a 'racialized dog whistle.' In response, American Eagle issued a statement on Instagram: 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way.' While some condemned the campaign as tone-deaf, others defended Sweeney and the brand, dismissing the outrage as overblown. 'Y'all are mad at Sydney Sweeney because she's white, she's blonde, she's blue-eyed and she looks good,' said one TikTok user, capturing the divide in public sentiment. Sweeney has not commented publicly. She continues to dominate Hollywood with roles in Euphoria, The White Lotus, and the upcoming Christy, while also expanding her business ventures. Recent endorsements include Armani Beauty, Miu Miu, and a reported lingerie brand backed by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez. Baskin-Robbins, one of her brand partners, has since disabled comments on TikTok videos featuring the actress amid the controversy.
