Paul Gascoigne tells pals 'i'm fine' in message from hospital after collapse

The Rangers legend's pals have revealed how he is following a collapse at home. Paul Gascoigne sent a reassuring message to loved ones from his hospital bed today after he collapsed at home. He told a pal: "I'm fine" after he was rushed into intensive care at the weekend. ‌ The 58-year-old Rangers legend was discovered semi-conscious at home on Friday evening. He was taken to a hospital near his home in Poole, Dorset after his collapse. ‌ But Gazza has told pals that he is feeling better. He was expected to remain in hospital for treatment for several days but may be allowed to leave earlier than expected. "He has told friends that he is fine and was going to give an update later today," said a source close to the star told the Mirror: "He has been doing well recently so this was an unexpected setback. ‌ He had a full three months without alcohol over the summer while he was doing various speaking engagements and looked really well." In a candid chat with the Mirror last year, Gazza discussed his ongoing struggle with alcohol and acknowledged occasional lapses, reports the Mirror. The incident on Friday occurred when Gazza's friend Steve Foster, also known as 'Fozzie', discovered him in a poor state at his house. Mr Foster, who doubles as Gazza's driver and personal assistant, promptly drove the ex-footballer to the hospital after finding him in his bedroom. Speaking last night, Mr Foster stated: "Paul is in hospital, which is the best possible place for him to be right now." ‌ Gazza's stepdaughter Bianca, who is a reality TV star, his two sisters Lindsay and Anna, and former footballer friends Peter Beardsley, Chris Waddle, Paul Merson and Vinnie Jones are believed to be closely monitoring his health. Regarded as one of the finest midfield maestros of his era, England legend Gascoigne holds a special place in the hearts of fans. He earned 57 caps and netted ten goals for England between 1988 and 1998. ‌ Having risen through the youth ranks at his hometown club Newcastle United, he made his first-team debut for the Magpies in April 1985. He found the back of the net 25 times in 104 appearances for Newcastle before transferring to Spurs. During his stint in north London, he helped Tottenham clinch the FA Cup in 1991 and spent four years with the club before making a move to Lazio. His later career saw him turn out for Rangers, Middlesbrough, Everton and Burnley. ‌ Gascoigne quickly became a fan favourite at Ibrox with his flair and tenacity. In his debut season, Gascoigne was instrumental in securing Rangers' eighth consecutive league title, scoring a memorable hat-trick against Aberdeen to seal the championship. That same season, he was named both PFA Scotland Players' Player of the Year and SFWA Footballer of the Year. Though his time in Glasgow was punctuated by controversy, including high-profile incidents on and off the pitch, Gascoigne's footballing brilliance often overshadowed the chaos. He helped Rangers to two league titles, a Scottish Cup, and a League Cup before departing in 1998. Gazza's most recent health concern follows the closure of his company in early July due to its failure to submit records on time. Companies House declared that the firm has been struck off and dissolved.

Paul Gascoigne 'rushed to intensive care unit' after collapsing at home

Former Rangers star Paul Gascoigne was rushed to intensive care after being found collapsed at his home by a friend. The 58-year-old is now reportedly in a stable condition and recovering. The Ibrox and England legend was discovered in a semi-conscious state by a friend on Friday night at his residence in Poole, Dorset, before being whisked off to an intensive care unit. Gascoigne has since been moved to an acute medical unit, and his close mate Steve Foster has relayed a message from those supporting him. He stated: "[Gazza would] like to thank everyone for the support he's received so far from so many old friends who wish him well and want to see him back to his best". He further added: "Paul is in hospital, which is the best possible place for him to be right now." The football icon, who has grappled with numerous health and personal issues in recent years, made a triumphant return to the pitch in Light Blue during a charity match, where Rangers fans gave him a thunderous reception after he scored, reports the Daily Record. Now, the football hero faces a new challenge off the pitch. Gascoigne, one of England's most talented and unpredictable footballers, left an indelible mark on Scottish football during his tenure with Rangers from 1995 to 1998. Signed from Lazio for £4.3 million, Gascoigne quickly endeared himself to the Ibrox faithful with his skill and determination. In his first season, Gascoigne played a pivotal role in Rangers clinching their eighth consecutive league title, netting an unforgettable hat-trick against Aberdeen to secure the championship. That same season, he was honoured as both PFA Scotland Players' Player of the Year and SFWA Footballer of the Year. Despite his Glasgow tenure being marked by controversy, including notable incidents on and off the pitch, Gascoigne's footballing genius frequently outshone the turmoil. He aided Rangers in winning two league titles, a Scottish Cup, and a League Cup before bidding farewell in 1998.

East Kilbride YM ace Barry Russell relishing EK Thistle rivalry in West of Scotland League

The defender will face his former side as EKYM embark on their WOSFL journey Barry Russell admits he questioned whether he should play on for another season at East Kilbride YM, but admits he is delighted he did as he gets to face former side East Kilbride Thistle in the West of Scotland League this season. ‌ YM were an amateur side until this summer when they were voted into the Fourth Division in the WOSFL, following Lowland League Broomhill folding and opening up a space at the bottom of the Scottish football pyramid. ‌ Now defender Russell - who helped YM win the Caledonian Premier League last term - has penned a one-year deal to stay at YM as they embark on their inaugural season in a setup that has the potential to take them into senior football. ‌ Russell has completed a local hat-trick by playing for YM, Thistle and, of course, East Kilbride FC where he was captain and famously skippered the side against Celtic in the 2016 Scottish Cup tie. Now 36, Russell says he had contemplated hanging up his boots but is now relishing a new challenge with YM and the chance to tackle Thistle, where he played at both ends of his career, starting out there in 2011, coming in on loan from EKFC in 2018 and joining the Jags again in 2022. He said: 'When it came to signing the contract I was thinking: Am I stupid to go another season!? ‌ 'I was 50/50 to keep playing because I keep getting niggling injuries. But I got a good run at things towards the end of last season and managed to get the YM Players' Player of the Year. 'I sat down and spoke to the manager [Graeme Robertson] and he wanted me to stay on, so I was happy to do that. ‌ 'If I manage to stay fit, I should be fine. I have played in this league before and I know what to expect and if I get through this season I'll be happy. 'With EK Thistle in the league I think it will be a good one. I had two spells at Thistle and played under Colin Mitchell, Jimmy Kerr, Alan Paterson and Aaron Connolly, so there's a good bit of history there. ‌ 'I've had a good few folk from Thistle wishing me luck, just not against them! 'You always look for your derbies and I'm really looking forward to that game. Hopefully a derby will get people down to watch it.' YM have actually raided the Jags this summer for their former captain Adam Edgar and Ryan Anderson, amid a new manager coming in at the Showpark. ‌ Stephen Kane has taken the reins there and a complete overhaul of the squad has taken place ahead of the sides facing each other on August 2 at Kirktonholme. Russell added: 'Thistle have got a brand new team this season so I think they will be pretty decent. 'We've got a good team as well with some of the players we've signed so I'm looking forward to it. It should be a tough league as well. ‌ 'It is good for the town to have another team into the West of Scotland League. 'We've taken a couple of their players in Adam Edgar and Ryan Anderson, so they are good players that will strengthen our side and provide good competition. ‌ 'Last season we had a team where the same guys would play but you need to be on your toes now. It is a bit different from the amateur game. 'At this level, when you are in there you need to fight to hold on to your position. 'We've got good young players who will be looking to keep the older ones on their toes.' ‌ YM will be a bit of an unknown quantity to many in the Fourth Division and Russell hopes that can work to their advantage. He said: 'I thought we were outstanding last season. A lot of sides will look at us and just think we are an amateur team but the players we have got have played at a higher level. 'Personally, I think we should be up in the top half of the table. ‌ 'But you don't want to sit in a league and just be comfortable. If anything, I think we'll go for it and see what happens at the end of the season. 'Our aim will be to go and put down a marker. 'Wishaw will be right up there as one of the favourites though. They have a good team and, having just been relegated, they will want to go straight back up.'

Jordan Obita signs new Hibs deal to extend stay at Easter Road

Jordan Obita has signed a new deal at Hibernian to extend his stay at Easter Road for another two years. The 31-year-old left-back put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the club until 2027. Obita moved to Edinburgh from Wycombe Wanderers in the summer of 2023 and has made over 80 appearances in two seasons. He was named 2023/24 Hibs' Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year after his first full campaign. The Uganda international played 42 games last season as he helped David Gray's side finish third in the Premiership. After the new deal was announced on Mondaead Coach David Gray said: 'I'm really pleased we've been able to extend Jordan's stay with us. He's an important part of the squad and has shown real consistency since joining us a couple of years ago. 'Jordan adds flexibility to the backline being able to play at left-wing back and on the left-side of the back three and has attributes that help us defensively and going forward. We look forward to continuing working with him.' Hibernian FC Sporting Director Malky Mackay added: 'We're constantly planning for the future and extending Jordan's contract at this club for a further year is a really positive step. 'Not only has Jordan shown his ability during his time with us, but he also leads by example at HTC and on the pitch every single day. He is a fantastic role model for our younger players and has helped a lot of them settle into the group when coming up from the Academy. 'Jordan has a young family and is really enjoying his time with us, so we're all delighted he will continue his stay with us.'
