A weekend of captivating performances awaits Durban this weekend

A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, founder of the Hare Krishna movement, came to South Africa with a bold message: love of God transcends race, nationality, and social barriers. Make Me Dance This production is a spectacular tribute to A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, the inspiring founder of the Hare Krishna movement. Experience a beautiful fusion of dance, poetry, music and storytelling that celebrates the message of love that knows no barriers. Where: The Playhouse Loft Theatre. When: Saturday at 12pm. Annie The KZN Young Performers Project will light up the stage with their musical production of "Annie". The much-loved Depression-era musical tells the story of Annie, played by Kaitlyn Rex, who is a little girl with big dreams, and her faithful companion, Sandy, a show-stealing golden retriever, Lucy. Directed by Daisy Spencer, the production will see Daniel Mayiza as the billionaire Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks, and his charming secretary, Grace Farrell, played by Chloe Marot. The cast comprises 120 performers, including a double cast of senior primary youngsters performing as orphans. Where: The Playhouse Opera Theatre. When: Currently on until Sunday. Upcoming show Esokuqala This play is set to make waves as it embarks on a three-stop tour across KwaZulu-Natal This production weaves together music, dance, and drama, telling the poignant story of a family of doctors caught in a spiritual conflict between traditional and contemporary belief systems. As they grapple with the ancestral powers that influence their newborn child, "Esokuqala" poses vital questions about spirituality in modern society. Featuring a 25-member cast of both established artists and emerging talent from the region, this performance promises to provoke thought and reflection on faith and family dynamics. Where: The Playhouse Drama Theatre. When: July 19 at 6pm.

The Playhouse Loft Theatre is set to be ablaze with creativity this May, as an impressive line-up of productions takes centre stage. From satirical comedy to a multimedia musical depicting the life of one of history's most enigmatic artists, the theatre promises a month that encapsulates both emotional depth and vibrant entertainment. "My Fellow South Africans" My Fellow South Africans is a satirical take on contemporary South Africa. Kim Blanche Adonis performs this solo piece that combines comedy, singing, poetry and drama through sixty minutes of high energy and focus. "My Fellow South Africans" has resonated with audiences across the board, touching on nerves with which many in our country can identify. Where: Playhouse Loft Theatre. When: May 8 - 9. "Vincent" The life and art of Vincent van Gogh is presented in a dazzling new light. The multimedia musical tells of a complex man with a ruthless drive to create and a deep-seated desire to love and be loved. It shows his search for love, through reimagined versions of popular musical theatre, pop, rock and jazz numbers. Where: Playhouse Loft Theatre. When: May 10. "The King of Broken Things" The production is a journey into the broken heart of a young boy, a journey of discovery through his experiments, projects and creations. Through his love for discarded objects, this production teaches us the importance of reparation and how all things, seen and unseen, can be mended, creating new things from old, where the rehabilitation of things broken and discarded includes people and hearts. Where: Playhouse Loft Theatre. When: May 17.
