Shoppers swap Rolex for watches made from rubbish so good they 'bought two'

Many people buy a watch to commemorate significant life events, be it a landmark birthday, an anniversary or a personal achievement. This was the case for entrepreneur Guy Blaskey, founder of Detrash, who decided to treat himself to a watch after selling his company. After building up the healthy dog food brand Pooch & Mutt to a value of £30m and successfully challenging industry giants like Mars and Nestle, he embarked on a quest for a watch to mark this accomplishment. Despite having a keen interest in watches, Guy hadn't been closely following the watch industry – but what he found took him by surprise. From his experience with consumer goods sold online and in supermarkets, he noticed that the real momentum had shifted towards ethical brands striving to do better. This insight led Guy to establish Detrash, a brand that shows what can be achieved using materials sourced from waste. Their current collection features seven unique watches, each design limited to a run of only 100 pieces. Among these is the Cali – Melting Ice Cap Blue (£375), A striking blue-dialled watch that's not only sustainable but also a 41mm dive watch crafted from 80% recycled steel, featuring an ocean-plastic strap, automatic movement, and 200m water resistance, reports the Express. Other watch options include the Blue Steel (£375), the green-hued Poison Ivy (£375), and the Player One (£375), the latter of which draws inspiration from gaming culture with various emojis and characters incorporated into the design. If these don't suit everyone's taste, customers might consider the Apple Watch Series 10 (£299) from Very, which is the latest model of Apple's smartwatch series. Alternatively, there's the Garmin Instinct 2 Smart Watch (£219) from Argos, boasting 32MB memory, a two-hour charging time and the ability to monitor workouts and running sessions. But the feedback for Detrash watches tends to be exceptionally positive, with one customer saying of Player One watch: "Very pleased, love it. No one would ever know your watch is made from trash unless you told them. Keep making great watches from trash." Another said: "I purchased a Player One and I couldn't be happier with it. There is a nice weight to it (which I didn't expect with it being made of recycled material), the colours really pop and it seems to be really well made. I'm glad I took the plunge." A third happy customer said: "Thanks so much for the Player One. I love it and my daughter has already tried to steal it off me. The Rolex will have to stay in the draw for now. Also thanks Dan for getting it out so quickly to me, much appreciated. Can highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun watch that's different." Not every watch brand will suit everyone and some others had differing opinions, as this buyer said: "I like the watch, it is very cool and stylish, my only comment relates to the strap, I feel this drags down the premium feel of the watch face and its looks. My strap is already slightly fraying at the every end, the yellow strips of cotton look like elastic bands a little. Other than that I am really pleased." While another satisfied shopper said: "I was sceptical of the quality of the watch when I first saw it thinking that for the price and quality it was too good to be true, but, upon receiving the watch my expectations were absolutely blown away." This five-star review says: "When I showed my partner my new watch, she said it's gorgeous, I want one. Luckily I had anticipated and bought two. Strap is super comfy and the watch looks great."

The luxury watches are made from recycled materials and are limited edition. Shoppers have hailed them 'stylish' with one saying they were 'blown away' Many individuals purchase a timepiece to commemorate significant life events, be it a landmark birthday, an anniversary, or a personal triumph. Another option is the Garmin Instinct 2 Smart Watch - Graphite for £219 from Argos which boasts 32MB memory, two hour charging and can monitor workouts and runs. What's the best way to treat a poison ivy rash?

Poison ivy, along with poison oak and poison sumac, has an oily coating called urushiol, which often causes redness, swelling, and severe itching within four to 48 hours after contact with your skin. Eventually, a rash, often with fluid-filled blisters, can emerge in a line or in streaks. If you think you've touched a poisonous plant, scrub your skin with soap and water—ideally within 20 minutes of contact—to help remove the oil and help prevent a rash. (Not everyone develops a rash, but don't wait to find out.) Be sure to wash the clothes you were wearing, too. Residual plant oils can linger on many surfaces until they're washed, and they could cause a reaction if you touch them. If a rash appears, try an oatmeal bath, cool compresses, calamine lotion, or an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream to relieve the itch. Scratching the affected skin won't spread the rash, but try not to; it can lead to further irritation or infection. The rash typically lasts two to three weeks. If home treatments aren't helping, ask your doctor about the possibility of a prescription-strength topical steroid cream. To help avoid a brush with urushiol in the future, learn what these plants look like. Poison ivy and poison oak are vines or bushes with leaves grouped in threes. They may have yellow or green flowers and white, yellowish-green, or amber berries. Poison sumac is a woody shrub with leaves grouped in sets of seven to 13 and arranged in pairs. It may have pale-yellow or cream-coloured berries. Urushiol can also hitchhike on gardening tools and gloves, clothing, shoes—even your pet's fur—and then be transmitted to you by touch. So regularly wash these with soapy water or wipe nonwashable items with rubbing alcohol.

Review – Poison Ivy #35: Blood in the Garden

Poison Ivy #36 cover, via DC Comics. Ray: One of the most impressive things that G. Willow Wilson has done over this extended run is how she's expanded Ivy's world. She's gone from a criminal with a minimal supporting cast to a cosmic antihero with deep ties to the Green, several key friends and frenemies around Gotham, and several lovers and ex-lovers. But now, it's all crashing down. The authorities have captured Killer Croc, her old flame Bella Garten is leading the Order of the Green Knight and perverting her message, and Janet is dying of a mysterious illness. The Gardener is by far the most pressing threat, and Ivy knows she has to confront her directly – but first she seeks out help from Harley, who is busy with her own business in Throatcutter Hill. I'm not quite a fan of the whole open relationship thing Ivy and Harley have going on, but every time they're on screen together it's clear why these two are one of DC's most dynamic couples. Desperate measures. Via DC Comics. And speaking of dynamic, Pamela and Bella are just as interesting – because whatever the two of them have has curdled into hate over the years. Ivy will never forgive Bella for manipulating her and altering her against her will back in the first major story they shared, and Bella resents Ivy for abandoning her and abandoning their cause. The face-off between the two of them almost feels Shakespearean at times, as they try to sort out if there can ever be a partnership between them again – but then Ivy does something truly shocking that pretty much reminds us that she truly is a villain at her core when she needs to be. Wilson has always gone back and forth with just how far Ivy is willing to go, and that ambiguity is part of why this series works so well. Its Ivy is deeply unpredictable, and her enemies truly have something to fear from her. Very interested to see what the next act looks like. To find reviews of all the DC issues, visit DC This Week. ERL SS26 "Poison Ivy" Evokes Dark Academia

ForSS26,Eli Russell Linnetzhas plotted a new storyline titled 'Poison Ivy,' incorporating the power dynamics of American menswear codes into a tale of obsession and self-realization. ERLsituates its all-new Ivy/Prep-inspired styles in a boarding school, following the character Ivy's fixation on infiltrating the exclusive social hierarchy headed by his peer Chirstian — ultimately manifesting in a violent break driven by madness. The collection toys with these twisted and contrasting themes throug the reinterpretation of tailored sillhouettes and elegant styles with edgy finishes and relaxed sensibilities. Staples of prep fashion including relaxed Donegal linen suits, v-neck knitted sweaters, and pleated shorts are cast in a dusty neutral palette — injecting the collection with a gritty undertone. Across the board, fabrics boast a broken-in feel, boosted by faded finishes, distressed details, and brushed fibres. Elsewhere, super short swim trunks and surf nylon tailoring, remind us of ERL's Venice Beach roots. Further, an offbeat energy is brought in with patterns including a bold polka dot found in a neck tie and gloves, striped shirting, and a flamboyant baroque floral top. Arguably, the centrepiece of the range is a blue and white plaid suit, worn with a purple shirt and vest with a pastel striped tie.
