Off-duty NYPD cop Chowdhury Nafees released from the hospital after horrific beating, robbery by masked thugs

The off-duty NYPD cop who was savagely beaten and robbed at knifepoint in the Bronx by two masked brutes was finally released from the hospital Wednesday to raucous applause from his fellow officers. Officer Chowdhury Nafees, who hasn't been identified publicly until now, was discharged from Jacobi Medical Center Wednesday afternoon — four days after the sick attack left him nursing multiple severe facial fractures. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch and scores of other cops gave him a guard of honor as the 27-year-old was escorted from the hospital in a wheelchair. Nafees, who was flanked by his family, could be seen saluting his comrades as he was led to a waiting NYPD vehicle. 'Saluting our injured brother,' the Police Benevolent Association union posted on X alongside video of the hero's exit. 'While he has a long road ahead, he will fight hard to get back to work. In the meantime, we will fight to bring the two individuals responsible for such unspeakable violence against a NYC police officer to justice.' Nafees' discharge came just as the NYPD revealed they had finally nabbed both suspects wanted over the brutal caught-on-camera attack on one of New York's Finest. Wayne Lucas, 22, was taken into custody leaving a house in Richmond, Va., Wednesday, according to police. The suspect was wearing a wig in an unsuccessful bid to hide his identity, law enforcement sources alleged accomplice, Taveon Hargrove, 23, was collared in Virginia on Tuesday. 'Come for one of us and you'll have the full force of the NYPD coming for you,' the police commissioner said Wednesday in the wake of the arrests. The pair are accused of pinning the Nafees to the ground at knifepoint and then stomping on his face on St. Peter's Ave. in Westchester Square early Saturday, cops said. Footage of the saga showed one of two masked goons holding a blade to the cop's neck as the other rifled through the victim's pockets — allegedly making off with his Glock 19 9mm service weapon and a handful of his belongings. Before fleeing, the suspects could be seen pummeling the officer multiple times in the face and booting him in the head.

Two men charged with shooting off-duty cop in leg in Queens carjacking try

Two men have been charged for shooting an off-duty NYPD cop in the leg during an attempted Queens carjacking. Denzel Brown, 29 and Marvin Dankwah, 26 were charged Monday with attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and robbery for the April 27 incident in which the pair confronted a 25-year-old cop on 43rd Ave. and 21st St. in Long Island City at about 6:30 a.m. The officer was grazed in the leg and taken to an area hospital in stable condition, police sources said. The off-duty officer was driving a neon green BMW and had pulled over to call for help just before he was shot, PIX11 News reported. The BMW with the license plate 'SHEEESHH' had a bullet hole in the front windshield of the vehicle following the incident. Brown and Dankwah took off in a gray Nissan Sedan with West Virginia plates but police nabbed them after they ditched their vehicle and took off running near 33rd Ave. and Union St. in Flushing, according to sources and radio transmissions. 'Grateful that our police officer will be OK and suspects are already in custody. But this attack is yet another symptom of the message on our streets, which has emboldened criminals and put cops and all NYers at risk,' the Police Benevolent Association wrote on X at the time of the incident. Brown, who was dressed in a white hoodie with Essentials: Fear of God written on it, and Dankwah were walked out of the 109th precinct in handcuffs Monday afternoon and taken to Queens criminal court to await arraignment. Brown is a level-3 sex offender who served time in state prison for the 2015 rape of a victim under 15 years old. He also has a pending assault case in Manhattan for allegedly slashing someone in the face on March 2 near 125th St. and Lexington Ave., sources said. Dankwah had a previous arrest on April 2 and is facing charges of criminal possession of a forged weapon. He was released on his own recognizance in that incident.

Off-duty NYPD officer suffers graze wound during Sunday morning shooting in Queens, sources say

An off-duty New York City police officer was shot in Queens early Sunday morning and investigators are looking into whether it resulted from a possible attempted robbery, police sources say. The officer was taken to the hospital with a graze wound to the leg. He is expected to be okay. Here what police say happened It's hard to miss the neon green BMW that was seen on surveillance video parked outside of Silvercup Studios in Long Island City. At around 6:30 a.m., a silver Nissan pulled up next to it. Someone then stepped out and started talking to the driver of the BMW. That's when police say a shot was fired, hitting the 25-year-old male BMW driver in the left leg. The BMW was then seen backing up into the car behind it, before speeding off onto the sidewalk. It made its way a little more than a mile down to 21st and 31st Road. The Nissan sped off in another direction. Police say two people were later taken into custody. Sources say investigators are looking into whether it may have been an attempted robbery, but police are still investigating what exactly led up to the shooting. "We didn't know what was going on" Witness Prince Singh, an attendant at Bridge Stop gas station on 21st Street, said he heard a single gunshot. "Yeah, I was scared," Singh said. Ryan Carter was working as a production assistant on a shoot at Silvercup Studios later Sunday morning. "It was kind of crazy seeing the caution tape around this whole area and a ton of police cars. We didn't know what was going on," Carter said. Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry released a statement, saying, in part, "This attack is yet another symptom of the message on our streets, which has emboldened criminals and put cops and all New Yorkers at risk. We need our justice system to step up and help us change that message."
