Volkswagen Polo Edition 50: What's Special? The new Polo Edition 50 gets the special Crystal Blue paint scheme with a metallic finish. There's the '50' 3D badge on the B-pillar with 16-inch 'Coventry' wheels as standard. Buyers also have the option to upgrade to larger 17-inch 'Toroso' wheels. Inside, the special edition gets dark-tinted rear windows, 'Edition 50' lettering on the front sill panel moulding and '50' lettering on the lower steering wheel trim. The cabin sports the '50' lettering on the steering wheel, while there's ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, chrome pedals, heated front seats, and more Furthermore, the Volkswagen Polo Edition 50 gets an optional panoramic sunroof, two-zone climate control, and keyless entry as part of the Plus package. The automaker has added more features as standard on the special edition, including chrome-finished pedals, ambient lighting, a black headliner, heated front seats, a rearview camera, and drive modes. Volkswagen Polo Edition 50: Specifications Powering the Volkswagen Polo Edition 50 is the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that develops 94 bhp and 175 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic. The same motor is also available in a higher state of tune, churning out 114 bhp and 200 Nm of peak torque, paired with only the DSG automatic. The new Volkswagen Polo Edition 50 is priced at 28,200 euros in Germany (approx. ₹ 28 lakh) and is based on the mid-level Style trim. The offering will be produced in limited numbers. Volkswagen Polo a.k.a the baby Golf has turned 50 this year. To celebrate the occasion, the German automaker has introduced a commemorative model called the Polo Edition 50. For the Indian consumers, the introduction of the new edition is more of a reminder than a celebration. A reminder of a hatchback which ceased to exist at dealerships back in 2022. Returning back to the car, the new Polo Edition 50 comes with exterior and interior upgrades compared to the standard version. With all of this, the price of the hatchback has been evaluated by the brand to 28,200 euros in Germany (around Rs 27.88 lakh). Starting with the details of the design, the Volkswagen Polo Edition comes with a crystal Blue exterior paint scheme, while the rest of the design details are the same as the standard model. It also gets dark-tinted rear windows with a 3D '50' badge on the B-pillar signifying its unique nature. This is also an element that separates it from the standard model. Additionally, the hatchback now comes with 16-inch 'Coventry' alloy wheels as a standard feature. The consumers will have the option to upgrade to 17-inch 'Torosa' alloy wheels. Regarding the interior, the Volkswagen Polo Edition 50 maintains the theme with 'Edition 50' badges on the front sill panels, steering wheel trim, and dashboard. The cabin features ambient lighting, a chrome detailing package, heated sports seats, and a multifunction steering wheel wrapped in leather. Furthermore, this version includes a rearview camera system, park and comfort assist, proactive occupant protection, side assist lane change warning, park assist with distance control, and rear traffic alert, all provided as standard features. The Volkswagen Polo Edition 50 comes with three engine configuration options. The entry-level variant is equipped with a 1.0-litre petrol engine that generates 93.87 bhp and is combined with a manual transmission. Two additional engine choices are available, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DSG).

The Polo turns 50 this year. Hardly breaking news. Well, Volkswagen is giving the baby Golf a special edition to mark half a century since the original model, penned by Bertone's Marcello Gandini, came out. It goes on sale today in Germany, but the price tag reminded me just how expensive cars have gotten in Europe in recent years. The Polo Edition 50 starts at €28,200, equivalent to approximately $32,500 at current exchange rates. Sure, it's a generously equipped version with heated front seats and whatnot. However, it's still not a fully loaded configuration. VW charges extra for niceties such as two-zone automatic climate control, keyless functionality, and the panoramic sunroof. More importantly, it's far from being a GTI in terms of power. Photo by: Volkswagen In its most basic form, the special edition makes do with a turbocharged 1.0-liter engine hooked up to a five-speed manual transmission. The three-pot produces just 94 horsepower, but you can upgrade to more potent versions of the 1.0 TSI with up to 114 hp. The slightly more powerful versions can be ordered with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Opting for the DSG increases pricing further. The Edition 50 may cost about as much as a Golf GTI in the United States, but it's not even the most expensive Polo available in Germany. The GTI kicks off at €35,450 (nearly $41,000). Step up to its bigger brother, and VW will charge you €45,710 (almost $53,000) for a Golf GTI . Pricing for the Golf R begins at €55,000 ($63,400), and there's also an R Black Edition for a staggering €59,645 ($69,000). We're not done yet. In the Polo and Golf world, the most expensive model was a German market-only Golf R 333, priced at a whopping €76,410 ($88,000). It was even more expensive than an Audi RS3, but nonetheless, VW sold all 333 cars in just eight minutes. Imagine how successful a five-cylinder Golf R would be with the 2.5 TFSI engine. Cars sold in Europe are generally more expensive compared to the US. The discrepancy largely stems from the value-added tax. VAT is 19% in Germany, but it can be as high as 27% in Hungary. The EU's average standard VAT rate is 21.8%. Aside from VAT, extra local taxes based on emissions result in ridiculous prices for some performance cars. That's why a Honda Civic Type R is over $100,000 in the Netherlands, while a Toyota GR Yaris is also a six-figure car in France . Europeans may have a greater variety of options than Americans when it comes to choosing their next car, but they're paying dearly. Volkswagen has revealed a new Polo Edition 50 to celebrate the popular supermini's half century of existence. Priced from £26,350, it'll be available in what VW calls limited numbers in the UK, with sales kicking off later this month. Unique to the Polo Edition 50 is the Crystal Blue paintwork, further enhanced by 17-inch alloy wheels and unique Edition 50 badges. Uprated LED front and rear lights are also standard fit, helping give the whole car an almost luxurious feel above and beyond the usual found in the supermini class. Equipment has also been upgraded with a panoramic glass roof, dual-zone climate control, a reversing camera and keyless access and starting. Under the bonnet is a single 89bhp three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine option, matched to a five-speed manual transmission. There's no sign of a dual-clutch option, or more powerful powertrains, leading to an unusual combination of a very high equipment list paired with one of the lower-specification engines. Yet while it might be easy to sign this special edition off as a rather thin effort in celebrating 50 years of an iconic model like the Polo, VW has much bigger plans later in the year when its all-electric ID.2, or arrives as the lynchpin for the brand's entire future line up. While the Polo isn't going anywhere quite yet, it'll be the new ID.2 which represents VW's actual celebration of offering an affordable model to buyers wanting the Volkswagen experience, just as the first Polo did 50 years ago. Volkswagen is celebrating five decades of the Polo hatchback with the launch of the new Polo Edition 50. Based on the Polo Style derivative, this celebratory model is enhanced with an extensive range of special equipment including 16" 'Coventry' alloy wheels, dark-tinted rear windows and a unique 3D badge on the B-pillar with the lettering '50". Inside the cabin you will find 'Edition 50" lettering on the front sill panel mouldings and a '50" on the lower steering wheel trim as well as on the front passenger side dashboard. Volkswagen has also upped the standard features ante with the addition of chrome-look pedals, a black headliner, ambient lighting, heated front sport seats, multifunction leather steering wheel, reverse camera, a Discover Media infotainment system with streaming and internet capability, Driving profile selection and a Park and Comfort assist package. The standard chrome package adds shine to the electric mirrors, switches and vents. Available as a cost option, the Plus package adds extra niceties including a large tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof, two-zone automatic air conditioner with extended air filter and the keyless access, keyless locking and starting system with Safelock functionality. Image: Supplied Powering the Polo Edition 50 is a 1.0 l three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine making 70kW and 175Nm of torque. It can be meshed to a five-speed manual or seven-speed DSG transmission. There's also a more potent version of the same engine tuned to deliver 85kW/200Nm. The latter is paired exclusively to the seven-speed DSG gearbox. The new Volkswagen Polo Edition 50 will only be available in European and UK markets.
