Arunachal Assembly Speaker calls for engagement of youth in nation-building

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (APLA) Speaker Tesam Pongte gave a clarion call for the engagement of youth in nation-building. Speaking at a lecture on 'APLA@50 Outreach Connect' to mark the golden jubilee celebrations of the assembly at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) near Itanagar on Monday, Pongte urged the youth to not only safeguard their rights but also fulfil their responsibilities, an official statement said. He underlined the immense value of understanding one's rights and duties as citizens. Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso reflected on the state's developmental trajectory over the decades. He emphasised the transformative progress in road infrastructure and connectivity across the state, noting how these advancements have bridged communities, boosted economic activities, and improved accessibility even in remote regions. Rajiv Gandhi University Faculty of Law dean in-charge Topi Basar spoke at length about the importance of constitutional rights, duties and civic responsibility, urging youth to actively participate in shaping a just and informed society. An aware and responsible citizenry is the bedrock of democracy and progress, she stressed. NERIST Director Prof Narendranath S and APLA additional secretary Agaab Mossang also spoke on the occasion. The event, organised in collaboration with the Rajiv Gandhi University with the support of NERIST, is a tribute to five decades of legislative progress, fostering awareness among the young generation about governance, civic responsibility, and the ongoing journey of Arunachal Pradesh towards holistic development.

Arunachal Assembly Speaker urges youth to uphold democratic ideals

Last Updated: Itanagar, Aug 9 (PTI) Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (APLA) Speaker Tesam Pongte on Saturday urged youth to actively contribute to preserving and strengthening democratic ideals. He recounted India's journey to democracy and the role of the Constitution in making the country a beacon of democratic principles. Speaking at the lecture of the APLA@50 outreach connect at Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) at Naharlagun, near here, he said Arunachal Pradesh has embraced democracy, and young doctors could contribute by serving in every part of the state. Pongte added that by doing so, they would fulfill their duties and could also consider joining various administrative services to provide their expertise as medical practitioners, an official statement said here. The event was part of the golden jubilee celebrations of APLA aimed at promoting civic awareness and active citizenship. The programme brought together dignitaries, faculty, students, and officials to foster awareness about India's democratic ethos and constitutional values. TRIHMS dean and principal Dr Shyamal Kumar Bhattacharya, in his address, stressed the importance of youth engagement with the constitutional framework, while Deputy Speaker Nyigyor underlined the need to instil in students a sense of duty alongside their rights. He urged youth to play a meaningful role in upholding democratic values. APLA joint secretary Khangshung Jugli lauded the insightful addresses and reaffirmed the assembly's commitment to youth engagement through such initiatives.
