Ellen DeGeneres suffers heartbreaking loss after leaving Hollywood

Ellen DeGeneres recently suffered a heartbreaking loss after fleeing Hollywood for a quieter life in the English countryside following her toxic workplace scandal. Last week, the former talk show host, 67, revealed on Instagram that her and her wife Portia de Rossi's beloved rescue dog Augie recently died. DeGeneres rescued the pooch more than a decade ago and he was one of three dogs owned by the celebrity couple, who have been married since 2008. 'We had to say goodbye to Augie yesterday,' DeGeneres — who recently debuted a new look — announced on Friday, May 16. 'We rescued him 12 years ago and he was so grateful. He gave us so much love. He will be missed. There will never be another like him.' Along with her heartfelt words, DeGeneres shared a slideshow of photos of Augie, a Beagle-Chihuahua mix, taken through the years. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Several of the snaps showed the tiny dog cuddling with Portia or sunning outside at the sprawling $32 million Montecito mansion that DeGeneres offloaded in 2024. Days later, DeGeneres returned to Instagram to thank her 136million followers for their 'kind messages.' She also uploaded a never before seen video of herself and Portia with Augie that was recorded just weeks before his death. The video showed the senior dog sleeping peacefully in Portia's lap as DeGeneres spoke about her skincare line, Kind Science By Ellen. 'Thank you for all of your kind messages about Augie,' the star wrote. 'We filmed this last month and planned to post it today. 'I don't care what Portia says, please don't call me the Deal Queen. We love you, Augie.' Portia has yet to publicly comment on Augie's death but the Arrested Development star, 52, is not active on social media like DeGeneres. The couple, who do not have children together, have been proud dog parents for many years. 'We had to say goodbye to Augie yesterday,' DeGeneres announced on Friday, May 16 DeGeneres rescued the pooch more than a decade ago and he was one of three dogs owned by the celebrity couple Along with Augie, they own a Poodle-Maltese mix named Kid and a purebred Poodle named Mrs. Wallis Browning. Back in 2023, DeGeneres shared photos of Augie, Kid and Mrs. Wallis Browning in honor of National Pet Day. She captioned the post: 'Happy #NationalPetDay to this crew,' and added a heart emoji. Along with their dogs, DeGeneres and her actress wife also have two tuxedo cats named George and Chairman. Back in 2020, their pet brood became smaller following the loss of both Charlie the cat and Wolf the dog. DeGeneres is a well-known animal lover and even has a line of pet toys, beds, dresses, tees, tank tops, and sweatshirts called ED by Ellen DeGeneres. However it appears the line, which was sold at PetSmart, is no longer in production. DeGeneres' recent family tragedy comes two weeks after she shocked fans by debuting a brand new hairstyle — after decades of rocking a blonde pixie cut. She did so by sharing footage of herself mowing the grass at her and Portia's new home in the English country side. In the clip, DeGeneres sat on top of a yellow mower and revealed that she has ditched her signature blonde locks for a brunette shade. The star could be seen steering the mower through a large field as a layer of gray clouds filled the sky. Text was added towards the bottom of the reel which read, 'How it started.' The video then cut to Ellen being assisted by an individual after the machine seemingly broke down on a steep hill. The clip concluded as more text popped up onto the screen which said, 'How it ended.' The comedian also penned in the caption: 'Portia thought it would be fun to film my first time on the mower. She was right.' The couple moved to the U.K. following Donald Trump's presidential win late last year in November. They were recently forced to relocate to a different property near Oxfordshire after their Cotswolds home suffered severe flooding shortly after moving in. DeGeneres previously gave fans a rare look at her new life in England to her 136 million followers. Last month in April, she snapped a photo while standing behind Portia as they looked out at the scenic view of the countryside and a double rainbow following a rainfall. '3 things that make me happy: My Wife A Rainbow And my wife taking a photograph of a Rainbow,' she wrote. Back in 2020, DeGeneres was embroiled in controversy after being accused of creating a toxic work environment - and later issued an apology. After nearly two decades of being on the air, The Ellen Degeneres Show also came to an end just two years later in 2022. She previously told The Hollywood Reporter, 'I have to just trust that whatever happened during that time, which was obviously very, very difficult, happened for a reason. 'I think that I learned a lot, and there were some things that came up that I was shocked and surprised by. It was eye-opening, but I just trust that that had to happen.' She stepped in front of the camera once again for her 2024 Netflix special titled Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval. However upon its release, the project garnered mainly mixed to negative reviews and garnered a score of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes. A few months earlier in March of this year, Ellen took the big step of listing her Montecito property for $4,995,000. Less than two weeks later, the star's home sold for over the asking price at $5.2 million. People reported at the time that the two-bedroom, two-bathroom abode quickly went into escrow after receiving 'multiple offers within two days of hitting the market.' And back in January, Ellen and Portia had put an additional Montecito property on the market for $29.9 million. The couple opted to move into an $18 million house in the Cotswolds area in the U.K. late last year. The reason the pair chose to relocate to the British countryside rather than Portia's home country of Australia was soon revealed. A source explained to New Idea, 'Ellen wants to continue with her comedy work, and there is a huge scene in Britain. 'Sitting back and chilling on a beach in Australia is for when she's ready to retire and Ellen's not there yet.' But after the move, their six-bedroom Cotswolds home was met with severe flooding due to Storm Bert. An insider informed MailOnline, 'Ellen and Portia have had several issues with the place they initially moved into. 'First there was the flooding, of course, then there was an issue with some locals complaining about some building work carried out at the property.' DeGeneres and Portia have since moved to a different property which is only a 30 minute drive from the original home that they had bought. A source recently told 'The house is a real Grand Designs number - and it's plain that Ellen and Portia are loving it.' They added, 'Everything has been done very discreetly so it's not clear what the terms of the deal was but it seems that it has recently changed hands for not much less than they paid for their previous place. 'To buy two properties for eight figure sums in the space of a few months really is unusual, even given the many multi-millionaires around here.' The source continued, 'And at even a conservative estimate it must have cost Ellen hundreds of thousands of pounds in fees and costs to change her mind so dramatically - perhaps millions.'

Ellen DeGeneres is brutally roasted by Seth MacFarlane over alleged 'mean' behavior

Ellen DeGeneres ' 'mean' reputation became the target of Seth MacFarlane 's jabs at Robin Hood's annual charity gala at the Javits Center on Monday. The Family Guy creator, 51, roasted a number of stars at the event, including DeGeneres, 67, whose talk show was canceled in 2022, following a toxic workplace scandal that tarnished her reputation as TV's favorite host. Taking a dig at DeGeneres, MacFarlane joked about her leaving the United States for Europe after President Donald Trump won office, according to Page Six. He quipped that DeGeneres 'left right after the election, and now she's the nicest person in France.' Following the election last year, DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, 52, relocated to the UK. During a stand-up show last year, DeGeneres addressed the claims of her being mean, explaining, 'I can be demanding and impatient and tough. I am a strong woman. I am many things, but I am not mean.' The Family Guy creator roasted a number of stars, including DeGeneres, whose talk show was canceled in 2022, following a toxic workplace scandal; he is seen in 2023 DeGeneres' scandal was sparked by a single tweet penned by comedian Kevin T. Porter in March 2020 asking people for the 'most insane stories you've heard about Ellen being mean,' which amassed 2,600 replies. Four months later, BuzzFeed News published an exposé featuring one current and 10 former employees of the Louisiana-born funnywoman's former self-titled daytime talk show alleging racism, workplace bullying, and sexual harassment. By August 2020, WarnerMedia had launched an internal investigation, Ellen had issued a formal apology to her 255 employees, and executive producers Ed Glavin, Kevin Leman, and Jonathan Norman were all fired from the show. DeGeneres - who also apologized to fans on air - broadcast her final episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show on May 26, 2022 after 19 seasons. She later branded it a 'coordinated misogynistic' attack on her. Ellen and Portia seem to have settled into their new home, and recently shared snippets of their day-to-day life on the farm, after moving to the English countryside. The pair relocated to a different property near Oxfordshire after their Cotswolds home suffered severe flooding shortly after moving in. Last month in April, she snapped a photo while standing behind Portia as they looked out at the scenic view of the countryside and a double rainbow following a rainfall. '3 things that make me happy: My Wife A Rainbow And my wife taking a photograph of a Rainbow,' she wrote. The couple - who tied the knot in 2008 - opted to move into an $18 million house in the Cotswolds area in the U.K. late last year. The reason the pair chose to relocate to the British countryside rather than Portia's home country of Australia was soon revealed. A source explained to New Idea, 'Ellen wants to continue with her comedy work, and there is a huge scene in Britain. 'Sitting back and chilling on a beach in Australia is for when she's ready to retire and Ellen's not there yet.' Meanwhile, elsewhere during his set, Seth took aim at country star Keith Urban, who performed several songs at the event. MacFarlane quipped that he had to occupy ten minutes of airtime while the crew 'sweep Keith Urban's coke off the stage.' Urban has publicly spoken about his past addiction issues and his two stays in rehab. MacFarlane — whose estimated net worth is around $300 million — also joked that he was 'the poorest guy here' as he performed in a room full of Wall Street and tech magnates, including Michael Bloomberg, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and philanthropist Laurie M. Tisch. The Weeknd concluded the show with a performance that lasted an hour. The Robin Hood Foundation raised more than $72 million to combat poverty in New York City.

Ellen DeGeneres takes $47m US home off market amid UK move

Ellen DeGeneres has taken one of her last remaining US properties off the market just months after she and wife Portia de Rossi relocated to the UK. The comedian, who is currently living in an $US18 million ($A28 million) farmhouse in the Cotswolds, about two hours outside of London, listed the sprawling house for sale in January with an asking price of $US29.99 million ($A47.8 million). It was the second time that the funnywoman had attempted to offload the estate and was originally put on the market in March 2024 with a much higher asking price of $US33.9 million ($A53.9 million), Realtor reports. However, after going three months without finding a buyer, the home was delisted — only to appear again with a discounted price less than a year later. It's believed that the property is one of the last remaining homes DeGeneres and de Rossi currently own in the US. RELATED: 'Get the hell out': Ellen's sad goodbye 'Toxic' Ellen's final $8m insult to US exposed Ellen DeGeneres' $6m loss in Trump flee fail The couple have been selling several properties over the past year since moving to the British countryside. The duo recently sold a two-bedroom in Montecito for $US5.2 million ($A8.2 million), more than $US200,000 ($A312,000) over its $US4.995 million ($A7.9 million) asking price. The property flew off the market less than two weeks after it was listed in March this year, around four months after DeGeneres and de Rossi moved to the UK. However, the success they had with that home has not translated to the Neutra property, which sat on the market for 109 days before its listing was removed. A sale would mark only the fourth time the property has changed hands since it was built in 1955 by famous Austrian-American architect Richard Neutra, having been owned by the same family for 40 years until finally being sold for the first time in 1994. That owner, who purchased the modernist home for the bargain price of just $US1.42 million, held onto the property for a further 25 years before putting it on the market in 2019, when it sold for $US20 million. Three years later, DeGeneres and de Rossi added the five-bedroom pad to their already-impressive property portfolio, paying out $US29 million for the dwelling. They have since renovated the home extensively, helping to restore Neutra's 'pioneering vision,' while also adding a host of modern-day amenities. Per the listing description, the home, which is widely known as 'The Brown House,' has plenty to offer a potential buyer, not least the architectural caché that comes from owning a Neutra design. 'Originally crafted in 1955 by the renowned Richard Neutra, [the house] stands as a quintessential architectural masterpiece nestled in the prestigious enclave of Bel Air,' the listing states. 'One of the most iconic homes to be built, it has undergone a meticulous restoration, thoughtfully revering Neutra's pioneering vision while integrating modern luxuries. A true encapsulation of living in a work of art.' The home also offers sweeping views of the Los Angeles skyline, as well as two 'state-of-the-art' kitchens and a sizeable living area. 'This is a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of architectural heritage, offering a lifestyle marked by grandeur and exclusivity in one of the most coveted locations,' the listing concludes. Their struggle to find a buyer for the property has not held the couple back from investing in new real estate in the UK, where they are understood to have snapped up an $US18 million ($A28 million) farmhouse in 2024, according to People magazine. Since then, the couple — who made a second career out of flipping homes in and around California while they were living in Montecito — have been carrying out extensive renovations to the abode, which have landed them in some hot water with their neighbours. According to the Daily Mail, DeGeneres found herself 'in peril of getting on the wrong side' of a high-profile member of her new neighbourhood after she 'committed a 'technical breach'' during the build of a single-story extension at her new home. The outlet described it as a 'planning clash.' Several neighbours voiced their objections to the couple's plans. Despite the protests, a spokesperson for West Oxfordshire Direct Council insisted that the work was 'completed to a high standard,' according to the New York Post. 'The works at the property involved a single-story extension and garden landscaping,' the spokesperson said. 'Although the extension technically breached permitted development rights, it was considered acceptable in planning terms. 'As the works were completed to a high standard with no impact on surrounding amenities or other planning concerns, no further enforcement action was necessary, and the case has been closed.' Ellen DeGeneres shares a look at her life in the country

Ellen DeGeneres looks to be enjoying life in the English countryside. The former daytime talk-show host recently shared with her social media followers how different both she and her view look these days. In a video posted on her verified Instagram account, a now brunette DeGeneres is seen riding a lawnmower on her British estate. The comedian shared the video in the form of the popular 'How it started…how it's going' trend. The footage start with her riding the mower and ends with her needing to be pushed when the machine breaks down. 'Portia thought it would be fun to film my first time on the mower,' the caption reads. 'She was right.' The actress Portia de Rossi has been married to DeGeneres since 2008. DeGeneres and de Rossi reportedly moved to the United Kingdom in November 2024. The move came more than two years after 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' finished its run in 2022. The show wrapped two years after a controversy involving former staff members, who alleged they faced intimidation and racism while working on the popular daytime show. DeGeneres issued an apology to her staff in July 2020. 'On day one of our show, I told everyone in our first meeting that 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' would be a place of happiness – no one would ever raise their voice, and everyone would be treated with respect,' DeGeneres said then. 'Obviously, something changed, and I am disappointed to learn that this has not been the case. And for that, I am sorry. Anyone who knows me knows it's the opposite of what I believe and what I hoped for our show.' She joked about the situation in her Netflix comedy special, 'Ellen's Last Stand…Up.' 'Let me catch you up on what's been going on with me since you last saw me,' she said. 'I got chickens. Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean.'
