Ellen DeGeneres mocked over 'monstrosity' home in UK after melodramatic move to avoid Trump

Ellen DeGeneres has been mercilessly mocked over her new-build home in the English countryside, with furious Brits labelling the mansion a 'monstrosity'. The former talk show host and her partner Portia De Rossi, 52, moved into the hilltop home in Oxfordshire less than a year after swapping the US for the UK to avoid living under the Trump administration. The couple is thought to have moved into the modern home following a series of disasters including flooding at their previous abode, a $20 million (£15 million) Cotswolds farmhouse, which DeGeneres said is now on the market. But the 'beautiful, old' stone farmhouse is a far cry from the glass-fronted house the couple now calls home - with pictures of the couple's new house dividing opinion. Steve Loftus, a businessman and utility industry expert, described the futuristic home as 'a concrete and glass monstrosity.' Other X users likened the house to a 'remodeled community college', a 'factory' and a 'water treatment plant in Arizona circa 1976.' 'The inside of Ellen DeGeneres' home in the Cotswolds is totally devoid of any personality,' said another person, who added: 'It looks like a prison.' The sprawling single-storey house was built by a UK-based developer which described by it as an attempt to 'redefine rural modern living'. 'The inside of Ellen DeGeneres' home in the Cotswolds is totally devoid of any personality,' said one internet critic The couple is thought to have moved into the modern home following a series of disasters including flooding at their previous home The architect specializes in restoring industrial buildings, with the property unrecognizable from the ramshackle farmyard which previously stood on the site. The farmhouse stood empty for many years before it was finally sold as a derelict building only fit for redevelopment to the developer for almost £2million. Planning permission was granted to demolish the farmhouse and erect a 'replacement dwelling' and for the surrounding site to be landscaped. The cost of the home is unknown but reports suggest the TV personality could have bought it for anywhere between $20 million and $27 million. It is made up of five bedrooms and is built around a Japanese style courtyard garden in the centre. Pictures of the interior show a double height living room with exposed beams and minimalistic stone and wooden furnishings. The hilltop position and huge glass windows mean it boats panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. For privacy, the home is said to be set in 100 acres of unspoiled grounds, which the couple have used to keep their small flock of sheep and chickens. It is about a 30-minute drive from their original home and planning documents show it has a 'sustainable drainage system' and is not 'at risk of flooding'. DeGeneres and her wife moved to the Cotswolds last year in the hope that it would be the perfect place to avoid living under the Trump administration A Cotswolds property expert previously told the Mail that 'It's plain that Ellen and Portia love [the house]. 'Everything has been done very discreetly so it's not clear what the terms of the deal was but it seems that it has recently changed hands for not much less than they paid for their previous place. 'To buy two properties for eight figure sums in the space of a few months really is unusual, even given the many multi-millionaires around here.' Vice President JD Vance is set to travel to the idyllic rural area DeGeneres calls home next month, alongside his wife Usha, 39, and their three children next month. The news of his holiday is unlikely to go down well with DeGeneres, who revealed only last week that she had decided to stay in the UK 'for good' because of Trump's re-election. DeGeneres yesterday told an audience pf 700 fans in the Cotswolds that life is 'just better' in the UK and the US election outcome swayed her decision to move. 'We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, "He got in" - and we're like, "We're staying here".' The couple had initially planned to spend a few months a year in the UK, buying and moving into what DeGeneres called a 'part-time house' in November 2024 before deciding to stay. DeGeneres is a well-known collector of 'multi-million dollar homes', according to People, including a $32 million (£24 million) property in Montecito where Prince Harry and Meghan live. In 2023, she revealed that she had bought and sold 'over 50 houses' including one property in Malibu which was previously owned by Brad Pitt. Earlier this year, it was reported that she had put two homes in Montecito on the market which are thought to be among her last remaining properties in California.

I moved to the UK because of Trump, Ellen DeGeneres says

Ellen DeGeneres has revealed she relocated to the UK because Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election. The comedian and presenter, 67, relocated from California to the Cotswolds with her wife Portia de Rossi, 52, in November. While there had been speculation the move was in response to Mr Trump's re-election, it is the first time the star has publicly confirmed the motivation behind the change. Asked whether reports that she moved because of Mr Trump were correct, DeGeneres said 'yes'. Speaking to Richard Bacon in Cheltenham on Sunday, DeGeneres said she and her wife had bought a 'part-time house' and had intended to spend up to four months a year in the UK, but that changed following the election. 'We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in',' she said, the BBC reported. She added: 'And we're like, 'We're staying here'.' A string of left-wing stars have fled the US following Mr Trump's re-election. Courtney Love, who has lived in the UK for several years, said she had applied to become a British citizen in light of Mr Trump's presidency. Actress Rosie O'Donnell left America for Ireland saying she will consider returning 'when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there'. Last week Mr Trump threatened to s trip the actress and comedian of her American citizenship, labelling her a 'threat to humanity' after she criticised his response to the Texas floods. Speaking on Sunday, DeGeneres said life 'is just better' in the UK and she and her wife were considering getting remarried amid ongoing concerns gay marriage is under threat in the US. 'It's absolutely beautiful,' DeGeneres said of the UK. 'We're just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture - everything you see is charming and it's just a simpler way of life. 'It's clean. Everything here is just better - the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here. 'We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.' DeGeneres, who came out as gay in 1997, said some stars have not come out about their sexuality because 'it's still a problem' and 'people are still scared.' The star also spoke of the Southern Baptist Convention endorsing the reversal of a Supreme Court case allowing same-sex marriage. 'The Baptist Church in America is trying to reverse gay marriage,' she said. 'They're trying to literally stop it from happening in the future and possibly reverse it. Portia and I are already looking into it, and if they do that, we're going to get married here.' She added: 'I wish we were at a place where it was not scary for people to be who they are. I wish that we lived in a society where everybody could accept other people and their differences. 'So until we're there, I think there's a hard place to say we have huge progress.'

Ellen DeGeneres' Talk Show Demeanor Toward Female Comedians Raises Eyebrows

It's been three years since The Ellen DeGeneres Show aired its last episode, but the controversy surrounding Ellen DeGeneres continues. The 67-year-old comedian is now retired and living in the U.K. with her wife, Portia de Rossi, but she's still being called out by her peers for her reported less-than-kind behavior on her talk show. The latest celebrity to step up to the plate is comedian Margaret Cho. More from SheKnows Ellen DeGeneres & Portia de Rossi Are Clearly Embracing This Type of Lifestyle Amid Controversial UK Move On the June 18 episode of The Kelly Mantle Show, Cho described DeGeneres as 'really weird' and 'not nice' to her for the majority of her career. 'I opened for her in the 1980s, when she was a headliner in comedy clubs. Later, when I would do her talk show in the 2000s, she would act like we just met,' Cho explained. 'And I'm like, 'Bitch, what?' That's weird. We go way back. It's so creepy and weird.' It may just sound like sour grapes between two performers, but this isn't the first time DeGeneres has been taken to task by other female comedians. Rosie O'Donnell famously shared with The Hollywood Reporter how they went from a 'good relationship' to DeGeneres' out-of-left-field comment about her on Larry King Live in 1998. 'I don't know Rosie. We're not friends,' DeGeneres told the late talk show host. DeGeneres never invited O'Donnell on her daytime show, and it took until 2023 for her to receive an apology via text. O'Donnell shared with the media outlet, 'She wrote, 'I'm really sorry and I don't remember that.' I guess she saw me talk about it on Andy Cohen's show [Watch What Happens Live]. I remembered it so well; I had T-shirts printed and I gave them to my staff that said 'I don't know Rosie. We're not friends.' I have a picture of her holding [my then-infant son] Parker. I know her mother. I could identify her brother without her in the room. I knew her for so many years. It just felt like I don't trust this person to be in my world.' If that wasn't evidence enough of DeGeneres' alleged problem with other women in her field, Kathy Griffin has been open about her almost 30-year feud with the retired comedian. They got off on the wrong foot when Griffin guest starred on her sitcom, Ellen, in 1996 and their friendship never recovered. 'I have a loathing for her that is epic,' Griffin said on April 1 on her YouTube channel. 'I know a lot of it is jealousy. I get it. She's way more successful than I'll ever be. You're welcome, Ellen. That's way nicer than anything you've ever said about me or ever will.' DeGeneres addressed her reputation in her 2024 Netflix special, Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval. 'Yeah, the 'be kind' girl wasn't kind, that was the headline,' she said. 'Here's the problem: I'm a comedian who got a talk show and I ended the show every day by saying, 'Be kind to one another.' Had I ended my show by saying, 'Go f—k yourselves,' people would've been pleasantly surprised to find out I'm kind.'Best of SheKnows 23 Age-Gap Couples Who Met When One of Them Was Still a Child Everything to Know About Leonardo DiCaprio's 27-Year-Old GF Vittoria Ceretti A Look Back at Prince William's Sexiest Photos in Celebration of the Future King

Ellen DeGeneres Shares Glimpse Inside Stunning $18 Million U.K. Farmhouse—While Showing Off Her Unique New Pets

has revealed a rare look inside her $18 million retreat in the British countryside—while revealing that she and wife Portia de Rossi are now sharing the space with some fuzzy new friends: their 'house sheep.' DeGeneres, 67, and de Rossi, 52, relocated abroad at the end of 2024 and began a new life together in the British countryside. They reportedly snapped up a historic property in the Cotswolds, which they are in the process of overhauling and extending. Their choice of home has come with its fair share of new experiences, including the maintenance of the farmland that surrounds it, which DeGeneres has approached with gusto. Now, it seems that they are happily embracing the adventures of a more rural lifestyle, particularly the wildlife. DeGeneres captured one of these special experiences in a video shared on Instagram. It revealed the moment a flock of sheep strolled into their living room and proceeded to make themselves very comfortable, even climbing onto the furniture. 'We have house sheep,' she wrote across the funny video. The clip began showing four newly sheared sheep strolling in through an operable glass wall, which was opened up to the great outdoors. A gravel driveway and lush landscaping are seen in the background. One of the sheep then approaches the couple's dog, Kid, who jumped out of his bed at the sight of the farm creatures. 'They're coming inside?' de Rossi can be heard asking her spouse in the video. 'Yeah, they're inside,' DeGeneres replied. The comedian captioned the video, 'Our sheep keep coming inside. To be fair, we do have a piece of furniture that looks like a sheep, but that one doesn't try to eat our rugs.' In another video, DeGeneres filmed the sheep from the farmland surrounding her property, revealing that she and de Rossi are enjoying their peaceful life abroad. The glimpse inside her property comes after renovations on the property caused a bit of a 'clash' with their neighbors. However, the pair's new home gave them a chance to pursue one of their favorite hobbies: renovating homes. 'It's a chance to relive the greatest moments of their marriage,' an unnamed source told In Touch of the impact the project has had on the couple. 'Picking out linens and flooring and faucets, doing renovations, working with architects and decorators. 'This is the stuff that they live for, not being famous or pleasing audiences.' The insider added that DeGeneres and de Rossi view the farmhouse as a 'fresh canvas' that they can 'work on together' to turn it into their dream home. Meanwhile, a separate source told the outlet that the couple have also found joy in taking care of animals and even donated to local wildlife sanctuaries. 'They both feel incredibly called to help all kinds of animals. The gorillas have had a special spot in their hearts, but if they could, they'd help all the animals,' the insider said. The source noted that while DeGeneres has plenty of things she can do with her reported $500 million net worth, she is choosing to use it for good. 'Ellen has enough money to last several lifetimes, [but] she wants to put it to use to make a positive difference,' the insider added. DeGeneres and de Rossi, although more famous for their on-screen work, have cultivated a lucrative side hustle as real estate moguls. Over the past 15 years, they've bought and sold more than a dozen homes in California, often for a hefty profit. In 2011, DeGeneres and de Rossi opened up about their burgeoning real estate empire in an interview with Architectural Digest. In it, they joked about how the comedian's homebuying habits had quickly spiraled after she snapped up her first home. DeGeneres' first home was a Spanish bungalow in West Hollywood, CA, which she fixed up and then sold. During that process, she told AD, she realized if she could 'make some improvements,' she could make a profit. The couple haven't been shy about showing off their life in the U.K., having previously taken to social media to reveal that they were soaking up every ounce of moving bliss they could. The former TV show host took to Instagram to show off a stunning photo of de Rossi in front of a double rainbow that appeared above their Cotswolds estate, which is about two hours from London. The flick gave fans a glimpse of the couple's lush landscaping and stone-paved pathway. '3 things that make me happy, my Wife. A Rainbow. And my wife taking a photograph of a Rainbow,' DeGeneres wrote in the caption. Fans gushed over DeGeneres and de Rossi's love for each other. 'Nothing tops this, love, light, and a rainbow,' wrote one fan. Another added, 'Aw how lovely, I hope you are settling into the U.K.' Just one month ago, the TV personality sold one of her last Los Angeles–area homes for more than $200,000 over its asking price—just 10 days after listing it. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom Montecito, CA, property was sold for $4.99 million on March 10. It is the latest indication that DeGeneres and de Rossi are committed to their new life in the U.K., despite multiple reports suggesting that the move has not been without its difficulties. According to one report from London-based newspaper the Daily Mail, DeGeneres quickly found herself 'in peril of getting on the wrong side' of a high-profile member of her new neighborhood after she 'committed a 'technical breach'' during the build of a single-story extension at her new abode in what the outlet described as a 'planning clash.' The former TV host and her wife are understood to have purchased the home in June, five months before news of their relocation plans were revealed. However, their fresh start across the pond was dampened somewhat after three local councilors raised concerns that DeGeneres and de Rossi's extension might 'increase flood risk in the village' and 'disturb Roman remains.' DeGeneres and de Rossi are reported to have received several objections from their neighbors. Their issues are understood to have prompted DeGeneres and de Rossi to set their sights on a new 10,000-square-foot mansion, which they are already said to have 'looked at several times.' Ellen DeGeneres' life after being ditched by Hollywood exposed in new video

Ellen DeGeneres is giving fans a glimpse inside her home in the English countryside. In an Instagram post shared on Monday, the 67-year-old former talk-show host shared videos of the inside of her home, which she shares with her wife, Portia de Rossi, after their sheep found their way inside. 'Our sheep keep coming inside,' she wrote in the caption. 'To be fair, we do have a piece of furniture that looks like a sheep, but that one doesn't try to eat our rugs.' In the first clip, the sheep can be seen coming inside via a floor-to-ceiling glass sliding door which had been left open. The view from the room featured a gravel courtyard with big bushes and trees, with a grass field visible in the background. In the clip, the sheep can be seen getting a bit too close to the couple's dog, Kid, who leapt from his bed and quickly ran away from the flock of sheep. De Rossi can be heard in the background asking, 'They're coming inside?' to which DeGeneres responded, 'Yeah, they're inside.' A second clip was shot in a different part of the home, which also has floor-to-ceiling glass siding doors and large cement-style slab flooring. De Rossi can be heard in the video gently encouraging the sheep to go back outside, and praising one as it listens to her. The couple moved to the Cotswolds in England in November 2024, after selling their home in Montecito, California in August of that year. A second home owned by the couple in the idyllic Santa Barbara town was later sold in 2025. 'Ellen was in England house hunting in the beginning of October,' an insider told People in November 2024. 'She ended up finding a house that she loved and purchased it shortly after.' Not long after moving into the home, DeGeneres shared a clip on Instagram, humorously hinting she isn't cut out for a specific household chore. She posted a video of herself attempting to mow the grass surrounding her home in the countryside. The video began with the talk-show host successfully mowing a small section of grass, with the words 'how it started' written on the screen. It progressed to a video of DeGeneres struggling to drive the lawnmower uphill, as someone had to help her by pushing the mower from behind. The on-screen caption then changed to 'How it ended.' 'Portia thought it would be fun to film my first time on the mower,' DeGeneres wrote in the caption. 'She was right.'
